Reds

Had a great year. Lively in the playoffs too. Reds, meanwhile, have half the staff on IL and other half having TJ. And you're keeping these coaches??
Same with Jeff Hoffman now for the Phillies. An All-Star pitcher who the Reds lost patience with and would not wait for him to get healthy. He was decent in his final season with the Reds and remember getting blasted here for saying it was a mistake for Cincinnati to non-tender him. Could have traded him later for something in return since they still had team control.

Realistically they will never be big spenders. However, having an offseason like they did going into 2020 signing Miley, Moustakas & Castellanos is something I can see the organization doing. Don't waste it on Moustakas and they need someone they can count on to eat innings like Martinez. Miley was good, but very injury prone. Nathan Eovaldi would be a good addition to mentor this young pitching staff and fill out the rotation. He has real postseason experience which would be huge for the Reds having a proven winner in October. Sign an outfielder and a setup man to pitch in high-leverage situations.
Hoping they make a qualifying offer to Martinez. Hopefully he can continue the dominance he showed the last half of the season. I have to also think playing for Terry Francona might garner some looks from some bigger free agent names.

No, and he won't if you look at his overall career. You don't sign a mid 30's retread for $$$$ in hopes he is still good.

Was just GREAT to see Luke Weaver as featured RP on the Yankees for the last month and in the playoffs, where he has been outstanding. Of course, Reds had him last year . . . as a starting pitcher where he was God Awful. Reds must have a crackerjack set of pitching coaches, really did a great job of developing Weaver in 2023. 😫

And of course, I jinxed him. I bet the Yankees to win the WS, so it is all on me.

On the last page, I made the case for why the Reds should extend a qualifying offer to Martinez if he opts out. There is almost no chance he is going to accept it. As a Boras client and at this stage of his career, he will want a 2-3 year deal and one big contract before he retires. If that is the case, so be it. Let him decline the offer. The Reds will get a compensation pick in next year's draft unlike they would if Cincinnati does not offer him. The Reds can use that money to give another player a contract extension, go after another pitcher to fill his spot, sign a dependable relief pitcher or upgrade the outfield.

Luis Mey in the Arizona Fall League. 3 saves, 3 scoreless innings without a hit. 1 walk and 4 K's. Tyler Callihan has been used exclusively as a LF. Hitting .364 with 4 stolen bases.

Aaron Judge is 6-43 with 20k's in the postseason, including 1-12 with 7k's in the World Series. Arguably the worst performance I have seen in the World Series, certainly the worst by an overpaid hack "superstar."

I wonder if dipshit Cole is posting on the Yankees boards and verbally assaulting Michael Kay on X like a psychopath that he is for the worst performance of all time.

Rizzo now a free agent - that would be about par for the Reds - an over the hill expensive first baseman that used to be good

Barnhart, Wynss and Maile all gone. Gonna need to land a FA catcher or three. Have the couple of catchers they drafted really high a few years ago just not panned out at all? Mat Nelson? Logan Tanner?
Nelson hitting barely over .200 in 6 minor league seasons with modest power, Tanner under .200 with limited power in 3 MiLB seasons. Both have been flops.

I would be thrilled if they added Travis D'Arnaud if you are looking for offense. Wouldn't be surprised to see them settle for Austin Hedges as a better backstop since he played under Francona during his final years in Cleveland.

In other words, you could get another Luke Maile for pennies on the dollar.

Not a lot there worth keeping, not fretting this.

I don't think this is the full list of players for the Reds that are exposed to the Rule 5 Draft. Blog Red Machine did an article yesterday and showing a few more players.

  • Mat Nelson, C
  • Andrew Moore, RHP
  • Justice Thompson, OF
  • Jose Acuña, RHP
  • Tyler Callihan, 2B
  • Michael Trautwein, C
  • Austin Callahan, 2B
  • Luis Mey, RHP
  • Austin Hendrick, OF
  • Ryan Cardona, RHP
  • Ivan Johnson, 2B
  • Jose Franco, RHP
  • Yerlin Confidan, OF
I know they won't be able to keep everyone but a few of these players I wouldn't mind seeing the Reds hold onto. Luis Mey, Jose Franco, Jose Acuna, Andrew Moore, Yerling Confidan & Tyler Callihan. Indifferent on Ivan Johnson & Mat Nelson. It is fair to say both should have done a lot more than they have in the Reds system. I've been saying the Reds should have traded some of the surplus of infielders in a package deal before the prospect window sailed for those without a clear path to a ML starting spot rather than waiting for them to get exposed as players with little to no value but what the hell do I know.

I doubt it will happen, but hopefully Francona implements some professionalism in terms of uniforms and appearance. Lose the long hair, man buns, bandanas, and Elly's clown outfit.

Lol. Yeah, right. This is not the 1960s. You try to tell a guy now on any sports team how long his hair can be and they will slap a lawsuit on you in a matter of hours. You are really out of touch with reality.
