GOLF thread

He was voted the favorite golfer in Asia which includes Taiwan, Korea, China, Thailand, and Japan. LIV wants that Asian and Middle East Market. And in Golf Course Design Magazine that area of the world is we’re golf is growing. Over 15 courses in China alone. 10. Years from now I doubt LIV has a tourney in Usa
Well, if he only cares about his international brand then have at it. He is American and lives on the USA. The long ball was cute for awhile but sooner than later folks want to see the elite golfers win tournaments. He has not been a serious contender in a good while and likely will have a shorter career when the injuries start piling up and they will pile up as he ages.

Phil says he never did interview with Alan Shipnuck, the one he aplogized for.

He also got this:

What he's saying is correct. He thought he was talking off the record and Shipnuck took down everything he said for his book, to make money. Unfortunately Journalists' code of ethics are like that line in Pirates of the Caribbean, they're more like guidelines.
Or Phil is a lying sack of shit. He and Shipnuck can’t both be right.

He wasnt talking off record. Just listened to the book, btw. Shipnuck had asked Phil to talk multiple, multiple times and Phil said no. A few weeks before the book was to be published Phil calls him.

Rickie tied for the lead at the Zozo heading into the weekend. What a huge win this would be for him if he can pull it off.

Phil just denied something that everyone else knows is pretty much a fact? Hell some of our highest elected officials have made a career out of that tactic. I don't see what the issue is. 😉

I'm 2/3 of the way through the book now, honestly Phil is a very complicated character, very generous in a lot of ways, but can be very much a self absorbed tone deaf prick as well.

Book makes his wife seem like a saint, fwiw

I hope he wins. I like Rickie. Seems a like a good guy. Joe got a win already after he and Rickie parted now Rickie can get one.
Thought it was classy that he gave a shout out to Joe for being on the bag for the win with the wunderkind.

The petty part of it is how many golf fans all the sudden hate him. He's always been phoney, but they just NOW decide they don't like him. That makes those people as phones as him.

No it doesn’t. It means he just had those people fooled. Fans don’t know him like tour players do. He came across as a great guy in the media. He is just a two faced hypocritical POS. You are way off base.

I think the thing Phil most wants to be able to refute from that interview is the part where he said he didn't even care if LIV succeeded, he just wanted leverage. I think Phil knows those guys he's working for are some scary MFers and would kill him in a second.

He’s always been a phoney and any golf fan that’s more than casual knows it. You are completely clueless. Enjoy the rest of your life. Bye now.

Koepka reveals that he'll need knee replacement in a few years, meaning his career will be over. Good on him for winning today and trying max out his possible earnings before having to retire at a young age.

Or should he have saluted snd pledged allegiance the mighty PGA?........the PGA that doesn't give a flying flip about him or his knee.

Wow are u taking this personally? I wasn’t attacking you. The only person who deserves criticism here is Mickelson. Sorry my answer upset you. Wasn’t my intent.

They don't?
Nope. Not just him. They aren’t going to take care of anybody that can’t play, so he took it on himself to get paid while all the golf snobs cry in their beer over LIV. Funny! I love the show.

It's not golf snobs. We'd just rather see all the golfers in one place so you really can determine who is the best and not just from 4 majors a year. Waters down the product. Never begrudge what another person can get on the open market, especially given what it has forced the PGA to step up and do. However, as the PGA funds multiple tours and one of the best pensions, they already have a lot invested. Further, if they did not have to fund all they do, there would be little of a feeder system. That's not growing the game.

Personally, I hope the LIV and PGA beef ruin the game of golf and completely hault the growth of the game, so that I don’t have to keep paying $60 for a 6 hour round of golf no matter where I go (non private).

Sensible. The qualifying requirements, former major champs will take care of itself for the next few years..
Most former champs get a 5 year exemption at the other majors. If they finished top 5 or 10 in recent major, it qualifies for the next ones I believe.
Without OWGR points, some players will be on the outside looking in, mainly the past their prime Westwood, Poulter and others.
Not sure what cut of date to be top 50 for majors is but some seem comfortably in like, Niemann, Ancer, Gooch while others may be on edge of not qualifying, NA, Kokrak, etal.
There's no guarantee some of these guys would have stayed top 50 based on age and ability over next few years like Na, Varner, Casey, Oosty and a few others. Tough to argue they are deserving going forward. (Oosty former Open champ will get exemption)

I said previously that I want to outlive Greg Norman so I could piss on his grave. I am not going to do that. I am going to eat spicy foods and cheap whiskey for a month and have explosive diareah on his grave instead.

FWIW I agree with the Open, if they've qualified under the existing rules let them play whether they are on LIV tour or not

Congrats to Seamus Power, 2021 Barbasol champ who got his 2nd PGA win in Bermuda today, albeit against a really weak field. Think he punched his ticket to Augusta with the win.
