D-League

Good morning D-League.

We still have pleasant weather with 61° right now with clear skies and a nice breeze. The high will reach 82°.

I had a new well pump put in last week and the sprinklers are in need of a good cleaning to get rid of a few sand particles coming up with the water. The water is clearing up so it will work out OK. I have nine zones that I need to check out so that could take up most of my day today. There is always something to keep this old boy busy around here.

I trust all have a nice day and prayers are continuing for CORD and his family. Read Matthew 27

AARP or AMAC? Anyone here a member of either? Was reading about both yesterday because I received correspondence in the mail yesterday about AMAC which is endorsed by Allen West.

AMAC

AARP has been supporting anti-constitutional candidates and measures through sizable donations. (Although there aren't many pro-constitutional candidates these days.)

Paging @MdWIldcat55 who perhaps still works for AARP?

Wife and I are former members. I thought AARP was okay.

Things were a little different when I was a Drill Instructor at Knox. Our troops didn't see a girl for 8 weeks much less have one commanding them. Get that leg up in a defensive position you pussy.

Ye ole Pile Cap. I still have mine.
Still have my pile cap, too. Our OSUT ran for 12 weeks with no women. After 20 years service and three deployments, the crap got old.

When that picture was taken it was less than 5 degrees. It had been -3 overnight. I usually had on my Smokey Bear hat but this temperature would freeze your ears.

A very tragic thing happened that day in another company close by. A truck with trainees slid off of the road into the ditch. A wrecker came out and hooked up but many of the trainees got behind the truck to push and one was close to the real wheels and was killed.

It was a sad day because we had trained with that company and many in our company knew some of the troops. While I was at Knox we had two men killed in our company. One was killed in Elizabethtown in a car accident. He was a cook's helper. PFC. A second was killed on Dixie Highway coming back from Louisville. Alcohol was a factor. He was the Company Clerk. A Specialist.

My BIL and SIL (My Darlings older sister) are visiting.. We are having such a fine time. Wasted 30 years but we are having a great time. I bought a 10 pound box of King Crab legs and a few pounds of Ribeyes. Been fighting my BIL all the way where I'M paying.

Went to the shooting range today. Me and the BIL. I am the proud owner of an SKS. (My BIL built it and gave it to me. Shot about 60 rounds today along with 20 rounds with one of his pistols and 20 with one of mine. What a find 4.5 or so miles from my house. I also bought two boxes of .380 ammo for $40.00 a box. (50 round boxes). Wish I could get awf some. @awf

The shooting range has more... awf if you see this they have more. My BIL lives in Radcliff. We are driving by there again in the morning. If interested let me know. Plus tax but I know my BIL wouldn't mind meeting you in Radcliff sometime after they return home in a day or two.
If I am not too late.........I would like four boxes and I will meet him where he wants me to meet him......got the cash in my pocket....

The stretch of US 31W between Kosmosdale, KY and Ft. Knox has taken so many lives......for the most part it is not patroled by the police much and people fly........you add that to the young (mostly) men that are drinking....and heading back to the base.......the area is really bad when it is raining......I have lost three friends along that stretch of road and had a close call myself one time........

Warrior and Austin, Yes, I help edit the publications for AARP - the AARP Bulletin and the AARP Magazine. Those publications have pretty useful information on personal finance, health issues for people over 50, and some other stuff to entertain. For example, right now I'm editing an interview with Mel Brooks which is very interesting and a package of profiles of people who were impacted by Pearl Harbor, which includes an interview with one of two living survivors of the USS Arizona and also with a Japanese American in Hawaii when the attack occurred who then joined the US Army and fought in Europe. (You can read these stories and more in our upcoming December issue.) We have 40 million members.

That said, lots of people find AARP is too liberal for their tastes. For example, we strongly advocate for Social Security and Medicare to be strengthened as a life line for poorer old people. And we're for the provisions of Obamacare that guarantee older people not yet eligible for Medicare couldn't be kicked off their private insurance.

I don't know much about that other group, AMAC, except that it bills itself as a conservative alternative to AARP. I think it is tiny relative to AARP, but it may be growing.

It doesn't hurt my feelings when people criticize AARP for being too liberal, or if they find the other group more in tune with their values. I'm comfortable that what I'm doing is helping educate and inform tens of millions of people every month.

One point I will make -- Some people falsely circulate the story that AARP endorsed Obama or donated money to Democrats or lobbied for Democrats. That is totally false. Under federal law, AARP is a non-partisan, non-political organization, and would be severely sanctioned for any violation of that status. The only political stuff we do is voter education. For example, I interviewed both Trump and Biden last summer. Both were happy to talk with us. I asked them the same questions and we reprinted their answers verbatim. Our lawyers went over ever syllable to make sure the interviews were fair and balanced.

