Not sure how you don't call a double dribble there on UVA. Looked like the ref closest to the play turned his head right when the kid started his dribble behind the back...and probably assumed that the ball was tipped by the defender??? That would make sense. But man what a time to turn your head and not watch the play right in front of you.
That non-call cost Auburn the game. The ref calls double dribble there and the game is over.

In real time I’d say it’s hard to see that double dribble given that the ref and both players all had momentum heading the other way. Probably just looked like a bobble or a lost handle.
Absolutely 100% a foul on the shot. If that had been us and it NOT been called a foul on our shooter, there would have been no Twin Cities. Would’ve just been St Paul and a pile of burning ashes. Everybody bitches about refs, then they make a good call. A missed call does not preclude a good call.
Auburn players are dumb and always are. It’s really quite odd.
A bobble or lost handle? Ok. If a player bobbles the ball or looses the handle of the ball...and then picks the ball up with two hands...it's a dead ball. Thus a double dribble when you start dribbling again.
The ref had to assume the ball was tipped by the defender. That's the only way it's not a violation.

False. That has always been a rule.
A player shooting a jump shot has to have room to land. If you impede that landing it's a foul. Especially if you "undercut" the shooter and make contact with him mid-air...which is exactly what happened tonight.
The terminology or wording of the rule may have changed 10 years ago and the "room to land for the shooter" part has been a point of emphasis since then...but for good reason.
Even so, his landing was not impeded. He landed on two feet.
