KY is pretty good at absentee, I had to give my driver license number when requesting, and then my signature and a witness.
Also, simply requiring every ballot MUST be in by Election Day would’ve cleared all of this up.

In Kentucky at least, when I showed my ID, they scanned the barcode on the back of it to verify. Yes an ID is easy to fake for the purpose of buying booze or get into a bar, but the barcode is much more difficult to fake and requires access to state databases or real identity theft in some capacity.

That’s the way it was for me when I voted too. They scanned my ID, saw my district and that I was registered, then handed me a ballot.
I make systems for a living, technical systems, but systems nonetheless. The amount of inefficiency in the voting process drives me insane. I see several opportunities for improvement.
But regardless of inefficiencies, one reason the system is so hard to hack is that it’s not one system. It’s literally thousands all under jurisdiction of 50 states. And for that reason, I don’t necessarily favor a unified system.
Also, I have zero problems with recounts. We should have almost the exact count every time, with some margin +/- <1% for some variation.
