D-League

Home repairs today cost more than my first house. I bought a 3 bedroom, 2 bath and attached garage CBS home with a Spanish tile roof for a little over $10,000 in 1970. For another $1,500, it came completely furnished including dishes, silverware and garden tools in the garage. Lawn mower and all.

I bought it from a New Yorker who found out after he moved down here he did not like sunshine. He had completely furnished the house with furniture for this climate and didn't want to take it back to Buffalo so I got a good deal.

Now it costs me more to drill an irrigation well than that house cost.
My first house in Okolona, KY was a whopping $17,000. Ten years ago my new roof cost over $10,000.

My old house in Jacksonville just sold and I am embarrassed at what I sold it for. I was a sucker.

If you grew up in the South in the 1950's or early 1960's, chances are you had a pickup with a gun rack and the gun racks was full. Nobody I knew used their rifles or shotguns to commit a crime and certainly no one threatened a school. Something has changed in our culture over the years and we are in a mess now. We probably had more guns in families then, percentage wise, than now. I don't recall knowing anyone who did not have at least a squirrel gun. Evil has entered the American scene.

No lie, I've had everyone of them, many, multiple times. (Even the Darned gizzards but I conquered that ailment.)(And I had Frog Legs once, just once...)(I don't do those no more neither, don't even like to think about them...)

I was born a Michigander.... sigh... (It's the common sewer in me. Or is that connoisseur.. I always mix those up...)

I got 31, but it would have been better if it had been about 26. Several of those were a one off, what the hell, type of thing.

I"ve had liver and onions, not iiver mush. I've had rabbit fried and grilled, never had the stew. I've had oysters in a casserole, but not an oyster casserole. Those things I would eat again.

Have to admit I was soused when I ate that souse meat sandwich. BUT, I had another one...

Good afternoon! Home from the golf course with dishes waiting on me. Shot a 74 today and was not happy at all. Had an eagle and 3 birdies on the day but wiped them out with 3 double bogies and a bogie. Double bogied 18 just so I couldn't shoot a par for the day.

Today's and tomorrow's games are bullshit anyway. Not the premise. We are playing red, white, and blue tees for this week. We usually do it on the week of the 4th of July when it seems to make more sense. Bullshit because we can't use the scores to adjust handicaps. Good thing for me. This 74 would knock me down to a 4. My handicap is now 5. 3 is the lowest I ever got when I was playing this course and the course plays much harder now than it did 20 years ago.

I am a better putter than I was then, but my driver and irons are not as accurate. Technology has allowed me to keep up. Big shout out to Ibuprofen as well! Their slogan should be "60 is the new 40, Better Living Through Chemistry"

I counted that one because I did take a bite of it one time. ONE TIME! I don't remember where it was but I was working someplace and those people thought that shit was food! I've ate Vienna Sausages, I'm no prude. I think sardines are a delicacy. Oil, Mustard, Hot Sauce, I don't care, I love those things with crackers. That souse shit though? I'd vote for 40 round magazines before I would OK that crap.

Day 1 down. Good news though. They sent 2 1/2 crews so they'll finish with the sewer reroute tomorrow. The trench isn't as wide as I thought but man it's still a hell of a lot of dirt. The basement, especially the laundry room looks like a bomb went off.

I have had every one of them. As I counted 42. Many times for each. Liver mush is to die for. It is a Western North Carolina delicacy and also found in South Carolina in Up State. We lived in Valdese, NC a few years and it was a huge breakfast food. Mama fried it for breakfast but it was also a good supper food. My favorite brand is Jenkins. Unfortunately we do not get it in Florida but I have friends in Hickory, NC that send it down to me when I want some. I love the stuff. Shelby, NC is famous for it and even have a Liver Mush Festival

One thing missing from the list is Swamp Cabbage. But I imagine it would only be known in areas that have Sable Palms or a Cabbage Palm because that is where you get it.

While my wife was gone I maneuvered the speakers to be optimal for my seating position. I moved them about 3 feet from the wall and aimed each at my seat. I forgot to put things back before she got home and she called me on it as soon as we sat down. I was caught off guard.

