What an amazing round of golf by Lefty. It will be a tall task for him to keep this up on one helluva brutal course, but he will not go down without a fight.

If he would stick to the senior tour, it would be a joke how many times he would win without breaking a sweat

should be an epic finish to the walker cup on golf channel at 5:30

leaderboard looks like it will come down to last couple groups

Tough to win this year on PGA tour? Yesterday makes 8 different major tournament winners who have won in 2021, and that is not counting Matsuyama. Hell even Billy Horschel was a past Fed Ex champion.

These guys are good!

I was watching him yesterday and on 18 when he hit his 2nd to 55ft I said that's right in his wheelhouse and sure enough he sinks the putt dead center for the eagle. Unnatural the way he makes long putts.

Ryder Cup Talk:

2021 at Whistling Straits
Captain USS Stricker
Career Ryder Cup Record:
- Fourballs: 1-3-1
- Foursomes: 1-2-0
- Singles: 1-2-0

Not a lot of faith in the US going into this one. Updated protocols are Top 6 AQ, then 6 Captains Picks

Updated Ryder Cup Standings:

Automatic Qualifiers:
1. Dustin Johnson
2. Bryson DeChambeau
3. Justin Thomas
4. Brooks Koepka
5. Collin Morikawa
6. Xander Schauffle

Next 6:
7. Patrick Reed
8. Tony Finau
9. Daniel Berger
10. Webb Simpson
11. Jordan Spieth
12. Billy Horschel

My very early guess at Captains Picks:

Jordan Spieth
Phil Mickelson
Will Zalatoris
Patrick Reed
Tony Finau
Kevin Kisner - I don't think Stricker would do it, but I would. 16-6-1 career in Matchplay (I Think)

The Europeans are always fired up in that underdog role even when they are favored meanwhile the US has to play like we're defending something or under pressure to win. It seems like for the forseeable future we have a built-in disadvantage that we have to overcome. I would go for an infusion of those younger guys like Zalatoris. I'm thinking Zalatoris will be a Ryder cup monster while anyone that has a history of noggin' or choke problems like Spieth and Finau I would question even though on paper they are more than deserving.

My daughter had her first golf lesson last night and it went pretty well. The guy made a couple of tweaks to her grip and stance and she instantly started striking the ball better and hitting it further. Next lesson is to work on putting and reading greens along with additional tweaks on her swing. I also entered her into a tournament in a couple of weeks to see how she does playing 18 holes against older girls. She is 12 but will be playing up in the 14-15 year old group.

If my driver is off starting a round, I put it in the bag, keep the head cover on it and pull out my 3 wood. After a few holes if I am hitting the 3 wood good, I give the driver another chance. If that fails, it is 3 wood the rest of the day. I do carry two Calloway drivers in my bag, 9.5 and 10.5 degree. Depending on my swing on a particular day, I may hit one better than the other. I am old now (53), have replaced irons below a 7 with fairway metals.

What is the ONE club you have the absolute most trust in ?

Me : 7 wood. I will hit it anywhere from 160 to 175 yards (I can even choke down on it to get in the 150 yard range) I use it on most par 3's and will tee off with it on a very short par 4. Using it to tee off, I will push the tee almost all the way into the ground. As close to "hitting off the deck" as I possibly can as it all ready has plenty of loft, teeing it up will cause me to pop it up. It is also very good hitting out of thick rough and still getting it airborne. I have a pretty slow swing speed as I have gotten older, the 7 wood helps off set that. Also, a lot of it has to do with mind over matter. As the old saying goes "whether you think you can or think you can't, either way you will be right." I have confidence that every time I hit the club, it will be a good shot.

One thing I do have to be careful with when I tee off with it, is to over swing trying to get that extra distance. I just have to remind myself "170-180 straight is better than 200 yanked."

I decided to let her play up a group because she will be playing on the varsity golf team this fall and having to play 18 holes so I thought we would use this summer to prepare. She had to play against some high schoolers in matches last year so that will be familiar for her. She is kind of shy so I thought she might be intimidated playing those older girls last year but it didn't phase her at all. I would probably crap myself having to play juniors and seniors as a 6th grader but the golf course seems to be her happy place. That shy little kid becomes very confident young lady when she steps in the tee box.

Historic win for Phil and I'm glad he did it, but I'm not really that surprised that it happened.

As they say, 50 is the new 40.

Outstanding! I should’ve gotten some lessons when I was that age instead of waiting until a couple weeks ago for my first one. My instructor had me work on my swing path. I was hitting big, sweeping hooks thanks to my dramatic in to out swing path. I’ve been working on making sure I’m aligned properly and staying closer on plane during my backswing.

