I don’t get starstruck often, but Michael Shannon who played Mr. Green in my favorite Christmas romp “The Night Before” is filming a movie in NKY/Cincinnati with Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, etc. and was at Blink this weekend.

If I see Mr. Green, I will just die. 🤩
He is also from Lexington. He was great in Boardwalk Empire.

Streaming recommendation - discovered that "Storm of the Century," the Stephen King miniseries from 1999, is available on Hulu. Easily one of the scariest, most well-done miniseries I've seen. Another King miniseries, "Rose Red" is also outstanding, but I've yet to find it streaming anywhere.

Akikos was something else. Bonzo's dad had to pick his brother and I up there a couple of times in the middle of the night. He hit the stage more than I did, but "Living in America" was my go-to in the mid-2000's. Tried to always include a lot of pelvic thrusting.

We were there one night and the power had gone out or something and they were just selling premade shots in little plastic cups out of a cooler. It was never the plan at the beginning of the night, but was always fun when we ultimately ended up there.

No- taking a baby on that kind of trip is not ideal by any stretch. But its a trip we had planned in the covid year and we had to go now or lose out on money/vouchers we had. So it was planned before we even had a kid, and before my wife was even pregnant. We questioned whether or not to take her- but i've never been away from her for a night so over a werk would have been impossible. We did bring help- which was the only way it was manageable.

Have 4 Friday Breeders Cup tickets for face if anyone is interested before they go on sale to the public. Opting to just go on Saturday. They are Clubhouse Reserved Seats.

Afternoon playoff baseball is nice background noise during the workday.

Started watching Industry.... a bit slow. Yasmin, though.

What was the name of the cover band at Pheonix Hill, the singer reminded me of RATTS lead singer? Seemed like they played their for a couple decades.

Pygmies are great, we should have them play an Extravaganza
Best export from Dixie Highway?

They were playing our fraternity parties in the early 90’s before Clark and I showed up and still headlining spots like The War Eagle Supper Club in Auburn, Rhythm & Brews in Tuscaloosa (*sniff* what up Tom Arnold), and other Phoenix Hill-like places across the south. An SEC tailgate fits the bill.

Just get a platform setup on the basketball court, some Coors banquets for the drummer and tell the neighbors there’s going to be a ton of cougars roaming Montclair before the Louisville game.

Let’s talk some hoop. What’s your non-Kentucky preseason takes?

- I think UNC probably should be #1 based upon previous results and roster but I’m not completely sold Hubie didn’t catch a little lightning in a bottle for 30 days.

- Love the make up of Baylor and Houston. Especially excited to watch the freshmen George and Walker.

- Think Virginia makes a big comeback into the Top 5-10.

- Zags will be tough again.

- Not really buying Kansas (lost too much) or Duke (don’t love their perimeter, tad lopsided roster) as elite.

- Love Tennessee which shouldn’t surprise anyone considering I’m a big Vol fan. Bama and Arkansas after them in the SEC.

- Think Nova falls off.

- Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa to be better than expected.

The first time I saw the Velcro Pygmies was literally 25 years ago -- freshman year, 1997. Lambda Chi Alpha had their Watermelon Bash and the Pygs were playing in their old fraternity house in the 6-pack. At one point, one of the brothers showed off a stunt referred to as the "land shark," or something like that. He came running downstairs butt ass nekkid with a triangular piece of cardboard (referred to as a "fin") sticking out of his rump, and proceeded to crowd surf.

It was great.

Virginia got a transfer from Ohio, 6'8" Ben VanderPlas. Talented kid, can shoot, pass and create offense from the PF spot. Had at least one if not two triple doubles last year. My kid goes to Ohio and have watched a couple games there, be interested to see if he was just MAC good or if it translates to ACC. He played on the OU team that beat Va in the tournament with the Preston kid drafted by the Clippers.

Prolly Chief, landsharking.

- The key for Virginia will be the play of 12th-year point guard Kihei Clark.

- Haven't really done a deep dive into CBB yet, but it does seem that of the teams on the fringe of the rankings, UConn is a little bit undervalued.

- Enjoyed the ride with Cleveland until they just ran out of gas against a better Yankees team. Think a Yanks/Phils WS would provide the ideal number of cold weather shots of nervous fans, as well as a healthy dose of vitriol between two cities who probably hate each other.

- Probably already been said, but it's great that the B/W game is in EKY this year. As easy as it is to find tickets to scrub OOC games, there's no real reason to insist on having it at Rupp. Just move it around between the different parts of the state.

