Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

I understand perfectly. It's just that your point is exceptionally dumb and highly speculative.

The exceptionally dumb thing I did was thinking you had any comprehension skills and it wasn't speculative at all. I have my opinion and you have yours. No need to speculate that I'm wrong.

There is no defending this. Trying to do so simply means you're going to defend anything and everything regarding Cal and the "one-and-done" system, no matter what. And that's coming from someone who defends Cal virtually every time, but not this time.

To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against the system and think it has been great for UK. But this particular situation is a joke. I always remember Cal saying something along the lines of "if we do right by them and help them reach their dreams, they'll do right by us and help pull us to where we want to go." I think the vast majority of fans are on board for that.

But when it starts being an entirely one-sided deal, there's nothing wrong about calling it exactly that -- and being disappointed, or even angry about it. That doesn't make you a hater, or selfish, or anything remotely close to that. It simply means you can look at a situation objectively and know when you as a fan are being asked to swallow something that is unjustifiable.

You seem to think that if you put the words "I think" in front of a guess then it becomes an opinion.

Most on here are assuming Cal took the kid knowing he was going to the draft. What if Diallo told everyone he's coming back for next year (hence the spring of practice) only to be convinced by people around him that he needs to go pro? Just because the kid decides to stay in the draft, if that is in fact what he does, doesn't mean Cal let him use the program.

Just throwing that possibility out there for discussion.

I think the problem with that is Cal gets the benifit of the doubt from most through all. At some point even pumpers have got to say, that's the line. Don't cross it.

And honestly, for our program, that needs to be addressed. Fans play an important role. It's just like voters in a political race. We need to leverage our weight.

At minimum, Cal needs to get a message that we will not tolerate players using our program and not contributing.

Exactly. If Diallo used UK as a place mat to clean his feet (work on his weaknesses) and walk through the door (NBA) immediately, that would be crappy.

What is there to defend? Taking a commitment from a Top 10 player and #1 SG and not making him pinky swear to play at least one year? Or not refusing to let him leave, which I think would probably not be possible? Just wondering what we are supposed to be defending here.

I would like to ask everyone, what proof is there that he's not coming back next season?

I'm counting him already on the roster. Threads and opinions like the ones I'm seeing on here might drive him away...sheeesh

Let him do some workout, and then he'll be back to in blue and white for a great season!

lmao@ using the program. That's a two-way street.

Except it's not. Diallo (if he leaves) used UK and this program for the NBA while contributing nothing. And he can also come back and get a free degree while being a millionaire and never did one single thing for UK. **if**

So **if** that happens, people have a right to call the program on it.

If not it's moot and let's get Bamba and roll into another final four.

For the most part, I do think the majority of the board believes he will be back and is just doing the smart thing and testing the waters. But then again, I don't think anyone here is guaranteeing that he will return, as we have seen far less talented players leave our program early.

I'm just piling on Cal because he's the dad I love and hate at the same time.

And as I said, UK fans need to apply leverage here. I think it's very healthy for this program.

Are we going to go through 20+ pages again after he actually makes a decision on this? Everyone needs to chill a bit and let it play out.

But it is. Type another hundred words. Won't change that fact.

And some people need to accept the truth that no time in the history of the U of Ky had such talent pass thru in a 8 year span and only won 1 title. Some simply wont accept you can be a true UK fan and still be pissed we didnt win a title with a couple of the the most talented teams ever assembled here . But you even mention it ............................ troll TROLL ..... troll ...... troll ..... Cal hater ........ troll etc etc etc
I get what your saying but it's young talent. Its not very easy to win with young Talent. If Kanter plays. if WCS doesn't get hurt. If Poy doesn't get hurt, if Skal had of lived up to expectations and if Higgins had never been born. How many Titles are we talking about now. All I know is we went from not even sniffing a final four to having a legit shot every year. I could relate to ur argument a little more if our talent was all soph or jr then yeah I could understand the whole we should have had more with the talent argument

how are you all going to feel if Diallo comes back? ( I think he does, btw)
does this discussion become moot?
Yep most likely he does. He isn't even projected but 22 in the 18 draft. But he is going to just blow up and over take all the talent in front of him and go in 17. Cal encourages kids to do this. It is crazy not to take advantage of getting professional feedback so he knows what to work on. One of the reasons I think he waited so long to announce is he probably just plans on going to the combine just like Lee.

