D-League

Up too early.

Have to pick up Dad from dialysis at 1100 and take him to an appointment. This one is for routine maintenance so it won't be too bad.

Even before we lost Saturday the powers that be were talking about the 3 ACC teams and the Zags being 1 seeds. We probably would have just been a higher 2 seed if we had won.

Typical fake news playbook move of simultaneously pumping up UNC wins over Duke, even though they were without Zion, and downplaying or dismissing Duke's losses because they were without Zion.

Yeah, it's tough for the talking heads this week. They want to dismiss Duke's losses because they were without Zion, but they want to tout UNCheat's wins over them at the same time. Somehow they do it. Bunch of hypocrites.

When we took our 23 day trip out west, in 2017, we went through Abilene on our way from Amarillo to San Antonio. I remember seeing Abilene Christian's campus. Don't recall much about the campus as we just passed by, but Abilene is a nice town.
I visited Abilene and was very impressed with the town. I think the population is about 170,000 and they have 7 colleges in the city. Several are religious institutions. Years ago we played Hardin - Simmons which is also located in Abilene.

Back in the fifties, to early sixties, my Dad smoked 2 packs of those unfiltered cancer causers a day. Luckily, he would only take two puffs off one and then throw it down. Then, on his next break he would light another and do the same thing. He quit about 1964 and never smoked another for his remaining 52 years.

Back in the7th grade, I got into a fight and beat up a kid that tried to get me to smoke cigarettes.

Hey there D-League,

It's a cool, brisk 47 degrees here in Hamilton Co, TN. with brilliant, cobalt blue skies, headed for low 60's today.

I was out yesterday, very busy in the evening, so I missed the entire bracket selection show lineup. It's just as well anyway, I figure, since most of those talking heads are about as accurate in predicting games as I am. We can speculate, guess, ponder, and worry about the what-ifs, but that will just drive us mad; just got to see how it all plays out as many of the top seeds will inevitably go down prematurely.

Im going to enjoy a week off from work

We were just passing through, but we did stay overnight. Since Ashland has a very nice Paramount theater that was restored, I was interested in the one there in Abilene. I don't think it is as nice as the one in Ashland, but it has been restored and is a neat place. We had a very good steak at a restaurant called the Beehive Restaurant. Visited a couple of antique stores that evening when we arrived and just generally decompressed from traveling. They also had a nice western museum that was interactive. I enjoyed what little time we were there.

Same old song, different verse.

I think that the ESPN guys actually influence the seeding with their constant reinforcement of their favored teams.

Right on Bert. I believe it too. They knew the seeding before they were announced. Probably a couple of days before the games were played. I know I am skeptical but I have seen this played out for a long time now. I go back to the Billy Packer days when he was the lead cheerleader for the ACC

Billy Pecker.

In 1986 I moved to Houston, Texas. That year I spent a wad of money on a large satellite dish because I was afraid, I would not get the Kentucky games. So, in 1986 I had cable and a sat dish. When the NCAA came along one of the regions was in Houston, so that games were not on cable. I was forced to watch them on sat and at that time they left the mics open and no commercials. Billy Pecker was doing the UNC game and LSU was playing Georgia Tech in another region. LSU was pounding sand up Georgia Tech’s butt and they were telling Billy during a time out about the score. Billy Pecker want on a tirade that there was never an SEC team capable of beating an ACC team like the LSU report. He simply refused to report the LSU win.

I saw that first hand. He was such a homer. After that I started sending letters to CBS. They never responded at all as they were part of the homerism.

Hey guys
I’m convinced we were never going to be a one seed
And steps were taken to ensure us not getting the top 2 seed
I’m sick of the bias against us

I think you're right, Bev. I think the talking heads kept spewing 3 ACC teams, and Gonzaga with their weak record, and we were never going to get a 1 whether we beat UT or not.

Our 95% free throw shooter did not get one single attempt. That needs to change.

But you know that he received more than one foul.

Doug Shows is [poop][poop]

Heard the talk today on three different radio shows about the game being called differently in the first half vs the second half. Exactly my point...

UK was not winning in the first half! Look at the difference in calls in the last 4 minutes vs the first half...or the first 10 minutes of the second half. When the game was on the line and it appeared UK would win, the game was suddenly called differently than it first was.