So, good luck deciding which group, if either, fits you.

Last week, when we had unseasonably warm temperatures I saw the weather channel blaming it on global warming. Then I noticed that our highs were just one degree higher than the previous record, which was set in 1896. Wonder if they called it global warming back then?
And they never address the increasing size of the Antarctic ice cap.

I am close to a global warming denier. We are 10,000 years out from an ice age. We got out of the "little" ice age at the end of the 18th Century after the Medieval Warming Period stopped and the cold moved in. Folks in Europe were starving because crops failed for decades. So I don't believe much of what I here and read.

Did I just say that I don't believe much of what I hear and read. The way that they extrapolate average temperatures from centuries before there was a way to even measure temperatures is questionable at best and simply stupid at worse. Then they measure carbon dioxide percentages from gas trapped in ice is questionable also. It would be good science to get an approximation; however, they break it down to ppm. It is a guess at best, but they tend to hang their hat on it being exact when they are estimates at best.

And now we are willing to wreck our economy and lives on what is at best assumptions.

I don't see either of those issues as liberal, so if that's why people were against it, I don't get it. I had listened to something on the radio years ago that AARP had endorsed someone on the left, and donated to campaigns. If that was a lie, and it wouldn't surprise me now, I hope the people that put the story out choke on their martini olives.

Just remember that AARP pushed Obama care and screwed the old folks bad.
You are right on that Bert, but wrong that AARP supported Democratic candidates. It would be illegal to do so. Absolutely never happened. If any Conservative group could identify one dollar of AARP money getting anywhere near a Democratic candidate, they'd blow it up into a huge story.

So much of "science" now is akin to the reliability of a PCR test as a diagnostic tool.

AARP has 38 million members while AMAC has 2.4 million and growing. One of the articles I read said that AARP did give money to both political parties (8 million more to the left somehow not sure how) and that they have been in trouble legally before because of it (validity?). AARP while having a larger base was losing members according to the article and that AMAC was growing. Because of the losses in members they (AARP) have opened up eligibility to everyone but not necessarily all of the elderly benefits. Benefits all told favored AARP but probably because they have been around a lot longer. AMAC was formed around 2006 or so I believe and took a boost in membership since 2016. Some replies in the article talked about how both were not informative enough on some of their numbers when coming to discounts on areas like medical, dental, and other types of supplementary insurance for Medicare. It also stated that they don't explain about doing your own search for benefits that could be cheaper than the services they provide i.e. car rentals and hotel stay discounts which through them often times cost more since they use some of the higher priced services. I was just wondering about D-league experience as an added information venue since most here if not all are old enough to be members.

Yes, that was a lie, Girthang. Period.

It would be illegal under AARP's tax status as a non-partisan, non-profit advocacy organization. They'd never risk that status by donating to ANY candidate, endorsing ANY candidate or giving money to ANY organization that did endorse or fund a candidate. I can asure you taht never happened. Lawyers go over every word we write to make sure we don't violate our status as non-partisan.

Now, did AARP endorse Obamacare? Yes. and millions of members quit over it. It was before my time, but the rationale was that it helped poor old people get better health care. I don't personally hold that view, and have no quarrel with anyone who disagrees.

Morning folks. It is a sunny 50.9°F here. At 7:00 am it was 44° which ain't bad for the 19th of October. We have not had a frost yet and sometimes it will frost around the middle of the month.

A bunch of Sherry's classmates got together for diner. It was a good time. I stuffed my self and had two beers which is rare for me but beer goes good with Tex Mex food.

You all have a good day and don't hate me for the anti-AARP stuff, but I recall some of the lies that they told to help get Obama care passed.

The link below from Sciencetimes seems to debunk the global warming people.

I never stated that they supported Democratic candidates. My gripe is Obama care.

Still miss you over on the nat’l board. I understand your stance, but I love how your presence sends people into overdrive.

Bert, I can only speak for myself: I'd think less of you or any of the D-Leaguers who didn't speak their mind on their beliefs. All I'll ever do here by way of my job is correct things I know to be false. As we all know, thewre is lots of bad info floating around out there.

Hate that Dick has cancer. Helped him at a UK game in Rupp about 30 years ago and from then on, he always made a point of coming to see me anytime he was broadcasting there. A lot of people don’t care for him and I could do without a lot of his schtick, but it’s mostly an on camera act. He is a really nice guy in person.

Yep, he drives me crazy but he is a good guy.

Another thing is that most folks in Florida don't understand that Florida is full of UK and UL Doctors.

Yes because just about anyone can right a review these days on Google and other forums.