- A performer was *literally* tackled during his open mic comedy set at some place in Louisville last night. Boom.

The Velcro Pygmies were playing around Louisville in 1990/1991 time frame. At some point in the early 90s they released an album of all original songs. I saw them open for someone (I think the Pixies but I could be wrong) at Vandy at Memorial Gym around 1992ish and their original music was AWFUL.

I like Depaul w/ Cummings and Aguirre but the possibility of an early exit looms w/ their lack of depth.

I guess it was because I took a hiatus from all things CBB, but I missed that Miller went back to X. That's kind of crazy to think about.

I'm just happy we have 2 warm up games before the Championship Classic. The whole stepping into that right out of the gate was pretty crap.

-Days of live bands at the Extrav are behind us. At least if it's in the backyard. Doubt they'd like the roving clan of 40+ 4-8 year olds destroying their setup.

-First saw VP in Gulf Shores Spring Break 2001... iirc. Ended up hanging with them for a bit after the show. Last saw them with Bonz at PH, IIRC, that dude fanboys out over Pussy Whipped.

-Bellarmine ranked top 3 college... in Kentucky. So, you know, kind of a big deal.

-Akiko's has always been amazing. We found that place early on Sophomore year, before we were 21, and it was a goldmine. They just didn't give a shit about IDs. I watched people pass IDs back multiple times in a row, girls use guys ID, etc. We'd basically finish there every bar night. It made it at least through my time in college before they kind of cracked down. Fairly certain that blue sake drink was just windex.

-Chad clamoring for colder weather is exactly why you fat ankles can't be trusted. Weather has been near perfect for like 2 months straight and dude wants it colder. Heck off, dude.

-About halfway though Silicon Valley. What a great series. Not sure how I missed it on the first run. Monica 😍

Was that in Louisville or live at the Apollo?

- These sick kids of mine are pissing me off. I have a horrible sore throat, my kid got sent home because she had a couple pimples but they thought it might be a rash, constant coughing. I mean JFC it’s not even winter yet FFS.

-it’s too early on the bball season. Feel like I can’t predict who will do what until a month in, other than predicting us to cut down the nets of course.

-Looks like I might be going to the championship classic. Last one I went to was when we played Zion and the dukies. Though I don’t expect a similar outcome I plan on getting black out drunk again just in case.

-this weather blows but switching back to scotch and bourbon, lighting the fire at night, and having good sports on tv is phenomenal. These next couple months are very enjoyable before the shit sandwich of January and February.

* Philly is going to win this GD thing  Loser fanbase and an inhabitable city that should be a nuclear test site for the coming wars. Touch Bryce Harper and his f@ggy ass hair...

...having said that they have the same makeup as the Nats in '19. They stumble into the playoff as the last wild card. Everyone thinks they won't be around for a ham sandwich and next thing you know they're spraying locker room champs three times in October.

* Shut down the economy. Print money uncontrollably. Forgive swaths of debt. Forfeit energy independence. Bankroll a country has us looking at 100% certainty of recession next year 🥰. Or for those with limited socioeconomic understanding -> F*ck around and find out.

* NBA has no business starting mid-October. Hang back until Xmas day and have the playoffs run through the end of June. Would provide something other than baseball in the early throes of summer.

* Haven't seen a standup comic in ages, but they are an underrated great time out. Need to hit up Comedy Caravan the next time Carlin or Kinison or the Dice Man headline.

* Wouldn't be mad if Hyatt suffered a high ankles sprain this weekend.

-We'll see what Mike Woodson is all about this season, b/c IU has a really good/experienced roster, anchored by a legit AA. No excuses for that dude, and they'll lose the bulk of their core after the season.

Hood-Schifino is the best freshman guard they've had since Yogi - kid can play.

-CBS Kyle Boone's article claiming we're the most underrated team in America was interesting.

-Nice to have Hoops back on TV. The depth of the better NBA teams is incredible these days.

-Steph 😍

Everything I know about Louisville came from this thread. Couple gems I know about thanks to the last couple days...

1. Jerry Green and Friends. HOLEE SHIT. What a thing.
2.
Open Mic at the abandoned Cracker Barrel. Another thing.

UK Basketball not having enough bodies to even practice. A whole nother thing. Again.

As a person who likes keeping expectations low and leaving people “above” me baffled when I choose to overachieve, I get a ton of satisfaction when those that are “above” me see a glimpse “damn that guy is smarter than I thought”.