Today, I sat in her seat and came up with an arrangement where she can see the full tv and I can have the sweet spot with the speakers. We're both happy, but for different reasons. Even Steven.

Gas went from $4.27 to $4.59 here today. At this rate, I'll just have my work check direct deposited to the local gas station in another month or so.
I wish it would hurry up and get to 5 so I can feel like I'm REALLY helping Ukraine.

Here's the game plan according to my understanding of the duplicity of the democrat party.

Gas will continue to increase in price until January 10 2023. This is the date that the last place candidate for the Democrat party will become the Defacto President of the United States. We WILL have a black woman President whether we like, or voted for it, or not.

This is the world we have created for ourselves. Identity politics dictates that you no longer have to prove yourself. You can merely hide behind and piggyback off of your particular minority.

My Marantz processor has Audyssey room correction built in. It works well but I still have to tweak using a sound level meter.

No doubt in my mind that, a California whore was able to suck a dick and become the President of the United States. What am I supposed to rule out after that? This is a bad plot to a terrible straight to digital youtube movie.

If Harris becomes President, then the masses should take to the streets. The Emperor will obviously be naked at that point.

Don't be "chipping" the dishes mind you....

I am with you on that for sure. I distinctly remember those "sandwiches". To this day I still have some things I wish I had just, not, done... (A souse meat sandwich falls into that category...) :(

FR, I am from Central City here in the Berg, North always had a good team. Who did you play for? I remember the night Patrick scored I think it was 71, was listening to it on the radio, they were saying by the time the game was over that the gym was packed, because people were listening and going to the school to see the game!!! I read a lot of your posts, I am a Cardinal fan to, I go back to Musial!!!! I remember the Gibson, Boyer gang. I also remember Larry Jaster one year, I think he pitched like 6 shutouts in one season against the Dodgers. I could be wrong, Mrs. M says I am!!!!!

Musial, Gibson, and Boyer were before my time. Heard a lot of stories about them from my Dad. Back when I was a kid, they weren't on tv much, use to ride around with Dad with Jack Buck on the radio a lot. That was the Ozzie, Willie McGee, Vince Coleman, Whitey Herzog days...we use to go up to St. Louis 2 weekends a summer for a series when I was young.

Always really enjoyed listening to Gibson when they interviewed him over the years on tv. I was always a big history guy, so anything I could watch or read about Musial and those guys I did. I hope you are getting to watch them this year, great mix of guys about to retire and really exciting young players. Plus, Goldschmidt is having his best season with the Cards. Actually having a monster season so far: extending his hitting streak tonight to 22 or 23 games, batting .356 on the year.

Cord, I played against Sparks. I don't want to talk about that...bad memories hahaha

Good morning from ATX. Currently 78°F and cloudy. Humid. Getting a light sprinkle as I type this. Few drops. Today's high expected around 93°F. Weatherman said last night our area just experienced the highest average monthly temperature for month of May on record. Dog days of summer already upon us. Hope we receive more rain soon.

New Greyhound bus station began operation yesterday. Much further away than former location. Bah!

Happy Hump Day. Back in the office tomorrow.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Never - NEVER - read Rafters on a rattling subway car.

I could have sworn I just read that Jacob Toppin was retiring from basketball and that Jerry Tipton was vowing to return to take care of unfinished business.

I hadn't heard anything about either of them until I read your post, so I had to get caught up on the basketball news. I'm a big Toppin fan, he can guard anyone on the floor...maybe doesn't do any one thing great, but he does everything well. He had a good first half against St. Peter's and Cal sit him pretty much the whole second half for reasons I don't understand. Always have wanted Cal to play him more.

Jerry Tipton...ugghhh. Zero respect for that guy. You know when Kelenna Azubuike was at UK...that was back when I bought and read newspapers daily...Tipton on many occasions made sure everyone knew about Azubuike's fathers legal or criminal issues. It really had nothing to do with the team, there was no purpose for it...his dad didn't live locally around Lexington. Why was a sports writer constantly bringing it up? It was like he was going out of his way to embarrass the kid, I found it bizarre but that was Tipton.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

Much rain, high winds, and tornado watches last night just before and after midnight. More rain expected today with highs in the upper 70's.

