Yeah, sure… I’m a Louisville troll because I brought facts to your little “Tubby and I are best friends / how could anyone fire him?” thread. For being such a Tubby superfan I bet you never even watched his Minnesota teams more than once or twice. If you had, you would know that Minnesota fans had many of the same complaints that Kentucky fans had about Tubby Smith. Maybe you should just stick to talking about the team you actually follow.

What Minnesota did to Tubby was abysmal. They hired him away from here and immediately acted like they couldn't believe they had a coach of his caliber running their program.

He took a crappy Minnesota team from the season before (9-22) and went 20-14 in his first season. His 6 seasons at Minnesota were pretty good by comparison to what they were used to:

2007-2008 - 20-14 (NIT first round)
2008-2009 - 22-11 (NCAA 1st Round)
2009-2010 - 21-14 (NCAA 1st Round)
2010-2011 - 17-14
2011-2012 - 23-15 (NIT runner-up)
2012-2013 - 21-13 (NCAA 3rd round)

Then they forced him out for lil' rickee. His tenure so far has been like this:

2013-2014 - 25-13 (NIT champs) ***note - this was done with Tubbys team that he took to the round of 32 the previous season***
2014-2015 - 18-15
2015-2016 - 6-11 (so far)

As far as I'm concerned, Minny is getting everything they deserve here. They dropped a solid coach for a sexy hire and it backfired on them dramatically.

Different era I know but at one point Minnesota trotted out a starting lineup of Kevin McHale, Flip Saunders, Mychel Thompson, and Ray Williams who was a top ten pick

They Gophers also had some success in the 90s

Minnesota has 8 NCAA Tournament appearances ever. 3 of them by Tubby.

Hilarious. I can see I am talking with a 12 year old who can't handle someone disagreeing with him/her. If I am such a troll, show me a previous post where I make inflammatory remarks about Kentucky players, Calipari, Kentucky fans in general....

IMO, Tubby is an overrated coach. His biggest shortcoming has always been his recruiting. If he hadn't had the name "Kentucky" on his chest, he never would have had anywhere near the success he did.

I do agree with Rabidcatfan though. Minnesota is getting what they deserve. But NOT for firing Tubby. Their biggest mistake was hiring a known womanizer AD (with previous accusations) like Norwood Teague. Well, that and letting their facilities go to sh!t for 40 years before doing anything about it. And then they hire Pitino Jr. Stupidity at its finest.