Jeebus christmas. He's just testing the waters right now. Thats the right thing to do. Now if he decides to stay in the draft then start your damn tirade.

I honestly believe that's exactly what is going on. I think he has every intention of returning, with everything he needs to work on for next season.
Don't believe he lied to us, or Cal; if the rule hadn't changed last year (and our whole team "declared" because of it) he wouldn't have the opportunity to do this.

We
We don't need a NBA GM Cal, we need a coach for our program.
We have an outstanding coach whether you want to see it or not.
Question if a tree falls down in a forest and crushes you, Zaythovan, Titles and the other lowlifes that frequent this board..... does it make a sound or better yet would anyone care?

So was it a GM who has us on this incredible ride with 4 final 4s, a runner up, 38 straight wins in a season and a championship. Being a "dummy" places me about a dozen levels above you intellectually Big Chickenshit Fan

This is perfectly stated. I've tried a thousand times to express this exact point but you must be better at expressive yourself because I get blasted every time I touch this topic. Excellent post.

I'm not sure what leverage we could apply.

The rules are pretty simple with Cal. He's gonna do it his way.

He has too much money to deal with "leveraging" of the fan base.

And UK fans would be cruicified by most if they made this relationship go sour over the same thing Cal defends which is helping kids achieve their dream of the NBA and financial success.

Cal would see it as a deal breaker actually, because he's built his reputation around that. The moment people pressure him to change, he'll just suddenly get interested in an NBA job or hanging out at a donut shop all day watching us with the next Billy Gillispie.

He wasn't going to handle Diallo any other way and fans just need to accept it. Well they don't have to, but I don't think they'll like their options if they don't.

IMO. Cal will not directly name a player and throw him under the bus. He understands how that would be used against him. But he will make plenty of sly implications

Some are trolls, some have agendas others are haters some like yourself just don't understand the concept of a team. Basketball is a team sport and takes time to gel. What Cal has accomplished with the turnover is incredible. Raw talent without purpose, cohesiveness or experience is an AAU all star team that cannot b be competitive. Cal takes less that a year and makes them as competitive as teams that take 4 years to build. Stars and potential alone do not make a team. Most of the talent that went to the NBA after 1-2 years have taken a couple of NBA years to develop. If you just focus on what raw talent has passed through and ignore the results you'll never be satisfied.

Baloney , I understand team perfectly well. If Stars and potential dont make a team we are screwed . Guys are not staying with any regularity

And the negative effect is what? Being a serious contender for the championship 6 out of 8 years including a title.

It doesn't seem like we had a realistic shot at another guy who would make a difference next year anyway. If he does leave it is basically the exact same result it would have been if he never enrolled in the first place.

Well first up he will be back, but we would have made Sexton and/or Lonnie Walker the top priorities for SG. Even Petty or MJ Walker or somebody. But again. Diallo is doing what he should do.....Get his feedback, see what they say, and come back. No way in hell he stays in the draft. JMO. Nothing to worry about. He's not retarded. He'll be a lotto pick in 2018. Top 5. He wouldn't even be a 1st rounder in this stacked class. They're gonna tell him to work on his shooting, and etc, and to take his ass to UK and he'll be a top 5 pick and he'll be back. Bet on it.

Exactly. Cal is who he is. College basketbll isn't a democracy. The leverage comment got me. lol What are you gonna do, boycott games until Cal refuses to allow early enrollment? Leave him bad reviews on his podcast? It's laughable. Cal has two options. Whine and cry like some of our fans and look like a hypocrite. Or wish the kid the best and hope other recruits take notice that Cal wasn't lying when he said he loves his guys. Cal and BBN knew this was a risk when he enrolled early. Either way, you have to take that shot.

Early info suggests the NBA loves his size, versatility and upside. The kid very well may be a first round pick. I think it's50/50 at best that he comes back.

If does indeed go then well have the right to have a problem with what transpired
