That’s a decent start. And we can address sensible gun control measures also… that address not just school shootings but shootings in general.
With that being said did the school not have security. I don’t know about private schools as much but every public school in my area (middle and high) have an on campus cop. Metal detectors are doable but more difficult especially in bigger schools as it makes it logistically to difficult to get all the kids in a school in the morning. Not impossible by any stretch but it has its issues

There are no sensible gun control measures, only confiscation.
There are already 20,000 gun laws on the books. It's already illegal to murder. How are more laws going to PREVENT murders?

We already have sensible and extensive gun laws. Lack of enforcement of existing laws and prohibiting citizens from defending themselves because of the repeatedly failed "gun-free" zone experiment are the ongoing keys to the problem. Both of those are due to the liberal influence in our political, legislative, executive, and judicial systems.
Constitutional conservatives have not been pushing this legislation and policy. Liberals have. Repeatedly, while refusing to let anyone enforce the previous legislation properly.
