D-League

I was trained armor too! Yes sir that would be it!!!!! I was hoping one of you would post a picture!! Thanks SC! The one I found (and lost) doesn't have the spearhead on it ,I thinking it was a separate piece.
The Third Armor without the Spearhead. The trim color tells me this looks like one out of WWII. The Army was not green during WWII. Brown was their dress colors. I served in the green army. I am not sure what they are now.

Good morning D League.

I have taken to getting downtown very early these days for a long walk before hitting the office. DC is really a great city for walking around when it isn't too hot or too cold. Today I ranged from the White House past the old National Press Building and the famous Ebbitt's Grill where politicians used to hang out (the location actually changed a couple decades ago, which they never tell tourists) then past the Willard Hotel where Lincoln first stayed when he visited Washington (President Grant used to cut deals in the hotel's lobby, and referred to the hangers-on there as 'lobbyists' which stuck) past the spot in Lafayette Park where in the 1850s a US senator, Daniel Sickles, gunned down the nephew of Francis Scott Key of Star Spangled Banner fame for sleeping with his wife -- then got off with the first insanity defense in American history -- then past the FBI and the Justice Department (they quietly executed some Nazi saboteurs there during WW2), to Ford's Theater where Lincoln was shot and the house where he died, and so on.

I know -- too much information. But my friends in Kentucky often ask me how I can stand to live in DC -- which, rightfully, has a bad image among many. It's the history and the connection I feel with the great movements that shaped America that I enjoy.

I went to D.C. on my honeymoon in October, 1963. Kennedy was killed a few weeks later (I was not on that grassy knoll) Have never been back.

I served with 3AD twice - 83-84 and 87-89. There was a 3-year tour at the Nike-Herc site sandwiched in between.

Border patrol, REFORGER, Hohenfels and Graf were a few highlights.
What a great unit history the 3AD had. General Patton commanded them in France and Germany after the Normandy invasion. My dad's best friend was a tank commander under Patton in the 3rd and boy he had some stories to tell. But you had to drag them out of him because he didn't talk about it unless you probed him. Then he would unload. But the most famous alumni of the 3rd Armored Division had to be this man.

You think maybe the Spearhead was a separate piece hanging from the medal? I just looked at my old army jacket and it has a shield with a design kinda looks like a sprocket? I have my DD214 it's hard to read but it looks like 4B 1Bde First US Army. Thank all of you for your service!!!!!

SC I had an uncle that claimed that in his unit was Red Skelton!!! I didn't know whether to believe him or not, he was a natural born liar!!!!LOL

The day President Kennedy was shot I took the SAT at UK. We were coming back home when the radio reported the shooting.

I did go to the grassy knoll afterward and I don't believe the kill shot came from anywhere but the depository. But I sure love you trying to distance yourself from the crime! :joy: That is wise.:)

SC I also found a button that has an Eagle with a square breast plate that sorta looks like a US flag and a stalk of wheat in each claw, then right above it's wings are two designs with a curly q above that, then right over the Eagles head is a globe? with what looks like a ring around it! I found this on a farm that the owner told me an elderly gentleman lived in an old one room shack. I really like find military stuff! I was told the button could be anywhere from Indian wars to WW1 or WW2! Over in Earlington Hopkins Co. I found a 50 cal lead ball!! I let my granddaughter dig it up and a soon as we figured out what it was she started asking me all kinds of questions about do you think someone shot this in the Civil War Stepaw? When she is with me I think about the song She thinks we are just fishing! Only to me it's she thinks we are just digging!!!!!

I had to do it. Because I lived across the street from a couple of his victims, I was accused of being the Golden State Killer in a thread about him some time back. I was greatly relieved when they finally caught him and I was cleared. I ain't never murdered nobody.

While watching "G.I. Blues", released in 1960, one can see pre-production shots of Elvis while he was still on active duty. Some scenes were filmed in Friedberg and the last scene, as he and the gal are driving away, in front of Welcome Inn outside Ayers Kaserne at Kirchgöns.

I served in Gelnhausen ('83-84) and Kirchgöns (87-89). Luckily, my drive from Burbach was only 41 miles down Autohahn 45 until we moved much closer to Herborn-Seelbach.

Afternoon D.
Busy morning
Filled out 2 brackets so far. Cats are champs in one of 'em & Virginia in the other one. Cant bring myself to pick UNC or Duke and nobody from the West is gonna win it. Whoever plays Duke is going to have to play an OUTSTANDING game and Duke will have to miss on their "opportunities". I just don't think the NCAA will let another team in the East get to the Final Four, other than the Zion Bluerefs.
Too much money at stake...

Good stuff Austin. I think when Elvis was in the Army he gave his pay to his fellow soldiers. He did not keep it. One thing I admired about him is he went into the Regular Army and did not try to dodge the draft or get a cushion assignment like singing to the troops. He had a combat MOS and went to Germany when it was a hot spot due to the cold war. They would have been the first to react if the Soviet Union had gone crazy.

Money meant nothing to Elvis. He spent it and gave it away lavishly. It drove his old man nuts.

That's what I like about the D-League, things can be discussed without beating them up!!! Thanks for allowing me in!!!! One of these days I am gonna learn how to post pics of some of my finds! Hey SC and all other military vets I was looking thru my finds and found another military button, all this one had on it was a big US, not sure which era this one was from!!!!

Man I have been just about useless today, but I am surprising my wife with supper tonight since she has to work till 5. Took some pork chops, breaded them with flour, put a crust on them, placed them in a pan, then put some water in the skillet and scraped all the good stuff together then poured it over the chops and bake them till she gets home, plus some rice and baked tater!!!!! Got to stay on her good side!!!!!Also got all the dishes washed up,got to stay ahead!!! This was my mom's recipe for the chops!!!

“An apparent injury to leading scorer PJ Washington had Big Blue Nation on red alert Tuesday afternoon.

A UK spokesman told the Herald-Leader and other media outlets that Washington has been in a walking boot for “precautionary reasons” since Sunday, and any further updates to his status would come Wednesday in Jacksonville, where the Cats begin NCAA Tournament play Thursday night.

UK is scheduled to have an open practice and media availability session Wednesday.

The No. 2 seed Wildcats take on No. 15 seed Abilene Christian at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday in the NCAA Tournament round of 64 in Jacksonville.”

Hello all! Back in from the day out with Dad. Had a blast.

What did PJ do? That would doom our chances.

Congrats Bev!

Bought a new wok setup today. I'll be able to use it on my cook table. Already went out and checked on the wok ring fits perfectly around my burner. Don't have to worry about the smoke if I'm outside.

Also bought a new pair of golf shoes today. Supposed to play tomorrow and while the last pair is very comfortable, they look the worse for wear.
