GOLF thread

So, i heard this recently and thought it was an excellent point. Tiger and Bobby Jones are tied with 9 USGA Championships, i am sure he would like to win a US Senior Open to have that one on his own.

Well, considering Jones retired at age 28, I seriously doubt anyone is going to care if Tiger gets one more than him, or the fact he is tied.

Interesting. He didn't use to think that way, but I guess he has missed out on so much that he looks at it differently. He's friends with Stricker, Couples, etc. so I guess it make sense. I won't watch it.
We all change as we get older. Tiger loves the game and competing too much. He knows all of the guys on the Champions Tour and being able to ride a cart gives him what he needs to continue to compete at a high level. He is going to make a priceless impact on that Tour when he arrives. Ratings will be through the roof as long as he is competitive.

Massive LIV turnout in Australia.
Watching PGA Tour as we speak. Probably watch some LPGA major golf later. Didn’t know LIV was playing this week but good on them mate for drawing some crowds down under. How would one watch if they wanted too? YouTube?

Congrats for having 5 hours to kill watching a round of golf. Hope they get the front nine over with before your dinner.

lol, hilarious. It's like Kansas owning the winningest school in D1 though they've played a couple of hundred more games than us.

Tiger is a piece of trash human being. Him eclipsing Jones would be a sad day.

Leishman Lager. Little segment about it on LIV. Man's having the time of his life and has his own beer. All proceeds from his beer go to a charity.

Pure class.

All these PGA tournament winners are going to have to put an * by the winner's name since the best LIV players in the world didn't get to compete. How can you have a real champion when you're excluding the best players?

I’m probably a 10 or 12 handicap. Tempo has been abysmal lately. Finally, today, I put it almost all together and had the round of my life, and I’m disappointed still. 73 (par 71) and missed 10 birdie putts and lipped out a par putt on 18. So much left out there. I love golf usually.

Your real disappointment will come on your next round when you are back to the low to mid 80’s. Can never wait to play again after a round where things finally clicked. Don’t think ever clicked twice in succession (for me at least. 73 is strong work. Congrats on a great round.

A double digit handicapper shooting a 73 would get shot where I play, lol.

Great round.

Lol, whatever. Best players aren't all on LIV.

Only 1 player in the current world top 25 is LIV....so you're dismissed.

Best tourney of the weekend was the Chevron, pretty funny the winner jumped into the lake after the playoff win, had to be cold as hell.

OT: Another Barbasol alum (Davis Riley) won the New Orleans tournament. Was told last week by club owner that the PGA wants to stay at Champions, but needs a name sponsor. If the new sponsor is based somewhere else, it may well move, but if the sponsor is pretty much national/international, the PGA is pretty happy with the event as is.

Always cool to see someone get their first W, and the exemptions that accompany it, and seeing it change the lives of two players was awesome.

I love the Barbasol, but truly wish it was at another course in the area, simply on the basis of total course access for the fans. Imo...Kearney is the best course in the area for a tournament of this caliber, and allowing the fans easy access to both nine's. The seniors loved it there, and it was a shame to have lost it over sponsor $$.

The No Laying Up guys and Monday Q Info guys say these storylines should be hyped up on the non-elevated events.
What does making the cut mean for points, exemptions?
Who is up for conditional exempt status?
Who is playing on a waiver?
Etc.

I spoke to our club manager on that very point. There is an access point to the back 9 in front of #11 tee. But I agree that is a problem. Ought to be pretty easy to fix in my opinion even if you have t move fans with shuttles

But you have that same problem any course where there is real estate development.

I like Kearney too but it is never in very good shape city doesn't spend near enough money on it

I watched this weekend and was kind of shocked to see some of the LPGA women was only carrying the ball 230-235 with their driver. Obviously that isn't with roll and isn't some of the longer hitters but my daughter is in the 8th grade and unless she makes poor contact she can carry it 200 or so.

It was cold and windy there though that doesn't help

Good points. I have also heard of an idea that non-exempt players (no status, wins, etc) could have tournaments within the tourney for special spiffs (entrance to the next 3 events, for example, extra $10K, whatever) Kinda like how the Masters has their top amateur running.

I'll give LIV their due. Their top talent has played great, DJ, Koepka, Gooch with 2 wins and Smith/Reed with one.
Further, they have also carded more top 3's and 10's than anyone, earning their money. While the overall quality of tournament fields has been poor, they have shined.

They have had some colossal flops in Bryson and Mickelson. Even with Stenson's win last year, he only averaged 20th place out of 48 regulars.

They have had some disappointing play in Leishman, Kokrak, Ancer, Varner and Ooosty.

Their younger players need to pick up slack in Wolff, Ortiz, Munoz, Lahiri. To be fair, some have played well but need wins.

We knew Bubba, Poulter, Westy, Garcia and even Casey were past their prime and they have played like it.

They are a top heavy league with little depth. 29 of 68 invited players could not sniff a top 10 last year.

To give you an idea, only 2 in top 100 on PGA do not have a top 10, and 7 in top 125. The competition is better.

It really is incredible how far Bryson and his popularity (long ball) has dropped in such a short period of time.

He'll be a fat dude swinging for the fences on the long drive tour after they scale back the distance of the tour balls.

Had the rare opportunity to play a practice round this AM, because it was gloomy and threatening to rain at any minute so the course was nearly empty. . . but the rain held off all day! Hit all kinds of practice shots and finished in 2 1/2 hours, a great way to practice, IMO, way better than just banging balls on the range and doing putting drills (which bore me to death in about ten minutes, don't see how anyone practices putting for two hours).

Think I had a "EUREKA" moment as well (figured out that I was not releasing my hands through the impact zone, leading to a lot of high weak fades), in short, was a fine use of a free morning.

I enjoy playing by myself once every two weeks or so. Play early, play fast but still get the opportunity to practice all the phases of the game w/o banging balls on the range or putting for an hour - hate that.

You do realize don't you, that your handicap is not how many strokes over par you usually shoot? So if you average say a 82, then you aren't a 10 handicap, you are probably more like a 6 or 7.
Essentially, your handicap is how many over par you can shoot "on a good day". The calculation uses the best 10 rounds of your last 20, and then is a % of that over par adjusted for slope.

So if you are a 10 or 12, then you usually probably shoot in the mid-upper 80's.
I think the lowest I've ever gotten mine is to a 20, and I've only ever shot <20 over par 3-4 times (I don't think any of them in the same year).

I'd like to see a tournament where the pro's use old-school clubs and balls. Stuff from the 70's if not older. So persimmon woods, etc....
