I watched CNN for the first time in years because Fox went to the Florida Governor's debate, and some lady was talking about Donald Trump creating the environment for these shootings by attacking the Press.

There are millions upon millions of voters in the middle, maybe even the majority of them, who couldn't care less about politics or government. They are preoccupied with life. They have a family, careers, bills, etc to worry about. They don't follow politics closely and only tune in once the general starts.
If the general electorate would have gotten a load of Bernie, they would have shunned him. There's a reason most politicians, Democrat and Republican, pretend to be more moderate during their general campaigns. That's because the voters they're trying to win over in order to win a general election are those in the middle.
