A European diplomatic source says Trump also wants European nations to contribute financially for the remaining forces, arguing that American taxpayers shouldn’t bear the full cost of deterrence.
This follows Trump’s 2020 decision to withdraw 12,000 troops from Germany, which Biden later reversed.
