Not an exaggeration. Things are going to get pretty sporty out there if a gunman ever succeeds where the last two failed.

You know I find this whole phenomenon of talking politics at Thanksgiving to be rather curious. I don’t really recall such banter being common at Thanksgiving dinner when I was growing up. Back in those days the discussion was always focused on what was going on with various members of the family… careers, relationships, kids, etc. At least that’s how it was with my family. From my perspective, this political invasion of family Thanksgiving only appears to have become a thing over the last 15-20 years. I think it’s a result of the 24 hour news cycle and hyper polarized “news” stations that spend every waking and non-waking moment of the day driving polarizing political narratives. So many people are consumed with the political drama that is spills over to their interactions with family in such gatherings. I will never understand why people can’t just shelve the politics and focus on their families for a few hours on a holiday.
It is just jokes...I don't think most people talk politics with their relatives.
My experience has been that politics now routinely comes up in family gatherings. Even for someone who routinely keeps up with the political landscape, I find it fairly tiresome.

I went to my wife's family's Thanksgiving dinner tonight.

Had dinner with neighbors. We made fun of our other liberal neighbors a good portion of the meal. Good times!!
He obviously has a large blow hole on his shoulders so, he should fit right in. Hope he takes the women of the left with him. Wales will not be on the endangered species list if you included them. Whoopie, Rosie, and Joy especially. Imagine this, you would think with names like Whoopie! Rosie, and Joy, these ladies would have a better disposition rather than being "The Witches of Leftwitch".

I still don't do it regardless of where I go. No point really, it just makes people do and say things they normally would not. Had lunch Wednesday (we do it every month) with a couple of old friends. One is a lefty and the other does not care nor vote (he came here from Thailand at 16). We just talk about old friends and what is going on in each other's lives.
She has that burned out lightbulb brightness. We see her kind of intelligence here with the likes of the two sammy's, Dion, the hall monitor, and a few others.

Politics has replaced religion in many people's lives. Plus, it's like aggressively conservative religion, i.e., you have to convert to my thinking or you're a lost soul that I can't associate with. Normal, everyday people I find are more left of center on some issues, right of center on others and, on some issues, DGAF which, in my book, is wonderful. Somewhere along the line, we lost the right to not care about a particular issue. For the hardcore political believers on both sides, that's unacceptable and you MUST take a firm stand or, again, you're a lost soul that has to be shunned.

Work a middle-class job for 40 years and retire to the beach house. Baseball, apple pie, hard wood floors and a grill out back. Smile at the neighbors and stop by for coffee. The freedom to enjoy their lives in peace and dignity and not give a shit about what's going on in the world.
What happened was, the freaks from the 60s took charge of the country and effed everything up and tried to take everyone's freedoms and steal our children's future. And they don't quit. They want this place overrun with uneducated refugees from substandard cultures. They want to mutilate your kids and force them to become trannies. They want to steal your money and give it to themselves in the form of laundered taxes. They want to put anyone who disagrees with them in prison or shoot them.
So now we have a pitched battle for the very soul of what is essential to America: personal liberty. You think the Amish wanted to get involved in this election? Hell no. They are the most A-political group in history. They just churn butter and mind their own business. But the government EFFED with them. They raided one of their farms on some bullshit pretext. So they said, "I guess we gotta get in this fight." There will always be people trying to step on others. America is the last, final stand where people can stand up and say, "not today bitch." And it's a very close call right now. It's literally 50-50 whether America becomes a communist country. Think about that.
We've got four more years to try to stem the tide of evil. But at some point a Democommie is going to win another election and that'll be it. So many people who otherwise were unengaged are recognizing it's time to crap or get off the pot. Maybe you personally don't give a shit right now, but at some point they'll come after something YOU care about, just like they did the Amish. That's when you'll realize you're wrong to be so casual about it. You'd best pick a side and load up because otherwise you'll get caught in the crossfire and war doesn't tiptoe around collateral damage.

1) Systematically dismantle every single one of Biden’s executive orders
2) Secure the border
3) Drill baby, drill!!!
4) Hit the ground running on identifying, locating & deporting the worst of the criminal illegal immigrants
5) Using laws currently on the books…prosecute to the fullest extent of the law any citizens, including government officials, that obstruct the federal agents implementing #4 above
6) Set up several housing/deportation centers in sanctuary cities including in Rehoboth Beach, DE & Wilmington, DE for other illegal immigrants from across the country until they can be processed and deported
7) Blow everyone’s mind with a pardon for Hunter Biden. But only under the following conditions: weekly drug tests and lifetime probation. If he fails one drug test or breaks any other law then he must serve the maximum sentence on his current case which is 17 years…without the possibility of parole
8) No more billions to Ukraine
9) Several rounds of golf
I feel like Trump can get all of that done in the first 100 days including the inevitable incarceration of Hunter Biden for breaking the conditions of his executive pardon.
At the 2 year mark:
- Take the DOGE recs and weed out whatever waste & dead weight that hasn’t already been trimmed
- I fully expect the term “sanctuary city” to be completely eradicated from the English language by year 2

No offense, but you kinda just proved my point. On most issues, I'm conservative but not on ALL issues and certainly not reactionary right on all issues. And that is the problem. There is no middle ground for many people anymore. You're either 100% in agreement with me or you're my enemy (depending on the individual's viewpoint that means you're a fascist or a RINO). That ensures that 50% of the American people will be the 'enemy' for the party/philosophy in power. That's a horrible way to govern. Yes, the Dems have been more guilty of 'my way or the highway' thinking than the Pubs in my opinion. But, there is a small (hopefully) percentage of Far Right thinkers that are just as dangerous as the Far Left. Governing for either extreme is bad for the country. Yes, we've started down a bad road with open borders, out of control spending, identity politics, normalizing mental illness and sexual perversion, etc. But 'the sky is falling unless we eradicate these apostates' is not any better, imo.
The government. especially the spooks will abuse every single inch and take a mile. With communications being shifted to overseas communication points and back to the US so they can say the "email" came from overseas....eff the spooks. What was intended for over seas terrorists quickly morphed into spying on American citizens on our soil. End it now.
Thank you for articulating all of this. Like I said, I am going glass half full approach this go-around. Obviously big thing for me will be economy, so if I have a few more nickels in my bank each month, will definitely consider the GOP again in the future.
Honestly, that's why I got back into forums. I have a twitter, but conversations just don't go anywhere there and reddit is a left leaning echo chamber. I still view those places, but I am trying to broaden my news scope to understand both sides better. Some people here have been really engaging, some have quickly placed me on ignore and will continue to be blissfully unaware of my POV. To each their own, I guess.
I know and do business with quite a few Amish and know their families. I somewhat agree because I know some who do not vote, for religious reasons. But that is up to their particular community "leader." Their "head minister." That doesnt mean that they are unaware of politics. They are and I never met an Amish who is not conservative and pro-47. I also do know some who vote. Some were told that they MUST vote. Anyway it made a huge difference in PA. I will also note that my conversations are with the males. Although I do know and have brief conversations with the females, wives, etc... they are not as open to speaking with a male "English."

Wayne county has seen a massive growth of Amish. There's at least 4 new families that have moved onto my dad's road in the past few years. My dad worked for RECC for years and now does some independent work and he was talking about the nuances of their communities. A few guys down here will be moving to Indiana in short time to begin building families up there.
Someone asked me about that in 2012. He asked why things were getting so heated and i responded that, for many issues, there is no more room for compromise. It either is or isn't at this point (either the border is secure, or it isn't ... either little Timmy is Tammy or he isn't). And when you push people like that, esp when these things worked for hundreds of years, expect pushback.
