This is likely just a major f*ck up from one or both of the pilots and/or flight control. The Blackhawk’s are flying up and down the Potomac all day/night (you get used to it when you live in the area). In addition, that runway the plane was landing on isn’t used near as often as the main runway at Reagan and requires the plane to cross over the Potomac very low to land on the runway that is both short and right on the edge of the river. How does it happen? Hiring based on the wrong criteria?
But at the end of the day it’s hard to imagine the helicopter pilot/crew not knowing about a flight coming in. That airport is absurdly busy and the helicopter pilots know that. Just incredibly tragic and leaves a lot of questions about how it can happen.
