We already have sensible and extensive gun laws. Lack of enforcement of existing laws and prohibiting citizens from defending themselves because of the repeatedly failed "gun-free" zone experiment are the ongoing keys to the problem. Both of those are due to the liberal influence in our political, legislative, executive, and judicial systems.
Constitutional conservatives have not been pushing this legislation and policy. Liberals have. Repeatedly, while refusing to let anyone enforce the previous legislation properly.

This is one of the problems with gun control legislation. Definitions matter. I don't mind a 1 day cooling off period so long as the legislation doesn't have loopholes for government employees, current or retired.
If background checks were to be universal, a system of near immediate response times must be established as well clearly defined reasons for denials as well as clearly established rights to challenge a denial.
Trying to turn gun retailers into the gun police with serious risk of criminal charges if they fail is absurd. They have neither the tools nor training for this. Frankly its little more than intimidating people out of the business. As for the CDC, they need to stay in their lane. At this point I'm not sure I trust them to make a bologna sandwich.
For the most part, these aren't sensible laws. They are Trojan horses making the sale and owning of guns both difficult and replete with high risk for felony charges. Our constitution didn't intend to do any of this. I dont think most of it would survive judicial review.
How about this. Stop worrying about scary looking guns. I could do far more harm with hunting equipment such as a 30.06 with moderate sized clips. A pump shotgun and a handgun with moderate sized clips. Same with a 308.
Let's look at 2023 gun deaths. Roughly 60% are by suicide and 34% are by gang and/or inner city violence. Roughly 2% is by police. So we've accounted for 96% of our gun deaths so far. These laws you're talking about may or may not reduce this number - at all. That leaves us 4% or roughly 2000 gun deaths. In a country of 330 million people do you really think you can accomplish much? These laws can make a huge mess, shut down industries, jail law abiding citizens and the majority of those 2000 deaths would still occur.
A simple fact is this, people who buy these scary looking guns now almost never murder with them. The issue is our culture where stress is at an all time high and poorly developed minds gain access to guns and do horrible things with them. Even then, it is quite rare. We need to fix our culture. We need to address our mental health issues, especially in young people. We need to encourage healthy, nuclear families. If we do these things these shootings will largely go away.
Wonder how many plead to charges because they do not have the resources to fight the tyrannical Biden admin?
