The new-hire first officer on my fleet is a nightmare. It took him 50 hours to get through Initial Operating Experience. Worse yet, talking to his instructor, out of his 25 landings in the simulator, 15 ended up in the dirt. Not one of them was on the centerline of the runway. They said his radio work is like that of a private pilot. He has no situational awareness.
Another crazy story! Older, experienced employee thinks younger new employee is stupid and doesn’t know what they’re doing. But when they first started I’m sure they were just the tits…

Captain Sully thinks this is bullshit.

This is where we're headed with air travel:

On February 24, 2009, Sullenberger testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Aviation of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure that his salary had been cut by 40 percent, and that his pension, like most airline pensions, was terminated and replaced by a PBGC guarantee worth only pennies on the dollar.[65] He cautioned that airlines were "under pressure to hire people with less experience. Their salaries are so low that people with greater experience will not take those jobs. We have some carriers that have hired some pilots with only a few hundred hours of experience. ... There’s simply no substitute for experience in terms of aviation safety."[66]

Oh... poor Sully. Salary got cut 40% in 2009 when the entire economy was falling apart. Besides, this freed up money for stuff like this!

I mean, UKO spent multiple posts defending the mid range jumper.

[laughing] [laughing] [laughing]

That’s just completely ignoring math, innovation, and modern basketball. Probably thinks baseball games are still won on sacrifice bunts, too.

You know who led the country in 2P and 2PA last year while shooting 55% from 2P range?
They were 8th in FTA
They were 3rd in total rebounds.
They were 83rd in 3PA.
Kansas.
It's called efficiency, as I told you the first time. You need a definition?

This lesson is free...the next one will cost ya.

Kansas shot a lot of shots within 5ft of the basket. Didn't shoot, or hit, at near the rate outside of the paint except for their sweet spot for 3s.

Only a moron would not understand this.

Air raid warning going off and weather porn saying tornado around Morganfield heading towards Henderson. Guess I should wrap up the fishing trip since I’ve previously sunk my boat in a tornado. Wasn’t going to make it to the dock so pulled onto the beach to hunker down. Picked the wrong side to beach it and watched as it was bouncing down the bank with 5’ waves flooding it while hanging onto a tree dodging debris. Fun times.

You would get ejected for showing up the opponent if you did the Kemp dunk now, at least a tech which is a joke a man can’t make fun of another man getting paid millions of dollars to play sports.

- 2022 Kansas took 28% of their shots from midrange, good for 148th in the country.

- 2022 Kentucky took 38.7% of shots from midrange (10th). 2023 Kentucky takes 36.5% of shots from midrange (10th again).

- here are some FG% of our top 4 takers from midrange:

Toppin 38.5% (156 attempts)
Reeves 38.7% (119 attempts)
Oscar 36.6% (112 attempts)
Wallace 38.4% (99 attempts)

-The reason we settle for jump shots is because that's what the defense gives us. We're rarely able to force our offense on a team. We take what we're given. To out rebound a team, shoot like 20 more free throws, and still lose is bananas. This team runs from physical d and when we're pressed out our coach adds bigs rather than guards.

-Gotta gut one out tomorrow. I don't see it with Cal vs Muss, it's just a mismatch too big to overcome these days. Hopefully, Vern can quote this tomorrow evening in glory.

-I guess with the recent disasters in the state I understand letting the kids out. Besides, since when has "out of an abundance of caution" caused any issues? Er...

-Winds aren't good but I just worship a spring/summer thunderstorm.

-We're moving into "sleepover" age with the quickness. Such a conundrum. As a kid, it's literally the best times of my childhood. Not even close. But, man, having several boys running around like banshees until 3a is just going to be a sumbitch. Vets, please advise.

-Double life and still 99 charges outstanding. Ring em up. Several think he offs himself but I don't think so. This dude is the ultimate narcissist.

-To piggy back off SAE. With Nate Oats becoming more toxic by the game, Pearl is moving up there on my board. Has a F4, plenty left in the tank, plays a fun style, tons of fire, would thrive with the other side of the job. Only hang up is his son.

-Haven't gone to an adult movie in a long time but may switch that up with John Wick 4. Pumped. Get an uber, sip some bourbs, recline in style at that badass lexlive megatheater. Sounds like a good time.

-Also, that Succession trailer. Shew doggie.

Why is everything shutting down for this weather?

Schools
UK
Businesses
Some employee just left Drakes because “the storm”
People texting me to ask if the gym will be open

It’s like tornadoes are guaranteed and everyone wants to be at home with loved ones to die today.

Oh, so UKO was completely clueless and ignorant while trying to make one of his bullshit contrarian points, but instead confirming for the 1000th time he's a complete buffoon when it comes to sports inside the lines?

NO WAY!

-There are a LOT of people (and entire communities) in this state who've had their lives upended by Wind, Tornadoes, Flood in the past year after a few unprecedented weather events from which the state will be recovering from for years to come...hard for me to blame anyone for being extra cautious.

The NWS in Paducah recorded their lowest pressure in history earlier on this 2nd line coming through.

That’s a good point.

I guess I’m just used to Florida I guess and you see the hurricane coming. No one really gives a ish until you know it’s coming for you like 1-2 days beforehand.

But yeah this state has been pummeled the last few years and of course the poorest parts.

I really like the fact KSR & @MattJonesKSR do charity stuff now because they make it so easy because they make it super easy to donate and I’m pretty sure it’s 100% to the people that need it not like 12% as some “charity” organizations do.

Apparently a tornado touched down somewhere near the Paducah area. I’m in the Midtown area and had extremely high winds but no real damage, yet. However, school was not called off.

We just got hit with a confirmed tornado. Had 70-80 mph winds after getting the boat loaded that was unnerving. Pushed the envelope a bit too much today.

Rogue, no closing here yet we just got hit. Hopefully no schools or kids were damaged or hurt. Being cautious is nothing to mock.

I'm not sure of the dynamics in the Anth house, but here's my approach:
  1. At 11 PM, have your lovely and pleasant wife sweetly tell the boys to settle down.
  2. At midnight, have your lovely and pleasant wife tell them 'lights out'
  3. At 1 AM, you go in there and scream at the kids to STFU or you'll send their asses home and ground your son until eternity
I've found this to be pretty effective.

Sleepovers are a necessity. There’s your starting point. My wife apparently was never allowed to have any as a kid and it stunted her emotional maturity imo, so I’m all in on letting my kids have them. They get the basement and do whatever it is they do (starting to get to the age where I do a count of the beers in the basement fridge first…) and I stay on the main floor to keep them from coming up. Around midnight I start with the “hey why don’t we give the Nerf hoop a rest and do something on TV” and then usually try for a lights out a little after that. As long as I can’t hear them it’s fine. The girls usually all crap out. The boys try to stay up the whole night. Either way they’re zombies the next day, basement smells like pizza and farts, and memories are made.
