Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

Early info suggests the NBA loves his size, versatility and upside. The kid very well may be a first round pick. I think it's50/50 at best that he comes back.

If does indeed go then well have the right to have a problem with what transpired

Not enough to take him in first round apparently. One NBA source said some teams could take him in the second round "as a flier". The NBA has the OAD rule so they can see these guys against competition for a year before they throw millions at them. They don't have that with Diallo.

I mean, don't you remember Cal encouraging everyone to test the waters last year? Even if you're not ready, you get the experience so you are more prepared when it is your time. I don't know if the kid will get drafted at this point ( I highly doubt it) but he would be stupid to not go through it for the experience...and if by some chance he is lottery...well, more power to him. I'd like him to play here, and expet he will, but don't begrudge a kid for chasing his dreams. My guess is, we'd all care a little bit less if we'd done a better job chasing our own!

Honestly he came so close to the deadline that by the very end I was thinking he actually might not do it.

But even then I couldn't think of any good reason why he might not do it. This has nothing at all to do with Cal encouraging people to test the waters last year. We knew long before then that everybody got one free test. It's like a more extreme version of your official visits: why not use it? It's not as if there was any chance Diallo was coming back for the 18-19 season. He's way too good for that unless every analyst in America is smoking crack. So of course he's gonna want to use his one free draft test the only time he'll ever be able to use it.

Up until that very last 36 hours before he declared I never had any doubt he would. And now that he has declared I'm back to not being surprised at all.

Not so much about him testing the waters, for me. It was his statement that all but closed the door on a return that left me disappointed. This is speaking as a fan only. Wish him the best and no hard feelings. Just sucks.

You're reading way too much into things. He would be dumb not to test the waters. He'll be back.

I thought everyone knew it would happen, since it's kind of exactly what he said he would do from the start...

It got so close to the deadline that I admit my hopes were up that he wouldn't declare.I'm not angry at him or Cal if he ends up leaving but it's just very depressing to lose a guy who never even played.I still think odds are he returns because I can't imagine him going first round in a loaded draft.

I read no such statement.

HD WAS expected to do this from "DAY 1" so Cal and HD know what they want him to work on most.

HD is projected to go #22 in NEXT YEAR'S draft and has a VERY small chance at being drafted at all this year.

Sorry, but they're well aware of Diallo and I'm sure many have talked to Cal.

I swear if he stays in the draft and UK gets nothing out of this deal honestly people have to look at CAL and say WTF!

How long did it take to come up with that thought. However long it was a waste of good oxygen.

What did UK invest that gave them some right to feel they were guaranteed something in return? Grow up and quit whining.

There is no defending this. Trying to do so simply means you're going to defend anything and everything regarding Cal and the "one-and-done" system, no matter what. And that's coming from someone who defends Cal virtually every time, but not this time.

To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against the system and think it has been great for UK. But this particular situation is a joke. I always remember Cal saying something along the lines of "if we do right by them and help them reach their dreams, they'll do right by us and help pull us to where we want to go." I think the vast majority of fans are on board for that.

But when it starts being an entirely one-sided deal, there's nothing wrong about calling it exactly that -- and being disappointed, or even angry about it. That doesn't make you a hater, or selfish, or anything remotely close to that. It simply means you can look at a situation objectively and know when you as a fan are being asked to swallow something that is unjustifiable.
Swallow it baby!

Initially I thought he might, but when we made it to the last day a player could declare I didn't think he would, thought he was going to play a year like he said. I think it's unlikely he doesn't stay in the draft, seems like the type that's wanting to go pro no matter what or where he's projected. I hope I'm wrong.

I thought he would but It's just very concerning next season if he leaves.I really like our 3 guards but don't think they are enough to make a final 4.Johnson would help but it would still be tough.

Gone Gone Gone. They leave so quick now they don't even play a game. We are really cutting our time in Lexington down to a snap of a finger.

The timing says you probably aren't wrong

Info from where?

Aware of him and having a solid scouting report on him are two different things. Or do you think they dispatch their scouts to all those games just for the heck of it?
He is an elite prospect. They had solid scouting reports on him, enough to let him know he needed to improve his jump shot and overall team play. Do you really think they aren't totally aware of an elite player who may be available for the draft? By all accounts we have, he has greatly improved. If that is so, he is gone. Ask Cal, he's the one talking about how much he's improved.
