How in gods green earth was the GT player ruled out of bounds?

...
Now, what I have a problem with is Baity and/or our coaches, allowing them to run the same play twice, which allowed them to get into that position. Everyone and their brother knew that GT had to throw something to the sideline with 0 timeouts. Everyone except the UK staff and Baity. They did it twice and rather than be there to make a play, we gave them the wide open pass twice!

So, if you and everyone in the stadium, along with both staffs, knew they were going to run the same out route and Stoops told Baity to sit on the out then GT decided to run an out and up then what?

You'd be screaming at Stoops for being so dumb to let them get behind us and score a walk in TD with no time left on the clock - that's what.

With the big lead going into the 4th, Tech did the gentlemanly thing and just tried to run out the clock. We went totally vanilla on offense and just handed it to the fullback up the middle.

You guys wanted to make it a game to your credit and scored 2 touchdowns in garbage time including a 2 point conversion. At that point, it was an 8 point lead. Calling it a one possession game is a stretch as 2 point conversions are low percentage. Everyone knew that it was highly doubtful you could have pulled it off with the time remaining even if GT didn't score again (which they did).
Wow.

I would most definitely risk that with 6 seconds left.

On the first play, with 10 seconds left Tech has a 3 wide receiver set. It looks to me like UK is playing a rather strange defense for the situation. It is 3rd and 10 and Tech has no timeouts, and they need a minimum of 6 yards to get into FG range, but if they only get into FG range and don't get the 1st down then the half is over. They really cannot run the ball. This is directly after a timeout. UK has 5 guys around the line of scrimmage, 3 down linemen with Allen and Ware standing. Allen blitzes (rather slowly) while Ware falls back into coverage. Love and Jones are both in the formation and both drop into coverage. Westry is on the side with the slot and is 9 yards off of the receiver. Baity is on the opposite side and is 8 yards off the receiver and backpedaling at the snap. No one is directly over the slot receiver and I am not sure if anyone actually ever picks him up. Looks like he may be wide open down the seam. Baity backs up about 4-5 yards past the line of scrimmage and then breaks on the ball when thrown. Pass hits off receiver's hands to be incomplete and give them 6 seconds.

On the second attempt Tech lines up in the exact same formation. Kentucky is playing an extremely similar formation with Baity about 7 yards off the ball. Westry cannot be seen on the replay, but looks to be about 10 yards off the ball, behind the first down marker. Our safeties are pushing 20 yards deep. Tech looks to run the exact same play and Kentucky defends it the exact same way. Baity drops back 15 yards and gives up the first down. Remember... this is on 4th freaking down!!

Also, you don't necessarily have to jump or sit on the out route, you could just play a tighter coverage and shade the receiver to the inside and force them to make a throw to the middle of the field away from the boundary. If you do that then you might have the ability to actually tackle them in the field of play and have time run out.

All in all, it was extremely dumb, IMO, for UK not to be in nickel defense, especially on 4th down. That was the first mistake. The second one, was that we didn't play a tighter coverage on the edges and we basically begged Tech to throw an out and get out of bounds, which they almost did TWICE!!

Another interesting thing to note is that when I go back and I look at the actual replay of the play where Tech calls their final timeout... it doesn't really look like Johnson ever signals for a timeout. Instead, he is laying into one of his offensive linemen. He is kind of putting his hands together, but he isn't near a ref and isn't really signaling for it as much as he just looks to be irritated at his offensive lineman for missing a block in space. Still, they put 5-8 seconds back on the clock for him.

lol, the extra point is always there as part of the possession which is why ALL the announcers call an 8 point lead a one possession game.

But, from reading your posts it is obvious you are much smarter than those guys.

Well imagine if the BS call at the end of the first half didn't happen? That 8 point lead is then a 6 point lead. And calling an 8 point lead a one possession game is by no means a 'stretch' especially when you have Benny snell in the backfield. Don't get me started with the multiple targeting penalties y'all got away with and the BS holding call when we intercepted the ball on your first drive. Refs wanted y'all to have it and they chose the winner. It was obviously predetermined.
