Was anyone watching the tournament yesterday? John Cook was talking about a rule change that affected it yesterday but I never figured out what he was talking about.

Thompson had a long birdie putt on 17. Like 50 feet. He chose to putt it with the flag in, and it hit the stick and bounced off. The announcer thought it was in if the flag was pulled. I’m not convinced as it still had quite a bit of speed. That shot was the difference. There was no penalty but simply a decision to not pull the flag.

Cawood,

Have you played this course yet? I have several times. Wanted you’re opinion if so.

Greens are difficult but great shape. I don’t think there’s enough character at the course to push it past courses such as Heritage Hills and Dale Hollow, but it is in great shape.
No but I’m gonna try to play it this year. Heard good things.

I am old school, I take the flag out unless I am going to hold up play, i.e., the other guys want it left in.

We will never know whether his putt would have dropped, but it sure looked like it would have to me.

Personally, the best reason to leave it in is for judging the distance, but it seems like the only way it helps you actually make the putt (or chip) is if you hit it way too hard, and it happens to hit dead straight on and drop, otherwise, it is entirely likely to deflect the putt out of the hole, like it did yesterday.

Listen I’ve was reading this board pre Randolph Morris fax. That’s almost 20 years. Not once have you ever made anything that resembles a good point or post. So I expected nothing else, dork.

Cawood, it’s a nice course. I just like Shady Hollow better and it’s half the price. Played it?
No, I haven’t played that one either. Most of my golf has been in Lex, Richmond, Gtown, Louisville, Northern Ky.

Anyone have good golf trips on the books this year? Couple big ones for me as finally being an empty nester opened up some cash.

Augusta practice round (still in shock I was drawn) 3 rounds around Atlanta prior to heading over. Hoping to meet John Daly at Hooters

Scotland - Old Course, New Course, Kingsbarn, Carnoustie, and will play 1-2 more depending on local feedback or tee time availability

Fall trip TBD

I leave it in now every time. Have only had 1 putt that the pin kept from going in (maybe 40 rounds). I find it helps me a lot on any putt that’s not totally straight. Helps me focus on the just the half of the cup I need to.

JB Holmes with an 83 today 🥺

Very rusty but glad to see him out there trying

Hoping to make it to Paynes Valley this year. Checked the Brickyard and French Lick Pete Dye off my list last season.
How’d you like Pete Dye? Played it once myself a few years ago, very solid course. Ranks up there with sawgrass (another Dye) but obviously different topography.

Need Raleigh NC recommendations: Maybe making a business trip there this spring, see that Tobacco Road is only 45 minutes away, and the UNC Finley course looks very nice as well. Anyone with suggestions would be welcome.

I asked a couple of friends in the area, and they recommended Duke's course, and Lonnie Poole (NC St course)

UNC's course is currently closed for renovations.

That course is insane. The scenery, the challenges, the challenge it had to be to even build a course that high…it’s remarkable in every sense. The course record from the tips is 71 lol. On the #11 tee box you can see a town 38 miles away.

I hope Phil is ok not playing Ryder. He was never playing another anyway.

Hawks Landing in Orlando/Disney Marriott. Fun, lots of water to hit over or lay up. $100 on some cheap site Tee Times USA, never used but saved me $40-$50. 84 degrees yesterday.

Disney Lake Buena Vista Golf Course tomorrow. $107.

Reed is a sad man

Orange County National has some good courses. I think the Panther (can’t confirm name) was the better and they were like $85-100

Anyone played Sarasota and/or Fort Myers courses? Planning a trip and was wanting to hit a few good courses while there.

Played Disney Lake Buena Vista course yesterday. It was ok. Layout was pretty simple for tourists. Wide fairways. Little water coming into play.
Hawks Landing was real nice. Several holes had to carry water/canal. I would prefer to play that course again.

Can’t remember when Pebble Beach pro-am had so few top names in the field.
Field has been weak for awhile. Issue now is that these elevated events + majors have pretty much dictated where top pro's play and what weeks they will rest.

Looks like they made the right move with a Monday finish this year.

Combined w/ the fact that Torrey is simply a better tournament the week before, the "pro-am" feature of Pebble is no longer the attraction it once was, and Riviera is the next week, this event will not get the love it once did from the players.

To us normal amateur hacks, playing Pebble is a bucket list deal. To touring pros, it's another event they have to juggle around their schedule seeing that they play on the best courses in the world on a weekly basis. It needs to be placed in a better slot but with the CA swing being this time of the year not sure when they can schedule it later in the season that will attract more of the top players.

Couple of options. They can put it before the Napa Valley tournament to start the year in September.

Saw where the elevated events, some, may become rotational. You gotta keep your sponsors happy. AT&T sponsors two tournaments. You know they will not be paying the same sponsorship money in the future.