Got to play both games last night before the rain came in. Used the new bat and it felt good as I went 5-9 overall with two of the 4 times I did not get on base very hard hit line drives right at the shortstop. We lost the first game but managed to salvage the night by winning the second. Should not have lost the first one as it was to a team that was winless so far this year. Our team played like we were supposed to win without trying. The team we did beat is tied for first in our league so...Sound familiar?

I turned a single into a triple (first game) as there was a runner at second when I hit the ball and he went for the score. Knowing the outfielder would try and showcase his arm by throwing home and not keep the split I did not slow down rounding first. His throw was offline, and the ball careened around the backstop going up the third base line. The guy playing third went to get the loose ball and the shortstop did not cover. I did not slow down seeing this and rounded for third. He got the ball and ran back to try and tag me out. Doing the Pete Rose dive into third he did not get the tag in on time. My teammates started laughing saying: "What are you doing old man?" Are you trying to hurt yourself?" I said: "No, I am trying to win." Did get a bruise and some scrapes on my left forearm but, not bad. Enjoyed the night regardless.

Well, wife just left for work and my shop dojo is calling for my workout. Will be a light one this morning since I did not get back until around 23:00 last night just before the rain started and two cups of coffee can only do so much to get me going when tired.

Enjoy your day folks.

It is a sunny 68.2°F and we are supposed to get to 90.

Jerry Tipton should not be allowed in the building where UK is playing. He is a total turd.
I certainly agree. He is the main reason I cancelled by mail subscription to the Lexington Herald way back before internet. I was a hack and tried everything in his power to destroy the basketball program. And he started his first day on the job.

I often think he was hired to do just that. The local Lexington paper has been anti-UK athletics for many years

Hello,
I have been monitoring my health to watch my breathing, concerned about the ticker (Really CAD as I have been told a while ago I had some build up of plaque but changed a lot.). (No reason I know of, just being cautious.) My Dad or my Maternal Grandpa never had any issues and I have had a nuclear stress test a couple years ago. I still dress out at 220 which is about 15 pounds more than I think I should weigh. (Forget that BMI chart crap, that is just stupid. I could weigh 143 and be considered very healthy and I doubt I weigh 143 a year after they put me in the ground.)

In any event when we went crabbing the BB got lazy and wanted me to carry him on my back. From our car to the pier we crab is nearly a half mile lacking about 500 feet. I carried him on my back to the pier. A while later he had to do his business but there are no facilities so, I put him on my back and then carried him on my shoulders back to the car so he could hide better, then I carried him back again. (Three trips with a 38 pound BB on my shoulders or back and I didn't get to deep breathing and I stepped up my pace on purpose.) I am thankful...

He was hoofing it... 😁 (I never had the luxury of being fleet-footed. I was a plodder at best. I did run road guard in the Army some so I have that to remember..)

You mentioned one of my boyhood heroes, Stan Musial. Out of high school my father played semi-pro baseball for a coal company in Pike Co, KY and just across the river was Williamson, West Virginia. The St Louis Cardinals had a Class D minor league team in Williamson called the Red Birds. Stan was a rookie on that team in 1938 and Dad played an exhibition game against them. He got an extra base hit off of him.

Stan Musial was still in high school when he pitched for Williamson. But after a few months in the minors Stan The Man showed he could hit and his was switched to the outfield. The rest is history and he is now among the immortals. I really enjoyed watching Stan Musial. He had a very unique batting stance unlike any batter ever. Notice the feet close together.

I love the road grays from the 1950s and early 1960s. To me. that's when the "look" and feel of baseball reached its peak. The teams I saw come into Crosley in those days all had a clean, distinctive identity - Cubs, Cards, Dodgers, Giants, Braves and so on. Here's one of my boyhood idols in Cincy's road grays.

Frankie would drop that bat over his right shoulder before swinging away. He was another classic for the ages. I agree with you on the old style uniforms.

Today's mult-colors look like soft ball teams did in the 1950 and 60's. Give me home white and road gray too.
