You have to consider that the wages in 1972 were a fraction of what they are today. But still. I will say IMHO KFC was a lot tastier back then. It was probably the best fast food on the market in those days. Again my opinion but I love me some fried chicken.

KFC chicken is pretty hard to beat. It's also where my taste for cole slaw started. I only wish the cole slaw was as good as it used to be.

I am going to break down and call a doctor about my left shoulder. I have limited range of motion now and need some relief. It hurts,

We're all falling apart Sawnee.

But get that taken care of. My mother is a good example. She went through some severe arthritis issues in her early 70s. I can remember her barely being able to walk and thinking, if this is the quality of life ahead of her, things are pretty grim. But she had multiple operations, and now has full mobility at 86. It's just key to do what needs to be done when the timing is right.

Two nights ago, I got out of bed to pee. As soon as I stepped in the bathroom, the room started spinning. It was dark and I couldn't find a light switch. After I bounced off a few things, I lost a sense of where I was. I broke into a cold sweat, felt a doorknob and went into a closet. Sweat is dripping off me now. I managed to get out of the closet and thirty seconds later I was back in it again. I was about to scream for Jan, when I felt a doorknob and decided to chance it. It led to a spot where I could see light in the living room, so I managed to get to the couch and spent the night there. I finally feel halfway human today. It was only a.mild meneires attack. First one in a few years. I've had much worse.

An acquaintance of mine, old work partner at one point, has serious bouts of vertigo. He's never had good enough insurance nor care to know if he has Menieres. I found out about his severe vertigo because I decided to stop by his place one day when I was nearby doing some work. He crawled to the door to unlock it before heading to the bathroom to get sick from the activity.

He hadn't been able to leave the house nor call anyone for days. Couldn't keep food down. I don't know what might have happened to him if I hadn't been given the thought to stop by to see him. I went to the store and got him some pedialyte, gatorade, and aloe Vera juice (to slow or ease the vomiting). Also got him some broth and and soups for when he was a little better.

I knew that all kinds of vertigo could be triggered by neck and/or ear issues, and told him a high salt diet could as well (and he ate a lot of restaurant-cooked food, specifically pork, which was very high in salt content). I've checked on him mich more often since, but he seemed to be doing better for a while. Lately though, his eating habits have been returning to what they were before his extreme vertigo kicked in.

I will be praying for you today, @berniecarbo and checking in on him to remind him about the changes he made a couple years ago. You posting about your suffering from it may help him, but I really hope you get better soon.

Good morning to all of the D-League. Slept little for 3 days now. I'm a mere wisp of myself right now. Just got to make it to tonight so I can get some rest this weekend.

Same here! Used to love it, but it's been replaced by sonny's and others now as preferred restaurant slaws.

Hoping to get to Double H BBQ in Lexington over the next week to get some of their smoked goodness and a side of cole slaw and their potato salad. They have a prime rib sandwich special on fridays that is excellent. Just have a hard time getting there early enough to get some before they are sold out. Their brisket is killer and their wings as well, so it's not like I miss the prime rib as much if it's all gone.

Have run into Coach Marrow out there 2x in the last 4 years as an added bonus

We're a pair, then. My right shoulder has been excruciating lately. I've avoided the doctor so far, but it's getting to where the constant pain is making me hard(er) to live with. It's multiplying my sleep issues and limiting my work.

That is exactly what I am experiencing. I made an appointment this morning and should have done it six months ago. I have a habit of putting off medical issues.

With that said I am headed back outside to trim around all of my sprinkler heads and valve covers. Then find something else to do.

Alright. I have to tell a story that would embarrass most men.

In November 2001 I was in Afghanistan with my Pashtun fixer Rafi Asad. He was a tall guy, maybe 6'3'' to my 6'5'' but I probably weight 215 then and he might have gone 185. Maybe 180. One day our car broke down as usual and while the driver was messing with it Rafi started throwing rocks out into the Kabul River.

