Marvin Bagley III, the country's No. 1 basketball recruit, could skip senior year to play for Duke o

Based on my experiences in the northeast, Kentucky has a 1/10th of the fanbase as Duke. I don't know what it's like in the South, West, MW, etc.. But Duke and UNC fans run rampant up here.. to the point that I always viewed them as America's teams.
I always thought the northeast was pretty heavy with Duke/UNC fans. I grew up living in KY, OH, and IL and always had limited interactions with either fan base. I now live in CO and really don't see much, maybe a Duke or UNC hat here and there. It does seem the ACC has a pretty strong hold on the northeast, I've meet a weird amount of people from NJ who are Duke fans.

Yeah haven't been West coast. IDK what it is about the Northeast.. maybe because it's really just Syracuse and Uconn more recently.. But those schools are still pretty meh without much history. Midwest you have proximity to Kansas/Kentucky/Indiana.. South you have UNC/Duke/Kentucky also.. West coast you have your UCLA/Zona etc..

Northeast is pretty weak for college ball comparatively. Mostly smaller schools that may have Alumni.. but no big schools like the ones above..

Hey Silver Spoons aka TheDude1 keyboard warrior. Saying I'm a pussy over on your board. Do you wanna swap info? I'll show you who the pussy is. Straight up. You wanna take it to a personal level, I'm more than game. Let's see what you're really about. No shit. Any time, bub. Any time. [smoke]

Hes a punk. I remember him claiming to be some kind of gun guy, then starts blabbering about regulations, sensible gun control, etc. So I told him he's not a gun guy and doesnt speak for us. He's a lib who likes to pretend he's some enlightened, middle of the road "good guy" who knows a guy that has a gun range OMG ALERT THE NRA!! Cant stand him.
I've been a Duke fan since 1977, went to High School, College, and grad school in North Carolina, including one degree from Duke. Does that meet your criteria?

The reactions to my post are interesting. I didn't say anything about Duke being great or anything bad about UNC, State, or UK. I was just noting that when I was in in high school and college, Duke's fanbase was largely from outside NC, but that over the past 40 years, it has become the second most popular program in the state. Seems like a pretty dispassionate analysis.

You are a rare case. Id say the majority of "Duke" fans are exactly what I stated.

I have a bandwagon Duke friend here in Tennessee that admits he likes Duke because of the bs that they have white players. Its funny because Kentucky always had a stigma attatched to us by the media over that, while Duke gets a free pass in the modern age. East coast/tobacco road bias at work.

Duke isnt their own program, it's owned and operated by one man and has been aided by soft road after sofr road. Let's see if Duke, unlike any other program has been able to do, can repeat UK's success outside of the family.

I dont think Duke is big enough, or has the demanding following of a program like UK to do it. Good luck.

I've always been told the opposite by people I know from Nc. Always claimed NCState had the biggest following.

I've lived in NC for over 20 years, 10 minutes from where NC State plays; but I work closer to UNC & Duke. There are a lot of NC St fans, but probably only more than UNC in Raleigh (possibly Cary which is next to Raleigh). Duke owns Durham. And Cary is hard to say (Raleigh suburb of over 100K, where I live) is 80-90% out-of-state transplants, so there are a lot of UNC, Duke, NC St, and a lot of fans of other schools too. Cary is said to stand for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.

I'd say:
Raleigh is 60% State, 30% UNC, 10% other
Durham is 70% Duke, 20% UNC, 10% other
Chapel Hill is 95% UNC, 5% other
Cary is 30% UNC, 30% State, 15% Duke, 25% other
Of course Winston-Salem has a lot of Wake Forest fans, but the rest of the state is probably 40% UNC, 30% State, 10% Duke, 5% Wake Forest, 15% other (other is bigger when it comes to football because ECU has a decent football fanbase)

I'd take bagley regardless of what he thinks, says etc. You take this kinda talent no matter what (sans eligibility, legal issues, horrible temper/personality etc )

You didn't read what I said clearly. I would gladly take Bagley! But if he CHOOSES to go somewhere else BECAUSE he is AFRAID of competition or playing time. Then maybe that really isn't a loss.

.. which isn't a good thing.. they are in the same grouping as the Cowboys and Yankees.. teams with a lot of success 20 years ago and everyone bandwagoned them. Here we are in present time, and those same dumbasses still don't know much about their teams, but have a bajillion articles of clothing. Fairweather fans.

