Almost sixty years ago, I spent 18 months in Muslim Turkey. Basically they liked whoever they made money off of. A friend of mine was seriously stabbed for simply talking to a Turkish girl ( in a nicer/American ish part of town). The Officers Club was bombed and because a friend of mine did something stupid, we had to run for our lives from a mob. I was in good shape and ran fast enough to catch a bus and got the Turkish bus driver to wait on my slower buddy who was just a little ahead of the mob.
