Dook's Flagg 'hesitant' in debut

The Flagg and Duke glazing is gonna be awful this year. ESPN might have to be cancelled.
Not with ABC paying billions to the SEC. I think all of our minds are going to be blown with the new coverage we get. I was saying in another thread it doesn’t matter as much in football because the SEC is so absurdly dominant it has to be covered extensively but for basketball it’s going to be awesome, especially since ESPN is pretty much responsible for 90% of the basketball content and shows. The SEC is now ABC/ESPNs cash cow - coverage will be through the roof.

Sounds like normal freshman adjusting to the pace of the game kind of stuff. Hope it takes him a good 9-12 months to adjust.
I think he will end up pretty good pretty fast. I know a lot will give him crap but I honestly think he’s in that upper tier who will be pretty good in college. I would be happy if he fell flat and did nothing but the odds are not in our favor there.

The whistle he'll inevitably get will make things even worse. He's going to LIVE at the free throw line all season. I bet he's a flopper too.

I'm already getting red-assed at the idea of Oweh and Robinson getting in foul trouble.

Kentucky will roll Duke in early Nov and the AP will rise Duke to #1 and drop UK to honorable mention.

Duke strikes me as an institution that owes almost all its success to one coach - there's no way - IMO they will sustain the level of success experienced under that foul mouthed little dude they once had with the sharp facial features and nasally condescending voice

But - hey
They do still have lacrosse right?

Duke is very tall. Reminds me of our 2015 team. They will probably be favorite to win acc . Hopefully we can beat them .

This was basically a Madness-type event for them. Two 10-minute intra-squad scrimmages. I wouldn’t take anything from it.

In ten days or so we’ll see how he compares to AD blocking 8 shots in his first exhibition game.

He’s going to be a very good or even great player, but the bottom line is true freshman do not lead teams to titles. It just doesn’t happen, no matter how good. That Duke Zion team was insane, but completely fizzled out by March. Countless examples of Cal teams doing this.

This duke team will be no different.

Flagg is going to be really good. If he signed with UK y'all would be declaring him the #1 pick and NPOY already, come on now.

We had the number 1 recruit last year and you see how that turned out. He could be flipping burgers somewhere for all I know. Our recruit from KY kicked all their arses and counting his money as a Lottery Pick in the NBA right now. You never know what translates from High School to College these days. I like CMP and my team. We know we got kids that can produce in College.

Go Cats!!

I don't doubt he's good but I can't seem him being Zion Williamson good. Zions was the most physically impressive player I've seen with the combination of being more athletic than Flagg while also being 5 times as powerful. He was also given a blank check to be as physical as he wanted when players like Julius Randle and Bam Adabayo were handicapped for being the strongest guys on the court with ridiculous "over the back" and "charge" calls. God forbid one of them had their elbows flared out on a rebound and an opposing player scraped their chin on them.

With all that going for him, Zion STILL couldn't lead that team with Barrett AND Reddish with coach K at the helm to a championship. I don't see Scheyer and Flagg being more dangerous than that team. Especially with NIL allowing teams to make their own super teams with trades and recruiting.

Yes! ^^

What made Zion so good so fast in college, was not his skill level, it was his combination of size and athleticism (supplemented by some skills). Zion was the definition of Man-Child. Comparing Flagg to Barrett may be a better comparison, or to Holmgren. Very good college players, who may develop into NBA All-Stars. I'm not sure Flagg's skill-level is any better or even as good as Holmgren's was. But Flagg is more physically ready/mature than Holmgren was, but not near the degree Zion was.

Remember when we mocked Zion and called him fat Hami and then they kicked our ass in the Champion's Classic?

Some of you guys never learn.
I 100% remember calling him “Fat Hami” and I think I might even want to claim credit on coming up with that nickname. I’m standing on it too, Zion has been Fat Hami in the league up to this point.

Fat Hami broke Cal. That game killed him. It just took five years for the signal to reach his brain.

Flagg will be good, probably a lottery pick, but he's not Zion or AD type good imo.

I could see him being a Julius Randle level freshman all the way to another Fillipowski.

I could easily be wrong, you never know with kids. Feel like this is most likely though.
