Trump has had no better luck in Afghanistan than has any other POTUS. To be fair to him, there is little that can be done. Afghanistan has been in perpetual war for 300 years. If they aren't fighting us, they will be fighting each other.
The Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS, etc are all highly decentralized, highly factioned "organizations". Nobody speaks for them all, nobody can negotiate for them all. They aren't nations with borders, they are ideas...as fu#ked up as those ideas might be.
But how big of a hypocrite do you have to be to publicly condemn someone for something that didn't happen and then engage in the very act in which you condemned that person for even considering?
On top of that...how stupid do you have to be to announce that you called off "secret meetings" for that very thing?
The point is there is no sense in talking to anyone. There are no deals to be made. You might as well make a deal with your dog to not mark the next fireplug. Whatever agreement is made will be worthless because there are no trustworthy parties with whom to deal. And when they break the agreement...what then? They have been in perpetual war longer than we have been a nation. How does anyone think that there is a good way to get out other than to just do so?

yea because Trump has been a massive success. On his watch the Taliban has completely taken over Afghanistan and now ISIS is starting to re take over Syria. Iran is back to building nukes, NK has perfected nukes and is mass producing and testing ballistic missiles. The saudis are now ramping up a nuke program. All peachy in the ME!
