Not a problem. All they have to do is apply for SEC membership. I'm sure they'd be accepted as an equal - but not as a prima donna.

Don’t hold your breath. SEC is going to 9 games, so we’re likely losing the UL game, so very close to 0% we ever play ND during the regular season unless they join the SEC.
This. With 9 game SEC schedule coming possibly as soon as '26 UK going to need 3 easy OOC games. Notre Dame going to be one of those 3 and feel UL game be dropped also.
If we want to take the next step, we can’t drop the bird game. Schedule 2 pitiful teams and let’s roll. Does it really matter if we miss out on a meaningless bowl game anyway.
Gonna be pissed if we drop UL. The point of all these games is to enjoy watching them, not try to pad Stoops record with cupcakes.
Maybe from a fan’s perspective, but a coach knows how important the bowl games are. Bowl teams get 20 hours per week until their game, so that’s an extra 60-100 hours depending upon when the game is. That is more valuable to the team than a coin flip game that may keep you out of a bowl given the increased difficulty of the SEC schedule. I want to see them keep the UL game, but it’s a risk I might not take if I was the AD.
That’s true, but it seems like they practice year round now. I’m not sure if there are as many restrictions on practice time as there used to be. I mean, UK basketball has been practicing all summer and it’s not basketball season.
If it were up to me, when the SEC goes to 9 games I would add a rule that stated one of the three OOC games has to be against a P4 team. Maybe start a football version of the conference challenge where the SEC partners with one of the other P4 and does a yearly, rotating slate of games. Would be fun to get to play some fresh teams and go to some new stadiums.
You don’t have to speculate. It takes 20 seconds to look it up and then you will know they do not practice in the field year round. They have very limited on field with coaches time during the off season and only 8 hrs allowed and that includes S&C. Bowl games add 25%+ more practice time for the season and, more importantly, they focus on the younger guys who haven’t gotten as many snaps. This helps them solidify their role/playing time for the next season. Young talent that doesn’t have this opportunity is more likely to leave after the season is over, if they aren’t sure where they are in the pecking order. You cannot u estate the importance of making it to bowl eligibility every year.

Eventually the powers to be will require p4 playing each other and frankly a 2 game series with ND would enhance our image and we do need to get away from the MAC teams down to 1. Pick a big ten team that’s lower in the league standings.
If we are getting that extra bowl practice, and we can't beat Louisville and 5 other games, what's the point of having extra bowl practice.
UL, 1 MAC team, lower level big 10, vandy, 2 other SEC teams makes 6. If we can’t win 3 games in SEC we have no business going bowling period. Someday we as fans should expect more from UK. Why not now?
Dropping the Louisville game would be extremely disappointing. If playing and losing to Louisville is the difference between making a bowl and not making a bowl then so be it. Replacing them with some no-name directional school would be so boring.
I can remember a ton of memorable Louisville games and rivalry moments—both from wins and losses. I remember almost nothing in the dozens of games against the likes of the Akrons and Central Michigan’s of the world.

If you're keeping UL off the schedule, because you're afraid you might not go 6-6 to get extra practices (which I think is an overrated aspect anyways), then you have more problems than just worrying about beating UL.
Whether some people want to admit it or not, UL is our biggest rival. We need to keep UL. And it's a rival that we have some success against. We were a mediocre 6-5 team last year and beat 10th ranked UL in the final game of the season. We beat an 11th ranked UL in 2016 as a mediocre 6-5 team. Where our program stands now, we can beat decent UL teams with mediocre teams of our own. They need to stay on the schedule.
So, you would rather watch UK play a game against Eastern Michigan than Louisville?
Technically…Ky would be replacing UL with a sec game…so the Texas auburn LSU error the world are what we’d be replacing UL with../not a MAC game
We talk about the UL game all year, so much interest all over the state in the game, dropping it doesn't make since to me.
If we don’t play them their fans will tout 9 wins against sister Mary of the blind as proof they would beat us head to head. We can NOT DROP UL. My life depends on that.
Technically they would decide to keep a game with a MAC team over a game with UL as one of their OOC games. It’s weak imo
Yeah 2 ooc Mac cupcakes and a 1 aa mega cupcake. No one cares about those games.
This fear of not making it to the who gives a crap bowl game from a portion of our fanbase always baffles me.
UK should make the playoffs its goal every season, as that is the only show in town that matters.
