And Elizabeth Warren still being a thing in the Democratic Party. You would think that a white women who has lied about being a minority for big chunks of her life, would be crucified in this age where everything is white privilege. But I guess if you promise enough free crap and constantly tell everyone that all of their problems are not from their own personal decisions but all because of the government. I guess people will just forget about the whole lying about race thing. Even though I dont get the whole, "all your problems in life is because of the government, vote for me and I will make the government even bigger and control even more of your life" approach of a campaign.

A million bucks today isn't close to the same thing as a million bucks two hundred years ago. So comparing the wealth of the 95% now vs the rest of history judged purely by dollar amount and not compared to the standards of the day is pretty pointless. That's basic economics.
Then why has China experienced the largest economic growth in the world over the last quarter century? If all forms of socialism/communism/Marxism are so obviously terrible that they're guaranteed to return us to the Dark Ages then China's state owned industries shouldn't be able to compete in the global economy, right?

Was this a real take? So if we become a communist nation I’m assuming you’ll be the first in line for sweat shop duty with physical consequences if you don’t perform well for small monetary gain. Then you can rest easy knowing the government owned your production and competed globally. Sounds awesome.

I am puzzled by all 20 of the candidates they are throwing at us on the Dim side. Not a single one lines up with any of my political philosophy and it is obvious I will never be able to vote for one under any circumstance.. This Castro fellow is a total tool and he has to be related to Fidel in some manner. The Harris lady is also a fraud and I can go on down the list.
A final thing, it is amazing the type of candidates that come out of New England. That is a weird part of the country .
Why are white Americans the focus of hatred for slavery? The British, French, Portuguese and the Spanish enslaved thousands not to mention the Africans slavers who sold their own people. They were the reason for slavery all through out the America’s. Not the USA. White Americans are who liberated slaves and gave blacks a country they could prosper in. it took centuries to cleanse the mind set that was brought with the original settlers or the new world. Since moving to Latin America my mindset has changed. Colombian blacks don’t ask for anything. Haitians? They don’t ask for any thing. Folks in the Caribbean and Brazil ask for nothing. For some reason though the whites in the USA are blamed for slavery. The usa did not bring slavery. It was the 4 countries mentioned and the African nations who sold their people. White Americans actually ended slavery. Wtf is going on here???

History revisionist. It is so deep it can never be corrected now. I doubt any public school in America would teach that blacks owned slaves in America. Or the first slave owner in America ( at Jamestown) was a black man. Cherokee Indians had 1,000's of black slaves and took them to Oklahoma when they were forced out of Georgia. They had to give up their gold but could keep their slaves.
And the point about Africans selling Africans. Some would deny that and have you believe whites went to Africa and went through the jungles catching Africans for slaves using their nets. You really have to have a limited brain to believe that could happen. And of course it didn't. The Africans who were not sold into slavery were usually killed once they were captured by their conquers.
Democrats need a cop out as they actually don’t have a message other than identity politics. They’ve clearly hitched their wagon to racism (and any ism for that matter). Add to that, that most people younger than 35 haven’t brushed up on history enough to know better. We have college students who didn’t know we had a civil war.

My son is in high school in Latin America and they do not teach the bs that is taught in the usa. They pin the blame on the countries that initiate slavery and on the African countries who gained from slavery. You’re right it’s all revisionist and cannot be corrected. The lies are absorbed by the pc culture as fact: Brazil didn’t ban slavery until 1890 or so, where is the outrage??
I was visiting Colombia not so long ago spending a few weeks in Cartagena and along the carribean coast. In Cartagena sits the old city which was centered around the slave trade. 1 million Slaves were estimated sold there. At one time the largest in the world. Everyone there celebrates the history and touts it to make money. The statue of Pedro de Heredia sits in the center. There isn’t a thought to destroy it like in the Usa there aren’t groups pissing the bed bc if it.
To elaborate, you've used this argument many times on here, seems to be a cornerstone of your worldview. It's not only completely irrelevant economically to compare strict dollar amounts by historical time period, it's intentionally misleading. Your basic argument is "things are the best they've ever been, so kindly shut up." This is flawed for multiple reasons. Here are a few:
1) Wealth inequality is some of the largest it's ever been. Saying "the bottom 95% is richer than they've ever been" is meaningless when comparatively they're some of the poorest.
2) Conditions are better for workers than they were in the past because they fought for those standards. The 95% have scratched and clawed for every inch they've gotten over the centuries. The only way to continue that trend of improving the lives of workers is to continue to fight, not throw up our hands and call "good enough!"
3) The same "bottom 95%" comment is true of the rest of the world as well. The increase in wealth of the bottom 50% of the world's population has been massive over the last 50 years, but that's all relative. When a sweatshop worker in Laos goes from making .50 a day to 1.50 a day he's tripling his earning, but no one in America can live on 1.50 a day so it's meaningless for our frame of reference. The rest of the world has risen while comparatively we've not even plateaued but regressed due to our penchant for trickle down corporate handouts.
I welcome your thoughtful post, but no that is not the basic argument. These numbers are direct responses to the flaws you perceive.
1) Relativity is the only thing that is meaningful. You living better than the kings of old is anything but meaningless. You are using a relative argument (today's comparison) to claim my relative (overall and contextualized historical comparison) argument is invalid... that is logically inconsistent.
2) I encourage you to fight harder to improve your lot, but not by taking from others you deem to have earned it unfairly.
3) Improvement in the rest of the world is to celebrated. You are concerned with redistributing wealth from those greater than you, to you and for you, whereas I am far more interested in how to get your wealth and give it to them since they are willing to work for it.
I recognize the growing disparity between haves and have nots and am all for measures to improve the lots of the average man. You are concerned with the haves too much and the haves not enough for your tastes when the reality is that you only got to where you are, with the luxury to complain about not having enough, on the backs of everyone else... many of whom you despise.
