But then there was price gouging which you can’t possibly support but hell maybe you do. Tariffs are going to jump prices even higher. The fact Trump is assembling a team of people he can trust and is actually involving them and listening to them is a huge 180 from his first term. I think the ones they had were pretty much all .30-06. They did have some modded ones that used 7.62. They also had a few other types of rifles. I think they had some M1903's as well. They get some 1911 handguns on occasion.
If anyone is interested in getting an M1 or to see what else they have just do a search for CMP Store (stands for Civilian Marksmanship Program). They get all of these old weapons and resell them for reasonable prices compared to what it would cost you from a collector or gun store. A lot of the ones they have had came from places like Turkey and the Philippines. They were returned after all these years of leasing them.
They come in different quality levels. Cheapest ones are called rack grade and start at like $700. Then they have I believe field and service grade. Mine is expert grade. I drove down there so I could see them instead of just getting whatever they sent. There's a bit of paperwork to deal with if you order through the mail. Less paperwork in person. I had to show birth certificate, DD Form 214. license, and a membership to a CMP affiliated club (you can join one for like $35 to take care of that).
There's a store up in Ohio near Lake Erie, the one in Anniston, AL that I went to, and another one down the road a little near Talladega where they have shooting competitions. Louisville is about in the middle of all of them. Went to the Alabama one since there's 2 stores.

I've already addressed tariffs. They ran this country before the advent of the income tax in 1913 and people were prosperous. How did we function as a country without income taxes? Hmmm....
Tariffs increase WAGES, dummy. Couple that with eliminating the income tax and higher prices don't mean shit. The government effs up EVERYTHING.

I certainly understand and appreciate the sentiment about limited government, but I particularly struggle with applying it to anti-trust, work-place and environmental legislation. There are some lines there, it seems to me, but I'm definitely not sure where to draw them. Always a good discussion with friends over beer or coffee, but we can never reach consensus or conclusions.

That sucks to see a big part of history destroyed when they could have been saved. I heard some people saying they got the M1's in the past for less than half the price as now. We're just lucky to have gotten a chance to save the ones that we did.
Thankfully there were a bunch brought back from overseas in recent years. No telling how many were in to poor of shape to salvage. They sold some stocks cheap that were in very poor shape at a tent sale they were having while I was there. I guess some people buy them and try to restore them.