Afghans love to throw and grow up as boys having vicious, violent rock fights. So he had a decent arm. He starts goading me to throw. I didn't bother to mention I had a busted right rotator cuff that I hadn't had repaired for years. I actually had a good arm in my baseball days when I was typically a shortstop, but no more.

After he had gotten further out into the river than me with about three throws, he looks me up and down and says bluntly, "You are big, but you are weak."

I laughed. What could I do. That's just the way with Pashtuns. They say what they think. Then I challenged him to arm wrestle left-handed, and beat him easily in about three seconds. That opened his eyes to our overall relative strength and all was well.

I must say that I have not had the problems some of you have but it could be because I am not as old either. I will say though other than the normal old age (65) aches and pains my body still allows for a lot of movement. Still playing ball and working out (especially Martial Arts) has kept me very limber and healthy, I think (now need to work on diet). Most of my pains come from getting hit by the ball and taking kicks from my student.

As I had posted earlier in the month, I am trying to lose some pounds to eliminate possible problems in the future. Started the first of the month (slow start due to 2 birthdays with food in the first week) but have still gone from 220lbs (Aug 1st) to 214lbs this morning. Aiming for 210lbs by the end of the month. I have done that with portion control (not first week) and adding a 20–30-minute walk after my workouts.

My only real problem according to my doctor is blood pressure. I am trying to lower it naturally as I do not want medications because they seem to add other problems (side effects) that you need more meds for.

Really sorry to hear this Bernie. My Dad has been treated for positional vertigo for the past 5 years with no success. He's 87 and the spells are coming more frequently. Debilitating and it scares him to death that it might happen while driving. The doctors have all said that it's NOT Menieres. Yesterday I took him to a specialist at Norton's and she said that it's NOT positional vertigo but very likely Menieres. We'll see. If this is the case then it's been a huge waste of time. His quality of life has really suffered and if he has been misdiagnosed then I'll really be angry.
When I first started passing out, they didn't know what it was. First they sent me to heart docs and did all kinds of tests.nothing but wasted time and money. Next I was sent to a local neurosurgeon who said I had a tumor on my brain and wanted to operate. That sounded to serious, so I asked my family doc and next door neighbour to set me up with someone really good. He sent me to a world class neurosurgeon in Memphis. He was a butt hole, but very good. He called the surgeon who wanted to operate a clown and told me to go home, see an ENT and quit wasting his time. The ENT quickly diagnosed the problem and started treating me.

If I recognize the attack when it is still slight, I can take mclizine and it helps. Maybe your dad can learn to recognize the signs and detect it early. I failed to recognize it this time because it was combined with something else.

Also I haven't slept since Sunday night. Went and got some sleeping pills while ago. Never had anything like this before.

You can buy OTC mclizine at the drug store. If your friend catches the dizzy spell quick enough, that might help him. If you wait till you are already throwing up, you will just throw up the med. At one time, they gave me suppositories for bad vomiting bouts. Don't know if those are sold OTC.

Hello all,

Changed my RO filters today. All of them. There are four types of filters with five total filters to include a sediment filter (First filter) to the membrane (The fifth filter.) Below is the old sediment filter with the new filter behind it to give a comparison. (The sediment and two others are changed annually to 18 months. All filters are to be changed every two to four years.)

The sediment filter is in the picture and I am thinking it was due at a year at the end of March so I took it near the 17 month mark knowing I was going to change all the filters this go round..... (Ouch) I guess MdW has an idea of what his water is nearly like out of the tap as I bet we are getting near the same water. Sobering but knowing the RO system I have confidence in drinking the water from the RO rather than bottled water...(I'd hate to see their filtering system filters...)

It brings tears to my eyes seeing someone do this, because I never expected anyone in the DLeague to be so sedimental. You're just an ole softy

Beets for BloodPressure. Kiwis help also, but not near as effective as beets. They've helped so many people I've told about them.

Congrats on the weight loss, and lack of pain. You're right about the martial arts and staying limber. Almist all my woes are sourced from football and weight training injuries. Things my freshman wrestling coach never had issues with due to his martial arts training and competition. Coach was a top 3 finisher in a national competition our Fr or So year. Can't remember which discipline

Morning Legionnaires!

