-nicholasville is fine. Pretty redneck and pretty corrupt...just like all small towns in ky. Danville/Versailles are a little nicer...but nowhere near as nice as their residents perceive them to be. They're not "Stars Hollow"*, that is delusional.

-the only way I'd live in a small town in KY is to have significant (30+) acreage and be a minimum of a few miles from "town".

-that said Jess co public schools are getting much better and sadly will surpass fcps in the near future. Tried to push segunda(sorry ron) to private for high school... wouldn't have it.

*Lauren Graham is the truth, btw.

I've made no bones about my feelings concerning FCPS. It's an abject disaster. (that said, there a several really good individual schools, in spite of the district's best efforts to ruin them. Equity and what not (rolleyes)

School system is only as good as the parents. If they care, are involved, the better. That means helping their kids, helping their teachers.

Any pretentious tech nerd suggestions for a new TV? Amazon Fire a good choice? I have no idea.

Like everything else, school system talk is mostly a pecker contest between the parents.*

(*) I first learned the brilliant phrase “pecker contest” watching the awful 80s sci-fi movie D.A.R.Y.L. when I was 7.

No school can overcome horrible/uninvolved parents.

We spend so much money and hot air, trying to solve the "learning gap" when it has almost nothing to do with teacher pay, district budgets, technology etc.

The biggest factor, and it is proven fact, that determines how a minority child will do in school and life is whether or not there is an involved father.

Take a look at how black children have fared since the Federal government started incentivizing absentee fathers in the early 70's

-100% agree.

-the reality is the size of student body/admin gets to a point that involved parents and good teachers can't offset the bad stuff. While it's true that "it is what you make it" there is a tipping point.

^involved parents have nothing to do with curriculum/over crowding/the degeneration of society...I know many who have stopped "pushing the rope" and moved their kids to private. Wife and I were close to doing so this year...and we've always been big public school proponents.

You can get a 50” TCL smart TV for like $35 these days. Not sure any advanced technology has diminished in pricing like televisions. I remember spending $2800 on a 46” in 2006 that looked like you were watching tv from underwater.

I think I saw a stat where if you combine 1 parent + renter and the % goes above 50%, the school is doomed....Boone County is that school.

No shit. It's wild, I got a 75" TCL 4k for Like $999. Since I'm not 65 years old everything is streaming and it has Roku built in. Dope.

TV’s are subsidized by marketers. Once you connect your “smart” TV to the internet, it tracks everything that is shown on the screen and sends the information back nightly.

We use Apple TV 4K, Vizio Smart TV, and Fire Stick 4K. I like Apple TV 4K the best, by far (obvs.).

For a TV, I would go with an OLED: LG CX.

My 12 yr old Samsung 48” old school 1080 LCD beats the crap out of recently purchased TCL QLED 4K model in terms of picture quality and can be viewed from any angle in the room without loss of said quality…the TCL looks like shit from anywhere but straight dead on. How did we lose this technology?

Kentucky has a law that might be somewhat similar to whatever Banchero is charged with. Very, very rare to ever see it charged however:

KRS 189.530(1): No person shall provide a motor vehicle to another to operate upon a highway, knowing that the other person is in an intoxicated condition, or under the influence of any substance which may impair one's driving ability.

If you want a really good tv, LG C1 Oled or Samsung Qn90a, depending on your viewing environment.

If you don’t care if it’s good or not, just grab a cheap one.

if you want to do a tiny bit of research go to rtings.com

I stream all my tv with the exception of whatever sports are on local cable via digital satellite. It’ll buffer occasionally and broadcast slower than cable but I still don’t ever miss anything. If tcl/Roku is selling my viewing habits I’m fine with that. I’m a redneck from jessamine county that watches sec football/mlb and Yellowstone. I’m probably already getting whatever ads those garner anyway.

- Competed for the 8th time on Saturday and had my first ever perfect day. 9/9 on my attempts, ended with a 450 squat, 200 bench (FINALLY) and a 420 (nice) deadlift for a 1070 total in the 181 weight class, which is 70 lbs on my total from last October and almost 6x bodyweight. Easily my best and most fun meet to date. I hit absolutely huge PRs across the board and these numbers set me up for a couple lifetime lifting goals, with several likely in the cards for my next meet in April 2022. Plus, I qualified for pro day of a meet I've wanted to do since I got into the sport. A whole lot of "why we do this."

In related news, I could sleep for a week and a half straight.

- I missed the game Friday night because I had to go to sleep at grandma hours, but seeing Damion Collins' murderous dunk first thing as I got ready to lift was a pretty excellent pump-up. It doesn't beat the WCS dunk against UC in 2015, because that guy definitely got PTSD, but shew.

- Finally caught up with the rest of the world and started You. Feels weird to cheer for a stalker, but also, maaaaaaaaaan, F Peach Salinger.

- I want Reed but I don't want to get him to suffer the John Calipari treatment. I'll still be thrilled when/if he commits.

- happy Monday gyero.
Where do you go to see the state bench press record for your weight class. Also how do you document your attempt to break the record? I have googled a few times but don’t think I have found a clear answer to either. Thanks in advance!

*The music in Yellowstone is underrated. The Colter Wall intro Sunday night was perfect.

*Bought a TV on a Black Friday sale over the weekend. a 70 inch TV for less than half of the 42 inch TV i bought a few years ago. I dont care too much about refresh rate or other stuff, tbh. Its mostly going to play cartoons, I assume.

*Piss mad

I got a really cheap Vizio last year and it sucks ass and keeps f*cking up so not that brand. Samsung or LG seem good quality and are still cheap as hell from costco

The cop that charged those dudes must’ve been a UNC fan - Ks grandkid and their best player, nicely done

Like Joey said all the cheap Roku TV's are subsidized by ads. There are ads on the main menu, ads on the screensaver, and special "themes" for certain movies and TV shows.

That being said all of my TV's are cheap Roku TV's and the ads don't change my viewing experience in the slightest.

That largely depends on what federation you're competing in. I just did an APF meet, so to check records, start with the federation's website and then the meet director will usually say "if you're attempting a new American/world record blah blah tell us before you attempt" and then you do the lift and the judges certify it. Typically. Open Powerlifting collects all meet results from all feds, worldwide, and has a list of the current rankings and current ATWRs, too. A friend of mine broke her own ATWR squat on Saturday and that will be reflected at both links once the results are sent out.

- This is a kybobcat thing to post, but uh, y'all ever hear of Brass Against? Pretty good cover band, actually, and set to open for Tool, but um, can't say I'm particularly anxious to go to a live show at this point.

I'd good with TV commercials. 😉

It's basically like I said, if you're a TV/Gaming nerd, the cheap Roku TVs aren't going to cut. But for regular people they're great. Haven't had any angle issues with mine as I don't attempt to watch anything from a 60-90 degree angle. My couch is in front of my TV.