I recently took the plunge and purchased a brand new Sim 2 last Thursday. I was fit into a 9 degree, adjusted a notch lower loft, with a Hzrdus smoke shaft. On the range, It’s a big upgrade over my old R9. My misses don’t feel as bad and I’ve gained a bit of ball speed. I’ll be taking it out on the course for the first time tomorrow for a scramble. I hope to hit a few bombs lol

Swing path was one thing he wants to change a bit on her swing. He says everything on the downswing is good though. The next step is putting and chipping. I saw so many girls last year that lost tournaments with their wedges and putter.

I used to be good from 125 on in, now I suck. But it is not like I don't practice it, just can't execute on the course.

Current European Team as of now:

European rankings take two sets of rankings

Top 4 on European Points list
Top 5 on the World Points list that are not already in:

Jon Rahm
Tommy Fleetwood
Tyrrell Hatton
Rory McIlroy
Viktor Hovland
Paul Casey
Less Westwood
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Victor Perez

Padraig Harrington would then have 3 captains picks

My guess as of now on who he would take wouldn't be a surprise, if they are all playing somewhat decently
Ian Poulter
Sergio Garcia
Justin Rose

I despise Dechambeau but that is seriously funny.
I don't get the hate for Bryson from so many people? He's a great guy that loves the game and gives a running commentary criticizing his own game a la Jordan Spieth. He's not some giant ahole like Brooks Koepka or anything.

I would follow Bryson or Jordan around the course because of how great they are and what great personalities they have rather than listen to Brooks grumble and hate all over all the other players and cry about his leg hurting when all those dangerous fans rushed by him rooting for Phil on 18. What a jackass.

I've played a little bit growing up using Dad's clubs but am wanting to start playing more regular. I obviously don't want to break bank on a set of clubs to start with. I have been looking online at Dick's Sporting Goods at some complete sets. What would y'all recommend? These are the clubs that I've been looking at.

Top Flight 2020 XL 13 Piece Complete Set

Anyone played the Wildcat course? They have some reasonable rates but the recent reviews I've read don't sound all that great

If it where me, I would go to Calloway Preowned .com and buy a very good used set as opposed to a marginal new set. Just get the basics and add to your bag as you go. Calloway has some very forgiving irons for beginners and weekend warriors. Also, get a good putter, if you are going to learn the game, it is best to have quality equipment, even if it means buying a few years old used set. For a beginner, I would not worry about a 1-4 iron, they are tough clubs to hit accurate even if you have been playing a while. Myself, been playing for years, I am up there in age, so I do not carry any iron below a 7. I find fairway woods are a lot more suitable for my swing speed, and they are actually better for a beginner because of the loft of the club helps get it airborne. First you must get the ball to travel, then after you do that, work on hitting it straight. After you have played a few rounds and get some basics down, get a few lessons to help you learn a proper swing. Not saying get years of lessons, just 5 or 6 to help you help be able to play and not hack it around.

I saw a very interesting video with a PGA pro who said one of the biggest mistakes amateur golfers make when selecting clubs is to spend $500 on a driver that they will hit maybe 14-15 times per round and buy a $25 putter that they will use 30-40 times per round. He was saying not all clubs are created equal and that golfers who plan to play on a somewhat regular basis should invest in a good quality putter first like a Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, Taylormade Spyder, etc. Having just bought a Odyssey Stroke Lab last year I can say it has made a difference in my putting and confidence over the ball.

I also agree with buying used. I purchased the Stroke Lab from Ebay and it didn't look like it had every been played for about 1/2 of what it would cost in a retail store. I think all of my clubs have come from Ebay or Callaway Preowned.

What can you tell me about that new putter? I have played a traditional Odyssey for as long as I can remember and am thinking about switching to something different. I am a good two putter but miss a lot of 6-10 footers.
Feel like my traditional putter wobbles on the takeaway, was thinking something like a mallet or the one you mentioned might keep my takeaway more smooth.
TIA

Below is a link to the putter I have. It has a mallet design and the shaft is metal up about 1 foot from the head and then the rest of the shaft is a composite/fiberglass material which is supposed to help with feel. I don't know how it all works but it has really helped me both on intermediate putts like 10-15 footers and long lag putts. I seldom, even on a 30--40 foot putt, have more than a 2-3 foot putt for my 2nd putt unless I just totally misread it. I would definitely check eBay though because I paid around $125 a year ago for mine and the one in the link is still $199
