I wonder if we sent our best to those 2023 games. Sometimes we don't always send our best for whatever reason. I remember a year we sent our best to a competition in Panama (Panamanian Games I believe, mid 80's) and there was another competition in Canada which we sent some others to. The West Germans at the time were there in Canada with Michael Gross (the Albatross). Admittedly, he was a great swimmer. He had beaten a few Americans in earlier swims in that competition and said it was child's play to swim against the Americans. The next day was the 4 by 4 relay in which the anchor for the Germans was Michael Gross and he had a lead, but an unheralded swimmer by the name of Bruce Hays who was anchoring Team USA came from behind to help Team USA take gold. He had heard the words of Michael Gross from the day before and it fired him up.Shot:
