This morning, John Calipari confirmed that there’s still a possibility another player will join next year’s roster, and although he couldn’t mention names, anyone with two eyes and two ears knows he’s talking about Jamal Murray. Coincidentally, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello put out an article this morning breaking down Murray’s recruitment. In it, Murray’s father, Roger, tells ESPN that his son is on track to reclassify to 2015. “Technically, if he wanted to reclassify tomorrow, I think he could,” Murray Sr. said.
Okay, so if he wants to reclassify, where will he go? Even though Murray is used to be playing point guard and technically, UK already has two of those on the roster in Tyler Ulis and Isaiah Briscoe, his father says that’s not an issue:
“He’s good with or without the ball,” Roger Murray said of his son. “There are going to be adjustments anywhere you go. We’re not one-dimensional.”
Not a ton of new news in this article other than an anonymous coach talking about how good Murray is, but it’s always interesting to read comments from Murray’s father. This quote about the impact Oregon sophomore Dillon Brooks, a fellow Canadian and one of Murray’s friends, will have on his recruitment seems telling to me.
“Everything is a factor,” he said. “Jamal and Dillon are good friends. But whatever decision we make is not for now; it’s for the long-term effect.”
Seven UK players could be drafted next week. Long-term effect = Kentucky effect?
