I have never understood why a golfer can not get relief when landing in a FW divot. Makes No sense why with a perfect Tee shot a golfer technically gets penalized.

If you think there are shady rulings now, I can't imagine the shadiness if you allowed relief from a "divot".

How old of a divot is eligible for relief? A day? A week? The remnants of an old divot? How do we even define divot in the rules?

No thanks.

Have to tip the cap to BDC, he is more than just a long drive champ, last two wins have been on really tough courses, Winged Foot, and yesterday, where the scoring was the highest in more than 40 years.

His advantage is greatest on a long, narrow course with high rough (Winged Foot was the prime example). If everyone is gonna be in the rough, its better to be 30 yards further.

Golf has a lot of luck involved....no where does it say that you deserve a perfect lie if you end up in the fairway. As good as these guys are, as long as the divot is filled in correctly, it won't cause a problem. Westwood hit the green, and made his par. There was no guarantee he would have been any closer for his birdie putt had he not found a divot.

If you had seen the fairways at the Barbasol a couple of years ago, you would have asked how come they can't move the ball into the first cut and get a decent lie? Many drives in the fairway were worse than being in the rough.

I think they played lift clean and place most rounds of both the 2018 and 2019 tournaments because we got a ton of rain and the fairways were awfully wet

I am attempting to play. My swing will so out of sorts it will be ugly.

I have always had trouble striking the ball well with my wedges, irons and hybrids. I noticed after my daughter had made a video of my swing that my swing plane seemed to be a little flat so I started last fall/winter taking the club on a little more of a verticle swing plane and it has made a huge difference in not hitting so many topped shots. I have even taken it a little more vertical with my driver and it seems to have helped with the slice I had as well. The game is a lot more enjoyable when you are getting some birdies and mostly pars instead of a bunch of bogies, double bogies and just picking the ball up because you lost count of how many strokes you have. 🤣

I’m kinda trying to re learn the game at age 61. Haven’t played since I was 40. Golf is hard lol. But I’m enjoying the process , and getting better. But it’s amazing to me how much shorter my distances are from 20 plus years ago. I never noticed how much my body had changed until now. Gonna take time to adjust, and going to have to move forward on the tees.

I see new players go to the back tees because they feel it's the manly thing to do and then they shoot a 10 on a par 4. I am thinking to myself I would rather hit from the senior tees and get a 6 or 7 than a 10 from the back tees. I actually can hit further now than I could in my 20's just because I can strike the ball better and my wicked slice is more of a fade now. 🤣

I agree it does not effect Pros a lot playing from a divot it just seems that since they repair the divot it be Ground under Repair and you get relief like you normally would in a repairing area.

I can’t stop watching this. Used to despise him, but I can’t lie, he’s growing on me just a bit.

He's making golf simpler for himself. We should all do the same. I got into a Cobra event to write some club reviews for them on another forum I post on. I am going to try One Length irons because I get them free. I bought an armlock putter too. I am already using it. It is a yip eliminator. Already putting about 1.5 strokes better than my last 20 round average through 3 rounds with it so far. We'll see how it goes long term but for now I am enjoying it.

I think people should play front till they break 80 then move back if they want to. Someone who has never shot a 79 from the white shouldn't be playing blue honestly.

I am going just the opposite, turned 60 and have moved up to the white, until I can "earn" my way back to the blue by breaking 80 a few times. Not that much shorter than I ever was, if any, but (A) can't seem to keep the big numbers off my card the way I used to; and (B) cannot concentrate and focus as well as I could when I was 30 or 40.

Sometimes men's egos will not allow them to go to the front tees but I guess I am the opposite. I am usually about 265-275 with my driver and occasionally get a little more with a good bounce or roll. So while I may not win any long drive championships for a 50 year old it isn't bad. My biggest problem has always been consistency especially with my irons, wedges and hybrids. So I may get a really nice drive and end up topping my second shot, shanking my third, blading my fourth, finally chipping on and then 3 putting for a 8 on a par 4. While I currently don't need to move up due to being at a disadvantage from a distance stand point I would have no problem in moving to the front tees if I were.

There's a course called Cobblestone in Atlanta that has a handicap range on a sign for each tee box. Always thought that was smart and seemed to help us decide between testosterone and common sense.

I got behind 4 young guys who were hitting from the championship tees. Three of them were literally not getting past the front tees. They held us up all day hitting multiple shots and their 4th guy got tired of waiting on them and just kept playing and left them. 🤣

Down at Kentucky Dam Village they had a sign in the pro shop which showed the tees you should be playing from according to your average drive. Seemed pretty smart to me but I think many people overestimate how far they actually drive the ball.

I agree about the overestimating how far they hit. The yardages I mentioned in my previous post were total distances and ideal conditions. Obviously cold weather in 15-20 MPH headwinds would greatly affect those. 🤣

Played in a golf trip at Whistling Straits a few years ago where that was happening, we complained to our caddy, who had a word with the other group's caddy, and on the next tee, he made them all move up to the appropriate tees, which made both groups a lot happier, especially the caddies.

I like playing the course where it's fun. I only hit my driver 230. From 6500 or so I am Hybrids and FW's into every par 4. Tough to get on the green hitting those clubs all day. If I have to for a tournament or something I can, but my shortgame will get a workout that day as I will need a lot of up and downs for pars and bogeys.

Golf elbow injury happening. Have never had it but right arm is hurting. Google says rest, ice, and pain relievers but I have a tee time Saturday. WTF do I do?

What Google says. Had to stop playing for several months to rest the injury. My guess is you have been practicing off of mats lately. Those things will mess your joints up in a hurry which is why I do all I can to avoid them. Actually had to switch to steel fiber shafts to help with my elbow pain. If you have a tee time either get a cortisone shot (do not recommend) or go buy this type of elbow strap and see if it will get you through the round.

Wow on figuring out mats. Absolutely all I have hit off of in the last month. Going to stay away from those damn things.
