I’m not painting the whole system, just showing where we are now. 10 years ago the sex ish would have NEVER been in a pre K classroom. Now it is. And I’m aware it’s not in Kentucky classrooms, at least where my kids go. But the fact it’s in (check out California, New York and Virginia) schools at all and will no doubt spread is a major concern.
There are several guidelines of this math teaching that getting the right answer is not the point. I know you’ve seen it by now. That’s insane. When you’re in the real world, no one cares if you solved a problem a certain way or through a certain method. They want the correct answer. And the problem with these approaches is they don’t compensate for kids who do not care, or have parents who do not care. It’s the exact opposite of getting the most out of kids, they get the least because teachers are forced to hold up the kids excelling… and please don’t tell me that isn’t happening because I’ve seen it first hand.
