GOLF thread

I said previously that I want to outlive Greg Norman so I could piss on his grave. I am not going to do that. I am going to eat spicy foods and cheap whiskey for a month and have explosive diareah on his grave instead.
Dude relax you act like he harmed you or something

How many hours or minutes did you watch LIV in their first season?

I think i put it on in the second event and watched like 5 minutes. Tried another tourney and couldnt find a reasonable feed and hung it up. So, 5 minutes for me.

At the moment there has been nothing there for me to tune into it or players that would really make me tune in. Ive always watched the Euro tour on a Saturday or Sunday am and have enjoyed a few no names maybe with a known name battle for something that seemed meaningful (the key here is that it seemed meaningful for someones career), ive tuned into some Champions tour when its a major or a decent leaderboard that weekend, ill watch some of the Womens majors, watch the US am and college golf but nothing yet has made me want to watch LIV. Im not for this tour but its more than not being for it, theres just nothing at the moment about the product that has drawn me in.
I think for them to be successful they have to find that link between golf viewers like me and their events. Sure the money can keep coming and the tour will go on with 58,000 viewers but how are they going to bring in more people or will it ever matter?

^^^They will get more viewers, and a TV gig soon, but in the end it is still nothing more than a money grab. There is nothing that ultimately draws me to their events. Name one tournament that was played.

Watching Seamus Power's reaction yesterday was why they play the game on the PGAT.

It sucks that the R&A is going to allow LIV players in the British, and I would guess the others will follow suit, but the Players, and the other great tour events inc. the ones with increased $$ will be a no.

Most guys wont qualify without actualy going to a qualifier. There will be what like 6-7 guys from LIV in the British? Then we wait on world ranking points and their decision which seems to be leaning in LIV's favor as well.

Will be interesting to see what the Masters does. I assume as well they will do the same allowing past champions and you will get 5-6 guys in as well.

Perez, like a pig in mud, laughing all the way to the bank to the tune of 8 million.

I mean, he did nothing on the PGA Tour except find a way to keep his card so LIV is like Disneyland to a player like him especially at this stage of his career.

Yep. No brainer. All the hypocrites I mean bashers would do the exact same thing but they can't even break 85 on a Muni course, let alone get paid to play...... so they take the high and mighty stance, instead. lol.

By the way Greg, unlimited dollars could make a Paddock Golf Thread Tour get off the ground.

Congrats to Seamus Power, 2021 Barbasol champ who got his 2nd PGA win in Bermuda today, albeit against a really weak field. Think he punched his ticket to Augusta with the win.

With 3rd place this weekend in Mexico, Power now no. 1 in the FedEx standings. Pretty cool, tbh

Weak field w/ reference to world rankings, but they are still PGA Tour pro's who are playing for big bucks and life changing situations.

LIV Golf is pursuing ex-TaylorMade executive and current Taco Bell CEO Mark King as a replacement for Greg Norman, the Saudi-backed circuit's current CEO, per The Telegraph (via Riley Hamel and David Dusek of Golfweek).

King "is believed to have met with" Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV Golf.

However, LIV Golf has denied the report and intends to release a statement regarding the matter, per Bob Harig of Sports Illustrated.

King worked for TaylorMade for 34 years, beginning as a territory sales representative. He was named president of the company in 1999 and became CEO in 2002, turning it into one of the most influential equipment makers in golf.

Finau w/ 3rd win in 4 months. His game has finally reached expectations.

Has the shortest swing I ever saw, but absolutely KILLS it.

I once read Ernie Els say "if you want to hit it big, you have to swing it big", I believe Tony F disproves that advice and Jon Rahm as well.

JB Holmes doesn’t take it back far, either.

Few athletes/golfers have the explosive core/ legs like those guys do. Helps that Tony is 6-4 with really long arms but also has to have a great amount of fast twitch muscle as well. Rahm has a massive caboose and tree trunk for legs that allows him to have an incredible amount of explosive power in a short burst. Finally, may not look like it but their hands and arms are very loose which allows for a significant amount of that whipping effect at the ball. Couple that with the amount of powerful turn they are getting and that is a good recipe for being a long hitter. They may it look easy but as we all know it's far from it.

Bubba's arms are twigs, but his torque and speed is stupid...

As UKAlum said...Finau is a tall guy who can generate a ton of speed.

My fav short swing is Allen Doyle, who was in the 270 range in his senior prime....well short by even today's senior guys, but he won 4 senior majors.

Almost every time I shorten my swing, I hit it further and it's usually when I'm trying to take something off to hit to a distance. I think a lot of it has to do with more control and better ball striking. Being lanky, it's tough to take a really long swing and get everything coordinated for impact.

Good video break down. He's saying go back until you are about to bend you lead arm. Pretty much about when your chin hits your shoulder on the take away.

F'ing hell. Can't even share a youtube video.

Bubba has freakish flexibility that creates an incredibly long turn along with excellent hands. I would put him in the God just gave him natural golf ability category. Same category I would put John Daley in as well (I still think he may be the most naturally gifted golfer in my lifetime).

Everybody I have ever played with that are long hitters tend to be very flexible but also very loose throughout their swing. Some guys are really strong and have the ability to muscle it but they tend to be pretty inconsistent. The best ball striker/long hitter I have ever played with also played on tour. Shorter guy with massive legs/calves and flexible. Impeccable tempo with a huge backswing but generated so much power and speed with his lower body. He has absolutely no idea how he does it. It's always come natural to him. Did put a lot of time in the gym working on his core and legs plus lots of stretching and yoga.