Duke's following is a bunch of yankees. The only thing southern about the university is its location. Bunch of northerners like Duke.

It seems impossible for Bagley to enroll for the 1st semester at any college. However like a lot of football prospects I can see him finishing high school in December and enrolling into some school for the second semester like Diallo. But would this qualify Bagley for the NBA Draft in '18?

Duke is so damn phony. I was close to hoping a "We are Marshall" moment on them but that would feel a little wrong.
All that talent last year and totally shit the bed.
Capel is always hungry, splinter always has back pain, shithead Allen is working on something we have never seen before.
Why on gods green earth would anyone go play for that coaching staff.

He has to graduate high school before the next NBA season starts in order to be eligible for next year's draft.

As a practical matter, he needs to finish up this summer. And I suspect he's lined up to do that.

That is because most of their students come from NY/NJ/CT. They find Duke's high tuition more in-line with NE schools.

He is on a visit to Duke this weekend.Coach K will probably try to convince him to come aboard this year and team with Carter up front.Kansas it's strange how the transfer from William and Mary up and leaves. Then Bagley name comes up.

Yep - Duke gets every recruit for the asking. Just as Knox, Vanderbilt, Washington, Diallo, Richards, Green, GA and Best about that. Who wouldn't want to play for a man who was exposed as the liar and elitist he is, not to mention his remarkable success with OAD's.

Hope you're right. And if Bol stays out west also. How happy would you be if these 6 players makes up our 2018 recruiting class.

1. Louis King
2. Zion Williamson
3. Naz Reid
4. Moses Brown
5. RJ Barrett
6. Immanuel Quickley

I would be ecstatic with that class. If Bagley and Barrett reclassify, that gives us #1 (Barrett) and #2 (Williamson) in the class. Then add another top 10 (Quickley), two more top 15 guys (Reid, Brown) and a top 20 player (King). That's a really strong class.

I think we return some guys from this year's squad, so I don't think we will get that many 5-star guys.

It surely isn't NCSU. Not even close. 40 years ago the state was probably 50% UNC, 40% NCState, 10% Wake/Duke/whatever. Statewide, I'd say Duke may now be #2 in NC. State's popularity has become far more centered around Raleigh than it used to be. UNC is clearly bigger than Duke, but it is much, much closer than it used to be. Duke's fanbase is way more spread out across the country.

Dukes fan base spread across the country ? ... Not
Sure that's entirely accurate

I'm confused (honestly ) lol. You said you don't think we will get that many 5 star guys but
Right above that statement you list six 5* stars that you think we'll get . That seems like a lot
To me ?

And I would be ECSTATIC with that class. Especially, like you, I think we return some good players - even if it's just , baker , TW, SKJ , Gabriel( maybe ) SGA.

Add that along with the class of Zion , barret , quickly etc... woah!!!

My only point is that Duke's fans are less concentrated in NC than are Carolina's or State's and extend pretty much everywhere, although the greatest concentration outside of NC is probably the Northeast. I travel a lot, and I wear Duke hats a lot, and you can find Duke fans all over. Lot harder to find a State fan in Oregon than a Duke fan.

That wasn't my list. I was responding to someone else's list.

I'm honestly exited ab the thought of returning SGA, baker , SKJ, TW and maybe** WG/ Richards to go along with what seems to be shaping
Up as a top 1-2 recruiting class.

I think we will get most of those guys back. Also, Green could return. 6'0 guards have to really have to be spectacular to get drafted.

I'm a KU fan and your right, some off the wall KU fans seemed to try and make a connection between the two. There is NO WAY in hell Bagley is coming to KU. - -I truly believe he just added us as almost of an after thought at the end a little courtesy for the Staff showing interest in him. - -Bagley has Duke written all over him, but I'm still trying to find these other KU fans that think we had ANY kind of chance of landing him - -almost comical

I disagree that Bagley has "Duke written all over him."

He is a super athletic, 6'11 future NBA All-Star PF. When was the last time you saw one of those at Duke?

If he was a 6'8 SF or a 6'4 shooter, then I would agree.

Meh - if Bagley reclasses it just means Zion becomes the No.1 recruit in 2018, and I think he's ours.

I'm just glad he's not going to UNC - a skilled big is all Roy lacks to be a contender again next year. Somehow, I'm just not worried about Duke. Over the last two years, K and his staff have shown themselves to not particularly excel at managing egos on a team.

Here, in the southwest... everyone knows the bluebloods... no team stands out as s favorite; but UL gets tons of ridicule.