We were screwed and we can only hope it was due to personal bias and not a concerted effort between several entities.

Yes like Ben said he was bumped at a crucial time in the game. We just got jobbed by the refs and UT took advantage of it by hitting their shots at crunch time. Without poor refs they would not have had that chance

Heard on the Jones show this morning that with the exception of Doug Shows that all the top refs the SEC had this year, elected to go to other conference tournaments rather than ref ours. He said the reason might be that ref that got in trouble for taking a picture holding up a team jersey. I think it was LSU.

I hope not either, but I used to think the conspiracy theorists were just paranoid. After the past 6-7 years and see us get raped, over and over again, especially in the tournament, I am slowly coming over to their way of thinking. From recruiting, to officiating, to seeding, and even reporting, there is a definite bias against UK. Like you, I think the only question is, is it a coordinated effort, or just different indivduals acting on their own? I'm not sure, but I think it has to be more of the first, than the last.

That was the report I heard. They were protesting the Jordan suspension. Not sure why the SEC would suspend him. He wasn't the one who made the controversial call, and the idiots at the league office knew where he lived. They were the ones who assigned him to the game, knowing he was from Louisiana.

I am not very familiar with the situation because I just didn't care enough to read about it. He had taken a picture at one time in his life, prior to him becoming a ref, that showed him holding an LSU shirt? If that is the situation then I don't see any reason to suspend him. If he made an obvious call that went against convention, then I would have questions.

We are questioning the integrity of a specific sport. But what if we view it in the full scope of sports? How many different people in how many different sports have been proved to have cheated in some way? If we believe that everything that happens in college sports is on the up and up, then how naive are we? Way too much money, directly and indirectly, involved in having a winning sports program. Look at the meteoric rise of UL when they were given the unbridled success of winning. They were minting money by the simple process of ignoring rules and laws.

The question should not be "are college sports dirty" but rather "how dirty are college sports"?

Good morning from the City of Mermaids

It is a nice cool morning as I enjoy my second cup of coffee by the pool. 56° and we may get some rain in an hour or so. 50% chance. This will keep the high around 70.

I had planned on doing some maintenance on my lanai today weather permitting. It is time to give the travertine deck a good scrubbing and pressure wash, re-sand and set and give three liberal coats of Ure-Seal H20 that will give it richer color, a nice sheen or semi-gloss as the end result. Now if it rains we will wait for another day.

Are your brackets complete? I have the Cats bringing home number 9.

Trust all are feel well and have a nice day. Be thankful,

Good morning D League.

I have taken to getting downtown very early these days for a long walk before hitting the office. DC is really a great city for walking around when it isn't too hot or too cold. Today I ranged from the White House past the old National Press Building and the famous Ebbitt's Grill where politicians used to hang out (the location actually changed a couple decades ago, which they never tell tourists) then past the Willard Hotel where Lincoln first stayed when he visited Washington (President Grant used to cut deals in the hotel's lobby, and referred to the hangers-on there as 'lobbyists' which stuck) past the spot in Lafayette Park where in the 1850s a US senator, Daniel Sickles, gunned down the nephew of Francis Scott Key of Star Spangled Banner fame for sleeping with his wife -- then got off with the first insanity defense in American history -- then past the FBI and the Justice Department (they quietly executed some Nazi saboteurs there during WW2), to Ford's Theater where Lincoln was shot and the house where he died, and so on.

I know -- too much information. But my friends in Kentucky often ask me how I can stand to live in DC -- which, rightfully, has a bad image among many. It's the history and the connection I feel with the great movements that shaped America that I enjoy.

Good morning D-League, it's a beautiful day here in the Berg! Have you ever put something up and can't find it?!!!! One of my metal detecting trips I got to hunt on a friends property I found a metal or badge (WC will know) this find was a award given to her husband for being in the armor division in the invasion in Europe, it has a tank with lightening bolt it with at one time 3 different colors on it, it was corroded and faded but it was beautiful!! She did not want it and told me to keep it. I have put it up and cannot find it!!! I have considered it one of my most valued finds! Just hope I come across it one day!!!!
