Reds

Nats calling up their 2023 #1 draft pick Dylan Crews. Reds need to be doing the same this year with Lowder.

Season is over, so not at this stage unless he's on a strict pitch count. A few starts at most then shut him down and get ready for spring training.

The point of calling him up is not in an effort to salvage a lost season, but to get a jump start on the 2025 season with some experience at this level. Plus, the Reds are lacking healthy arms and are going to be limping towards the finish at this rate. The Reds do not need any excuse to start his 2025 season in Louisville by keeping him in AAA the rest of 2024 with a month to go in International League play. That would be dumb. If called up, I'm sure his work load would be limited. If Paul Skenes can finish out the 2024 season as a 2023 draft pick too, so can Lowder. When a season is over, may as well make the most of it by building for the future and develop your young players.

Like what I have seen from Julian Aguiar in his first two starts.
Casey Kelly was outstanding in his return to MLB too. Pitched 3 perfect innings for a save. Reds really needed these pitching performances with the way the starting rotation has been impacted by injuries and the bullpen usage of late.

What's Lowder's innings cap this year? he's already somewhere in the 102-110 range. granted he's looking solid, but have to think he hits a wall at some point.

7.5 games out of the Wildcard race now. Seasons essentially over. Time to start shutting guys down and playing some future pieces. Maybe even just hold McClain out till the Spring. No sense in rushing him back now. Bring up Hines.

When will Collier get a promotion to AA?

I was hoping he would get to Chattanooga this year. Hard to believe both Stewart & Collier drafted in 2022 haven't made it out of A Ball when they have been playing well. Marte better kick it into high gear if he wants to be the 3B of the long-term future. Especially with the Reds infield next year shifting the lineup around to fit all of McLain, India, EDLC and Candelario. Jeimer needs to be moved, but good luck finding someone to take on his contract. This is the offseason India probably is traded as well. Their are talented 3B like Collier & Stewart soon to be here. Can't forget Arroyo who is predominatly a SS, but Elly is not losing that spot. Really only 2B & 3B spots for all of these players to get playing time from.
What happens to Arroyo with EDLC blocking him? Only thing I can think is he gives them an excuse to move EDLC in a couple of years when he becomes unaffordable.

What about Greene? Haven't seen anything on his "second opinion" trip to California, maybe I missed it.
Last I saw they said "no UCL damage" So that's good I suppose. but with this bunch I'd be seeking an outside opinion on my own if I was Hunter Green. I'm beyond not trusting their Training and medical staff.

I feel like Lowder will be brought along like Abbott was. He will likely start next year in Louisville then get a May/June callup and pretty much never go back unless it's for a rehab assignment which will be inevitable.

Thought Greene already had the vaunted "second opinion" and they decided he only "bumped" his arm on a cabinet or some such nonsense. You're right, the Reds medical staff is not to be trusted.

This is from Lance McCallister, apparently just a bruise. The Reds medical staff is seriously inept.

Hunter Greene's elbow 'issue' is just a bruise that came from a freak accident of banging his elbow on a cabinet. His last start expanded the bruise and caused the inflammation to appear during his examination. He's had an MRI and got three different medical opinions. Dr. Neil Elattrache, who did his Tommy John, indicated his ulnar collateral ligament was "fantastic

I can see them holding him down until the same time as Abbott's call-up for another year of service. Lowder is a little bit further along than Abbott at this point who sort of struggled during his 1st 2 years in the Reds pipeline before catching fire when Andrew started off 2023 in AA Chattanooga. I'm leaving out hope he can still debut this year or get enough experience to make the team on Opening Day with a hot ST.

Not sure they have stated a definite innings cap. Will note though that he has been kept on a strict pitch count. Hasn't exceeded 88 in any start in 2024 so they have paced his arm as the season has progressed. Smart move IMO. Also, shows how efficient of a pitcher pitcher he is to routinely go 5 and 6 innings in most starts.

I think someone gets moved this offseason. Probably India first and EDLC when he gets too expensive for them in arbitration. Arroyo would make good trade bait for another outfielder, a package deal for a SP or dominant setup man in the pen. With 3 weeks left of AA baseball, it appears like that Collier promotion to AA won't be happening this year.

I'd have to think Arroyo would have to show he is fully recovered and will not have any long-term affects from his shoulder surgery before he becomes a valuable trade piece. Otherwise he's damaged goods.

It isn't "when".....it's "if" EDLC gets too expensive for the Reds, and for that to happen, he will need to make astronomical improvements in all facets of the game.

At just 22 years old I believe he has time. Already breaking records though, so there is that. Still not sure what the heck he did to you to have this monster grudge against him though.

Only in your delusional mind is it a matter of "if". Being an All-Star in year two, whether you like it or not has already upped his case in arbitration.

I agree, Arroyo just lost a season this year so Edwin having to prove himself in AAA for awhile seems the most likely case for him. I mentioned trading him, but feel like that would be selling low right now until he returns to the field. Interesting thing I just saw that the Pirates just moved their star SS O'Neil Cruz to CF. Could this be in the cards for EDLC or the other infielders to fit all of them in the lineup in the future?

Lodolo, Abbott, Ashcraft, Greene, Antone, Martini, Arroyo, Williamson, McLain, Candelario, Fraley and Fairchild are all on the Injured List.

The injuries are really pretty unbelievable. Pretty much the entire starting staff is now on the IL. This season is over.
Agree, it is going to be hard to survive at this rate. It is alarming how the Reds pitching staff for 4 years in a row has had significant injuries. Even Gray & Miley before the 2022 fire sale. The Reds just placed Fairchild on the IL and called up Hinds now. That is all I can ask is just to give these young guys a shot in a lost season to let them develop or prove they aren't a part of the future so the Reds can plan accordingly to move on.

Jim Day said in the pregame show it is 16 of the 40 players on the 40-man roster who are on the IL. That is 40% of the roster. The Reds training staff and their strength and conditioning regiment needs to be completely overhauled.

Good to see that update on Williamson's rehab. Still probably going to take him a few more before he is activated having missed all year.

I see Bell is using that strategy again tonight of bringing in every pitcher in the bullpen till he finds one that sucks. Worked again.
Thought Bell should have given Junis another inning as a former starter and had some degree of success early in his career with KC. 4 perfect innings tonight. Unfortunately, Santillan had himself a bad performance out there. As far as I'm concerned, Justin Wilson, Legumina & Alan Busenitz can never step foot on the mound in GABP again unless it is for an opposing team. They are awful.

I only hope at this point of the season is that he's healthy for next year. And I'm starting to worry about that.
I agree, at this point he will just be playing catch up in a season going nowhere and the risk of him getting hurt lingering into 2025 for an injury-prone player is not worth it. Anyone can tear their ACL or Achilles tendon at any time.

+3 when you consider Friedl, Pagan & Maile who have all missed a good amount of time at some in this season on the IL before they finally got healthy. 19 of 40 have been hurt at some point. Not to mention Edwin Arroyo down in the minors who missed the entire season out of ST. Unreal!

Saw where the Cubs scored 41 runs in this 3 game series vs the Pirates. 18 Monday & 14 today. Wish the Reds could have a slugfest like that. Chicago was a game under .500 before the series, not 2 above.
