As they say, necessity is the mother of invention. If it is possible to power our nation's grid...the world's grid with solar, wind, geothermal and other clean sources of energy then why shouldn't we pursue them?
The sun alone delivers more energy to earth in an hour than the total worldwide usage of fossil fuels in a year. If the potential exists to make fossil fuels obsolete, why shouldn't we pursue that potential?

Those risks are amplified when your socialist government forces you to cut corners in production and maintenance... otherwise they can be all but eliminated.
If it's possible, then the free market can pursue it and make a profit without the government picking winners and losers in a wasteful, incompetent and corrupt vision what is best.

It's probably closer to a minute would equal the entire usage of mankind, past present and future. The reason why we shouldn't just blindly pursue what you leftists deem as potential because you never have a damn clue what you are talking about; blindly agreeing with your Al Gore overlords doesn't mean you know science. An example of this is electric cars, you don't care, if you even know, that the amount of energy it takes to make the electric motor, the very toxic batteries and rare earth minerals mined and carbon footprint added by using coal sourced electricity entirely negates your green vehicle from being green... which will break down sooner and you'll need to buy a new one sooner thereby doubling up on that footprint, but hey you feel good about yourself for making a difference!

Great, money to the government and you can die in your delusions blissfully unaware while at the sleep at the wheel of your self driving car as the battery explodes (because that's what batteries do, it's what they want to do by the physics of a capacitor).
