D-League

I got the big eye tonight and am bored. Please share some nightmares.

May have to search some of gassy's posts, the dude eats some stuff only wayfaring pirates would eat. (The brother is a vegan if that tells you anything or he sure likes their cookbook.) Has hints of tofu and gets more obnoxious from there. I'd have to do some searching but he has some, how shall I state it; Unique concoctions... I will see if I can look some up but....

Just got my LG&E bill (late Christmas mail delivery). They slipped in a notice to customers that they're seeking an 11.6% increase in electricity and an 8.3% increase in gas. Great news right before Christmas. Evil bastards.

Wait till Biden's EPA gets finished with you. You will look upon the last four years as the "Good Old Days."

I like gizzards, liver not so much. I do like calf liver and prefer it raw. Don't care much for kidneys either. My favorite food growing up was the gray squirrel. Mammaw made squirrel stews, pies, casseroles, southern fried, glazed in an oven. Anyway it could be prepared it was. It could be served for any meal. My Papaw showed me hollers where family planted scattered walnut and chestnut trees and let the squirrels produce the groves in top secret locations. They had chickens for eggs, ate hunted wildlife, wild caught fish and sold the tobacco for cash. I'm a truly omnivorous creature and every bite a blessing.

Raw calf liver? Gag me. Rooster, they should have cast you in Silence of the Lambs.

Oh, my bad, never mind then. If it doesn’t have meat in it, then I’m out. Got teeth for a reason.

I read that it was considered sweet by many native American cultures and a spiritual acknowledgement to life so I gave it a shot . . . to my surprise I liked it. I was alone. I had to know. Now the family being civilized some 500 years, it's not regular cuisine.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 59°F with a slight drizzle. Expecting a little more rain, but not a drought-buster. Today's high should reach 66°F. It's all good.

Game Day! Go Cats! We're 16-24 all time against those Tarheels, 6-3 in the Cal era. Let's make it 17-24 and 7-3.

Wishing happiness and health to all our fellow D-League members.

Beautiful sunset in Mt. Vernon, KY today.

EpjX_pHW8AEOR7I
Went spelunking with a couple guys who knew what they were doing years ago around Mt. Vernon. That was fun...scary at times....but fun.

Pretty country up there. I’m at the tail waters on the other side, about one and one half hours from there. Cumberland is a massive lake.
Dad had property and a cabin on the Burnside end of the lake. Lot of good memories. Nice retreat during college days for a weekend if I wanted.

Finally saw the sun yesterday. Was still chilly but the sun warmed things up and most of the little snow we had early in the week is gone. A few patches here and there. Getting up to about 40 today.
Long range forecast says a chance of snow/flurries Christmas Eve night and Christmas with a low of about 16 and a high in the mid-20s for Christmas. So, it'll feel like Christmas. With a little luck, maybe a small chance for a little white stuff for Santa.

My oldest son is a weather/meteorologist nut. Have always told him he should have gotten a degree in it and become a weatherman. Only job/career I know where you can be wrong more than right, and not only keep your job but get promoted.

Y'all have a good Saturday...and don't eat anything that you may regret tomorrow.

Good Saturday Morning

Just realized this is the last Saturday before Christmas. I wouldn't have known but my wife told me she is meeting our daughter to take a trip down to the big city and do some shopping. The local TV said stores, malls and shopping centers will be crowded. I don't do shopping so I wouldn't know.

The girls will need to take a sweater because we are sitting at 45° but it is sunny and will hit 69° by mid day. No chance of rain and there are no active alerts in the Gulf in case the women decide to get on a boat. Things should be clam.

So everyone have a nice Saturday and keep it between the lines

Speaking of Opossum, this is some truly good eating.

I ate possum when I was a boy. We had friends from church who lived way out in the woods and their dad was the type to literally live off of the land and wildlife. After Sunday morning church I would often go spend the day with him and would return for Sunday night service. Several times his mother fixed possum and sweet potatoes.

When I became an adult I had it a few times when it was served up on wild game retreats a bunch of us men took together near Cedar Key. But that all ended from an incident I had in San Angelo, Texas on a very large ranch outside of town.

There was a large pipeline and pumping station that ran across the ranch and one of the gas turbines blades failed shutting it down. As I was inspecting the turbine and talking to the engineer about repairs I noticed a dead and rotten cow about 50 yards away. A possum was crawling out of the rear end of that thing. The rancher told me the possums crawl into the intestines and eat grain or corn that may be in the cows stomach or intestines. That was one of the nastiest things I have ever witnessed and it brought a halt to my possum eatin'. Never again. There are some things that even I will shy away from when it comes to eating and possum up dead cows rear ends are at the top of the list.

Yes that would do it.

Glad I had already ate breakfast before reading this. Started off good...but............

Had a friend that used to eat soft shell turtles. He and I were trot lining for catfish one week and were catching lots of hard shell turtles, which he didn’t eat. I would just take my 22 pistol and shoot them and they would sink to the bottom of the creek. Well, it was very hot, and in a few days they floated back to the top. Stunk like crazy. He ate a mess of turtle one night for supper, and woke up in the middle of the night thinking about that stink. Said he ran out the back door and threw up for an hour. He never ate turtle again.

A little trivia for the D...and a little uh-oh, hmmm moment as well.

Monday, December 21, is the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims going ashore at Plymouth. Dec. 21, 1620. Many feel that America has been bless by God in that it is the only nation/country founded for the express purpose of worshiping Him.

The same day, Monday, the 'Christmas Star' will be visible for the first time in almost 800 years. It's the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn to seem like it's one. Last seen in 1226.
'Jupiter and Saturn will be at their nearest alignment about 1:20 p.m. EST Dec. 21 and it will be visible in the daytime sky with a “really good pair of binoculars or a backyard telescope,”

With all that's going on in 2020...........

Didn't Turtleman die?

I promise no more food stories today.

I got a text this morning from a friend who asked me if I thought UK had a chance of beating UCLA today. I texted him back that I will send him a $1,000 bill if UK beats UCLA today.

The 1990 movie with Matthew Modine? Pretty good movie. Been years since I've seen it. Might look it up.
The original Army movie of when they filmed the plane/crew is on I believe Netflix.
They put the Belle on display at the Air Force Museum outside Dayton, OH about two years ago. Seems I read where it took a number of years to restore it. I've seen it there a couple of times.

Yes.

I have a nightmare, I walked up to this lady setting in a car and I said wow those have to be 45'S, she said no they are not! She then reached over to the seat beside her, picked up two guns and said, THESE ARE 45'S! Woke up sweating!!!! Night D!!

She must have been a large woman. It may have been worse if she had said, "No, they're 48's" and pulled down her top to show you. :)

My uncle had a cabin, just about a mile up the road from Conley Bottom dock. That was a great area to camp and go skiing.

Guess it's a coincidence, but before I wrote about you being cast in the movie, I started to say that you should have been born Native American about 200 years ago.

Except for the liver, you just described me. Grew up eating whatever was easiest to catch and available. That’s why I prefer those things now as I’m getting older. Fried squirrel, biscuits and gravy is still one of my favorite things. Nobody made it better than my grandma.

Squirrel dumplings are my favored.

I never liked rabbit, but my wife loves rabbit and does not like squirrel.

I have never eaten raw liver but hell I would try it. Raw seafood is good. I like my steaks near raw, even though late in life I have been grilling them a couple minutes longer.

Here we go again: My poetic capabilities only go so far.
