I literally have been thinking about that show Doomsday Preppers, and how people used to make fun of all the hillbillies who were worried about a superbug/bio-event, a natural disaster (hurricane, wildfire, flooding), major power outages...all of which we've had...

The other economic and national security concern here is supply chain interruption. This is not an isolated occurrence. China has too many people living too closely together. If it isn't a sickness, it can be a disaster or just Chinese government interference.
We need manufacturing back in the us.
If there is a positive from this, maybe some of these companies will get hit hard enough in the pocket book that they'll move things back or at least diversify. China having this much impact is just asinine

I think people are about to wake up to the economic reality of what is taking place. We are set up beautifully for another great recession type of market collapse in the not too distant future. I'm of the personal opinion this virus is not half as big a deal as the media is making it out to be. Even if I'm right, it doesnt matter. As long as fear keeps getting pumped into the airwaves, people will keep acting fearfully. This means less consumerism, less production, less travel, less everything. The market is dropping on the fear of those things happening, but what happens when earnings show they are in fact happening? Even worse, what if earnings show that and this bug isnt under control? You're going to see a massive run on the market that will not be easily or quickly fixed.
We are on the brink of a global economic collapse for absolutely no good reason. This is the ONE thing that could happen to get Bernie elected. What happens then? Another massive run on the market. This is setting up like a perfect storm.
The economic consequences will turn out to be FAR worse than this stupid virus. People are going to get hurt and badly off of this.

I survived the Ebola pandemic that was going to kill us all a few years back. I’m going to take a wait and see approach before I freak out over some media hysteria over the pandemic du jour.
The only thing that scares me about the coronavirus is that the media and democrats want a pandemic to kill a bunch of Americans so they can blame Trump. The way they shoot up congressional baseball games, drive through voter registration tents, champion gulags, etc., I wouldn’t put it past those unhinged lunatics to try and spread the disease.

Generally I think there's a big problem with over optimization. Stuff isn't supposed to go wrong and largely hasn't for a while. The known known and unknown gets measured , predicted, and hedged against. The unknown unknown is ignored, because it is impossible to plan for. This virus is an example of the unknown unknown. When for instance you are in debt up to your paycheck, there isn't enough slack in the system to handle the unknown.
I just don't think there's much slack in the system, and the increased use of math over the last decade decreased it more.
No wonder the dems want the coronavirus to kill off everyone.
I've been wrong more than I've been right, but my guess is unless the Dems nominate a homosexual, black voters won't swing for Trump by more than a few percentage points.
In 2016 the breakdown was: (D) 88%, (R) 8%, other 4%. I could maybe see it going something like 86/12/2, but you have to remember that most black voters are either in the Deep South, Illinois, or New York. So their votes aren't really going to affect the electoral map unless they really turn out for Trump anyway

They aren't posting those numbers because they think those voters will have a significant effect on the election. They're posting them to try to prove they aren't racist. It's the "I totally have a black friend you guys" argument.
He will get more than any Republican has in years. It probably won't be in the 40% wise obviously, but Trump is much more well liked among blacks than reported. He will do better among them than people think.
