D-League

Good morning from ATX. Currently 78°F and clear. Today's high expected around 101°F. Heat dome strengthening. Another triple-digit day coming.

Daughter called yesterday. Talked with her for a long time. All sorts of crazy stuff going on back home.

Monday, Monday.... Spring ends tomorrow.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

It is 67.1°F here on our way to 93°. No chance of rain.

Looks like a good day to spray a little roundup.

On the Founding Fathers: James Madison is my 3rd cousin. He never had any kids so a cousin is as close as you can get. He also had a cousin named Zachary Taylor. He is my 3rd cousin also. The Taylor connection is there for five U.S. Presidents, part of the Virginia connection.

Good morning folks.

Just back from my quick trip to Kentucky. Got to spend the first part of father's day with my 91-year-old dad. A precious moment. All three of my kids came through with heartfelt and touching acknowledgements of the day, so it went about as well as a day can go which includes a 600 mile drive.

We stayed in a hotel so as to not burden my parents.

We went to bed early Saturday night anticipating a long drive.

*At 3am a defective smoke detector woke us up. I tried to disable it, and thought I had, but
* At 3;20 am, it woke us up again. This time I stormed downstairs and demanded a different nearby room. The guy gave me one, but when I got back upstairs my wife said she thought my second efforts to disable the thing had worked, so we decided to sleep there.
* At 4:am we're awakened by a banging on the door: The night manager had decided to come up and fix the thing. I sent him scurrying with a verbal barrage.
* We fall back asleep, but at 4:45am, the smoke detector misfires again. This time we do drag down the hall to the "other" room and finally fall back to sleep.

In the morning, I went to check out, bleary eyed and facing a ten hour drive. The desk clerk says, "how was your stay?" I say, "We had to switch rooms in the middle of the night after repeatedly being awakened by a defective smoke detector."

And, I swear, he answered, "Well, I'm glad we were able to give you another room. I hope you enjoyed it!" I decided to take the high rode, and just nodded and walked away. But I have to admit I didn't see giving us a place to crash after ruining our sleep as a something worthy of them bragging about.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 81°F and partly cloudy. Today's high should check in above 100°F. We hit 103°F yesterday. Hiked two miles through it.

Two local men in their early 60s shot and killed each other yesterday. Crazy.

First day of summer. Bet we shatter 2011 record of 90 triple-digit days.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Good Morning. It is 69.8°F and sunny in Smiths Grove. We are supposed to top out at 95°F. So far the humidity is in the low 40's and hopefully it will stay low. I may be inside most of the day. I may spray a little more round up on some plants as it is effective quickly in hot weather.

Have a happy day folks.

My wife and I were watching a cheesy 1980s movie with Angie Dickinson last night - she had it going on in the looks department well into her 50s. My wife asked as an idle question: How long did she live? I thought I remembered her dying in the 1990s, so I guessed 75. Wrong. She's still alive at 91, and apparently doing well, which shocked me. I would have sworn I read of her death.

Coincidentally, I'm talking to William Shatner's handlers today about an interview for later this summer (I'll hire a writer, though I'm sort of intrigued by him so I might do it.) He's also 91 -- and the exact same age as my father - born on the same day in March, 1931. And he went up in a spaceship last year. Pretty cool. Squeeze out every drop you can, Captain Kirk!

Good Morning D,
He is not related to me! 😁
He was Yankee. They always know more than you about your doing. Even if they've never done it and over 2000 miles away. And they'll charge you for that. I liked them alot on 9/11. Still don't know why. Something about loving your neighbor I suppose. Unlike them Texicans. They love you back. They're bigger & louder but love you back. . . . Just don't turn yours. They cain't shoot straight either. That's why we had to rescue them. Good use of Tennesseans., that Alamo.

Morning Legionnaires!

Mid to upper 90's today with moderate winds. Playing the last two games of the regular season (softball) tonight with the state tourney slated for the weekend of 22-24 July.

Going to train my student at noon today getting her prepared for a karate tournament this coming Saturday. She texted me yesterday voicing concerns about the tourney and whether she was still wanting to go or not (jitters). I reminded her she has already paid for it. She has taken a step up in the competition and is worried she will let me down.

Maybe fishing tomorrow morning if I get up in time. Depends on how late I stay out after the games tonight. Ordered $178.00 worth on new lures this morning due in on Friday. Will fish Sunday regardless.

I have that movie, Captain Blood, and Gentlemen Jim... A couple cowboy movies too.
Errol was quite the movie swashbuckler. Not everyone knows, but his son Sean Flynn lived a brief life out of one of his dad's adventure movies.

An actor at an early age, he gave it up to become a war photographer with Time magazine, covering fighting in the Six-Day War in Israel, then later in Vietnam where he traveled with Green Berets and other combat units. He and a comrade disappeared after heading down a dangerous road in Cambodia in 1970. Never seen again.

He's said to be the model for the Dennis Hopper character in Apocalypse Now. Clash fans might appreciate this eerie tune about his life...
