We weren't issued bayonets. I don't know if the armory even had any. At times we worked with the Turks and I don't recall them having any,but it has been well over 50 years.That gun is probably one of the longer used weapon systems in the modern times. We used it in some capacity for around 40 years at least and it was still being used in other countries, I believe, until a few years ago. That's like 80+ years total. I'd imagine it would have lasted even longer in the US if not for automatic weapons.
Do you recall seeing these bayonets in Turkey and if so, do you have any idea when these were made? Trying to find information on them.

As for overseas M1 Garands. In 1994 I was in Haiti as a civilian before and during the mission to return Jean Bertrand Aristide to power. The FRAPH - the militia of the cabal that overthrew Aristide —was armed largely with US surplus M1s. I was on the edges of a group of protesters when the FRAPH opened fire on them with M1s, killing several. I also had them pointed at me by TonTon Macoutes (loosely boogeymen) who were clearly juiced on heavy stimulants and just generally terrorizing folks. I’ll just say it is an effective weapon.

I really hope Trump can do something to reduce the size of the Federal Gov. He needs to start by thinning out all the redundances (various agencies doing the same thing) and getting rid of programs that can be done by the private sector.
