Question for everyone here:
The goal of Trump's border wall and his trade wars with China was better paying jobs for American workers right? In theory this would stop immigrants from taking jobs that would go to American citizens and it would limit trade with China and increase the number of goods services made in America thus increasing demand for American workers.
Right now there is more demand for American workers than there has ever been in my lifetime (41 years old). Low skilled workers in Louisville have gone from being able to get $10-$12/hour to getting $15-$20/hour over a 2 year period. Also with significantly increased overtime opportunities.
Basically everyone in America has access to a decent job now, but instead of this being a good thing everyone thinks it is the worst thing that has ever happened. Maybe inflation looks bad, but to someone who got a 50%-100% raise 7% inflation is no big deal. That only impacts folks who were already doing plenty good enough and honestly it's a nuisance not a deal breaker. Also little secret higher paying jobs for all American low skilled workers was always going to inflate the cost of everyday goods and services because people could afford more of them.
Remember when people used to talk about the good old days of American workers having good paying jobs? Yes that was the 60's, 70's, and 80's. A time when inflation was pretty high historically. Remember when we talked about Americans not having access to good paying jobs? 90's, 00's, and 10's, those were times of historically low inflation. I flatiron and good paying jobs for low skilled workers go together.
This was always going to be what it looked like economically when employers had to go fight for workers instead of the other way around. Enjoy it and quit griping about it.