96° on tap for today with rain possible in the afternoon. Winds moderate so going fishing this morning. Will try a pond called Elgin Tank that I have only tried once because it is very hard to get to even for a 4-wheel drive (my truck is 2 wheel). Since we have had hardly any rain in the last month or so the ground should accommodate. It is very soft and gives a lot there. The last time I went, was over 10 years ago and slayed them. There were many and they were good sized. Most people will not go there because it is hard to get to and it is at the very edge of the east range artillery impact zone of Ft. Sill. You have to take an extra safety class to be able to go there. Took that one many years ago.

Stayed tuned.

Good morning from ATX. currently 77°F and partly cloudy. Today's high expected around 98°F. We received two showers yesterday. More rain expected between tomorrow through next Friday. We'll take it.

Class is over. Great review of VS and other functions. I learned a few things.

14 days until Kentucky football. Heard rumor first game of season not available on SEC Network, but streamed on ESPN+. Huge bummer if true.

Heading out for a walk. Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Good morning folks. Off to a late start today. Stayed up late watching the Adam Sandler movie Hustle with my son. I have to admit, I enjoyed it.

Some Kentucky references, including a couple appearances of Tyrese Maxey. One thing I noted: Anthony Edwards played a hotshot NBA prospect —from Kentucky. Yeah, now he gets that right.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning all....

Going to make some biscuits, then cut my grass, then fix a recessed light in our kitchen, then if the weather holds the BB wants to use me for target practice with his super soaker. All I have is the water hose.... (The fine mist gets him every time...)

Have a great day...

Good morning D-League. It's currently 68° and partly cloudy here in Eastern Kentucky. This afternoon will bring a chance of thunderstorms and a high of 85°.

Getting ready to enjoy my favorite meal, breakfast. Something I don't get to do through the week. As a kid, I absolutely hated breakfast.

Everyone stay safe on this Saturday.

I am a breakfast first person too. It is my favorite meal of the day and something I would only skip if I had to fast or there was nothing to eat. I was raised by a mother who would get up an hour before the rest of us and put the biscuits in the oven and fry one of ham, sausage, bacon, pork chops or fish. Fried fish for breakfast was always a treat for us. The fish was always fresh caught and never frozen. A special meal for sure.

Good morning D-League

Well it is a pleasant morning down here. We have 78° with sunny skies and should get up to a high of 88° by mid afternoon. There is a 25% chance of rain.

I have been outside working, fine tuning my sprinkler system and removing grass from around the heads to give a more even flow. I think I may have a leak in an underground pipe to my swimming pool. It is dropping an inch or more every day and there are no leaks in the pump or pool itself. I will have a pro come out and put a pressure test on the system and find out what the problem is. I ruled out evaporation and visible leakage. My guess it is underground. We will see.

My daughter drove over from Ocala and picked up my wife for their day trip to Tarpon Springs. They go down every month to see the sponge docks and have their hair fixed by a woman my daughter grew up with. The family has always been close, more like our kin than friends. Tarpon Springs is a nice little Greek Village on the Anclote River and Gulf of Mexico. A beautiful spot and sponge capital of the world. The benefits of using natural sponges for cleaning can not be surpassed.

Back from fishing. Went to Elgin Tank but it was so full of trees and brushes around the bank I could not bank fish, so I drove back to Nine Mile Pond which is just before Elgin Tank. There were 3 guys in kayaks at Elgin Tank which made me wish I had brought mine. Any ways, Nine Mile was pretty good to me as I had many strikes with 7 hooks and 5 landed.

Not a bad haul as the in laws are coming over again today so...fish for dinner. Largest was about 4lbs or so. But the biggest thing in the pond today was me as I got my left boot stuck in the mud at the edge and tried to rock myself free only to lose my balance and fall in. Good thing the beavers who were harassing me earlier were not around. They flanked me early on, one on left side and the other on the right. They started popping their tales on the surfaces signifying I was not welcome. I'm going to tell Ward they were being bad.
