John Gruden out as Raiders coach

I'm confused, what did Gruden say that was inaccurate? Maybe the racist part, I haven't seen that yet.

Let's ignore the comments for a second here. He sent nude pictures of WFT cheerleaders, likely without their consent, that's illegal. That's the kind of stuff that can land someone on a sex offender registry. And he did it on his work email.
Then they should get enough money out of the NFL for sitting on it for 10 years to put it out of business.

Apparently was sending nude cheerleader pics as well, over his WORK email. This man is a special kind of stupid.

Again, why anyone needs to see his emails to know that is kinda surprising to me. He's always been an arrogant ask. Always

Question is - why the Raiders didn't fire him or the NFL didn't fire him and fine the Raiders? I don't know many employers that don't have policies against these very practices. So why the delay? It seems pretty clear that the Raiders and the NFL were acting like folks that didn't want anyone looking through their emails... or maybe they were busy cleaning out their folders first?

Can somebody tell me what "WFT cheerleaders" are? I'm clueless I guess

I'd like to know more about these pics. Were they nudes that they sent to someone privately or did they pose for these pics professionally? In other words, were the pics already out in the world and he just shared them?

I'd also like to know where one can see these pics for...uhh...research purposes.

THe NFL wasn't sitting on it for 10 years. They discovered the emails as part of their investigation into the Washington Football Team.

Well 1) it was before he was a Raiders coach and 2) the emails were just recently discovered.

I believe a Washington executive made the cheerleaders take the photo at a team event. It was a pretty big story 5 years or so ago.

Yep. I fired a guy a couple of years ago for being blatantly racist and homophobic on his work IM chatting with one of his buddies outside the company. We found out about it because the company software caught the racial slurs. We can't have people saying crap like that using company resources while representing the company.

That said, why he was exposed is not really the point. He did it and deserves what he gets.

I'll give you a mulligan for completely whiffing on what I said.

I didn't argue against his firing. What I said was that it makes me sick that people are getting off on this whole situation. It's a sick culture of wanting to see people punished, regardless of whether they should be. He clearly should be. Never said otherwise.

...but why wasn't this done before now? Why didn't the Raiders or the NFL do something immediately instead of letting this fester? And why isn't anyone else asking that question

IF you want to call professionally "do this or you're fired" then yes they were done professionally.

We disagree on that, even thought I can't prove it. See my previous post about software looking for key words. I don't believe for a second that they didn't have that technology.

Oh wait... So was it in his private email or in his work email?

We've still seen this in the news for days so why the delay?

I’m sure there’s some people happy about it. Especially on twitter. I’ve seen more people upset about it than celebrating. Seems to me most on this board are more so commenting on his stupidity to send those emails at work.

Here is the one thing about this that stinks to high heaven for me. Companies have had software looking for key words in emails since well before 2011 that would get people fired. My boss got a call from HR about me around 2011 for something I put in an IM. My house got broken into and one of the things stolen was a gun. She was asking me what got stolen and I listed that among everything else. They never looked at context, just that the IM had the word gun in it. I got called out within 24 hours of sending that IM (nothing was done because once she explained context it was dismissed) I don't believe for a second that they didn't have the same software. If you sit on something for 10 years, you have an agenda. I'm not sure what there's was but they had one.

Bingo.

It's not just the happiness but just as much the rage and self-righteousness. It's sick and a symptom of a sick society.

They can search every work email I’ve ever sent and there wouldn’t be anything hateful or derogatory in there.

Mine has a lot of hateful stuff about my tech. I hate (_) autocorrect would be the leading offender....

It’s laughable that some of you are trying to defend this guy right now. I actually enjoyed Gruden quite a bit before all this, but to send this kinda shit over a work email is an all time f*** up.

He had a 10 year/100 mil contract and people are decrying woke culture over this? Give me a break. He has no business staying in the league and none of the players would have wanted to play for him. It’s over and he cost himself a LOT of money.

Who is defending him? I might have their responses blocked

I agree with you there. ESPN’s reaction will be funny as they’ll ignore the fact he was their employee when he sent these. I’m certainly not upset with Gruden. We’ve all said things we shouldn’t have and would like to remain private. Not all of us have engaged in sharing nude photos of women in a work email.

My issue is the people that act like this was an off color joke at a bar at 2am trying to get a laugh.

You probably have them blocked. Or they deleted comments. 2 or 3 of some of the earlier posts on this very thread are either deflecting or crying about woke culture. Twitter is also 50/50 it seems.

Edit: no they’re still there, and have some likes as well. I mean it is what it is people are allowed to have an opinion even if it’s objectively dumb.

The emails weren't illegally obtained. It is part of the NFL's investigation into the Washington Football Team. The NFL is the one that acquired and released the emails.

I thought I heard about it before the official release by the NFL. Still makes me wonder why the NFL didn't take measures of their own sooner.

I can say with 100% certainty I have never discussed another man's lips via email nor have I espoused racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments via email, much less work email.
I have not paid attention to this story, but is calling another dude a “pussy” misogynistic? If so, I don’t think I know a guy who has not at some time called another guy a pussy.

I'm old enough to remember when people were held responsible for their actions it was called personal accountability, and it was generally widely accepted.

Now when it's white people (largely) being held responsible for hateful, damaging, archaic (and in some cases illegal) behavior and all of a sudden it's woke cancel culture run amok!

Right. He should have rapped them and then he could have done the Super Bowl halftime show.

Edit: not defending Gruden, just pointing out the hypocrisy of the NFL.

And I wasn't defending the NFL I was just saying how stupid can one person be to send that stuff on a work email. Anybody who works for a large company knows you don't email/IM anything off-color on your work email/IM. Let alone racist, homophobic comments and nude pictures. People get fired for this junk in the real world all the time he just happens to be a famous idiot.

Yea I don’t think that is a huge deal personally. He’s dumb for calling the NFL commissioner that lol.

It's more than just that. He railed against the NFL hiring female referees and sent nude photos of WFT cheerleaders.

YES, BUT WHY 10 YEARS LATER? NOT DEFENDING GRUDEN.
