John Gruden out as Raiders coach

I'll give you a mulligan for completely whiffing on what I said.

I didn't argue against his firing. What I said was that it makes me sick that people are getting off on this whole situation. It's a sick culture of wanting to see people punished, regardless of whether they should be. He clearly should be. Never said otherwise.

...but why wasn't this done before now? Why didn't the Raiders or the NFL do something immediately instead of letting this fester? And why isn't anyone else asking that question
I think you quoted me in error. My post that you quoted was in response to Glenn. You and I have had no interaction in this thread until now.

I guess I'll give you a mulligan on it though. 😉

And I wasn't defending the NFL I was just saying how stupid can one person be to send that stuff on a work email. Anybody who works for a large company knows you don't email/IM anything off-color on your work email/IM. Let alone racist, homophobic comments and nude pictures. People get fired for this junk in the real world all the time he just happens to be a famous idiot.
Oh I agree 100% with you. I tell my kids every chance I get: emails, text, any form of social media is forever.

YES, BUT WHY 10 YEARS LATER? NOT DEFENDING GRUDEN.

For the hundredth time stated in this thread, the NFL was investigating the Washington Football Team, he came up in their investigation. They were not investigating the WFT 10 years ago. I know at my company it wouldn't take 10 years or 10 days, that sh!t would be flagged as soon as it was sent.

For all the people asking why they waited so long: THE NFL and THE RAIDERS just found out!

The NFL was doing an investigation into WFT, part of which required WFT to turn over records they are required by law to keep. During the unrelated investigation of these records, these emails by Gruden were discovered and made public. The Raiders are obviously going to do their due diligence in getting all necessary info before they fire him. They have to cover their asses as well from a financial standpoint.

We disagree on that, even thought I can't prove it. See my previous post about software looking for key words. I don't believe for a second that they didn't have that technology.
I've been working in IT for large companies for many years. They all have the ability to monitor/scan/flag all digital communication between employees using company resources. Most didn't actively monitor them, but it was there if needed. One of my earlier jobs when I handled individual systems I would get requests from HR to pull chat records and emails of people being accused of something or already in trouble and they were looking for a pattern of behavior. There is no doubt the NFL/ESPN/WTF has those capabilities, but I doubt any monitor them actively. At least not in 2011. Also, emails that old are probably in some kind of cold storage or non-active backups they are having to go through to find stuff. Takes more time than just opening Outlook and searching.

Yep. I fired a guy a couple of years ago for being blatantly racist and homophobic on his work IM chatting with one of his buddies outside the company. We found out about it because the company software caught the racial slurs. We can't have people saying crap like that using company resources while representing the company.

That said, why he was exposed is not really the point. He did it and deserves what he gets.
I'm not defending Gruden whatsoever. Never in my life would I have communicated that way. But why he is being exposed does matter. If it doesn't then why aren't they attempting to expose everybody they can? Why not ask to take up every player and organizational employee's cell phone records and search texts and personal emails if it's purely about eradicating people who have expressed things in a manner considered offensive to a group or groups?

It's all good, I have to catch myself from typing WTF instead of WFT when referring to them.
Yeah. Well, those were not WFT cheerleaders. They were Redskin cheerleaders. So, I was trying to think what in 2011 would be WFT, not thinking someone would woke backwards.

I don’t know people who send naked pictures via email, but I know a lot of people who look at naked pictures. Misogynists!!!

And it probably didn’t help he roasted the commissioner of the NFL as well. Reports were the league was pressuring the raiders to fire him. A good rule of thumb is don’t piss off the guy who either directly or indirectly signs your paychecks.

Nailed it. He pissed off the wrong piece of firewood. Witch hunt ensued. Having released them publicly rather than deal with this internally says a lot about the NFL offices

Let's ignore the comments for a second here. He sent nude pictures of WFT cheerleaders, likely without their consent, that's illegal. That's the kind of stuff that can land someone on a sex offender registry. And he did it on his work email.
Unless your last name is Biden. Hunter made explicit porn movies of himself smoking meth and having sex with girls, including some that appeared to be underage. And none of you GAF. They were on porn sites before the election until all the sudden, *poof* ... gone. Taken down and no mention by the media.

A little consistency would go a long way to help you virtue signalers establish your self perceived moral superiority.

Yes, that is my point. It would have been flagged as soon as it was sent. It was sent in 2011. It's 2021 when it comes out.

I guess ESPN didn't give a sh!t in 2011. He was working for them then and it came out in this recent investigation by the NFL. If you are not understanding it at this point I don't know what else I can tell you to help connect the dots.

I have a hard time not referring to them as the Washington F&&& T@@@@ my self. I can't wish them enough damage myself. I think they should be stripped of all draft picks for the next 20 years. It would only be fair.

I never said I didn't understand at the point. Just that they sat on it

As the face of a billion dollars corporation, ( which the Raiders are) Gruden can’t pull this shit and survive. I hate all the “wokeness” in our country but IMO that has very little to do with THIS. This stuff would have gotten him fired in the 70’s If you are the head guy you simply can’t do this kind of stuff and keep your job.

Thank you! Lol.

I know I clicked on a TOTALLY different post to reply to. Don't know what happened.

The two colleges I worked at had the ability to do it. Didn't do anything with it unless it was requested by HR.

Where I work now? I don't do anything on it that isn't 100% strictly work related because they track everything. Even if it's a harmless comment I'm either not sending it to anyone or doing it via text. The practice downstairs fired a bunch of people a few years ago for comments they were making on IM.

He "pulled this shit with ESPN" so it is ESPN that should be tied to the post with the firewood at their feet. THE NFL went about this wrong, but vendettas go that way sometimes. Wtf would they send 10yr old emails to the Raiders to ask them to do something they should have dealt with directly? Also, did they have the legal authority to make these emails public?

Why isn't ESPN losing access or facing any criticism or penalties?

What a cluster

F### the Footbal Team. If that's all the name change means to you then I suggest you hate me like Jon Gruden did.
Sorry guy I don't hate anyone and I'm sorry Jon Gruden hated you?

Jon Gruden hated you? This thing just gets weirder and weirder.
Sonny Jergouson hates me. Larry Brown hates me. Charley Taylor hates me. Dyron Talbert hates me. Ken Houston hates me. Joe Jacoby hates me. John Riggins hates me. I am good with all that as long as they hate the Football Team.

The man participated in an illegal coerced pornography scheme. Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets charged with some federal crimes here.

If you think that’s woke cancel culture run amok, you should seek some professional counseling.

You’re right but you also know that nobody in the media ever holds anyone else in the media world to the same standards as they do everyone else. They get to play by a different set of standards because the entire industry covers for one another.

I meant it didn't matter in the context of whether he should have been fired or not. Kinda like it doesn't really matter why I'm speeding, I'm still getting a ticket.

That said, I definitely have a suspicion that someone with a grudge leaked this to get rid of him. I'm sure he has plenty of enemies in the league office.
