CI Wrestling Thread #56

Did Rude ever have a bad match - even his matches with ultimate warrior were pretty good by ultimate warrior match standards

Really like the MJF stuff right now. If I'm TK, I don't care if it's Wembley, I'm putting MJF over Ospreay again and making that dude chase for the rest of the year. What turned me off to Ospreay was him being handed everything right away. Unfortunately he likely wins in London and the whole American title story dies right there.

Speaking of really's, really glad SS is Saturday. Raw's been great, SD's been sorta dull, and everything is in a holding pattern until the weekend. We need the Dom turn on Rhea, Gunther being the guy in August, Punk vs Drew actually wrestling, LA Knight finally getting some gold, Reigns and Heyman back, and Orton doing more than eyeing the title on SD.

Speaking of Saturdays like I said a couple weeks ago TK is loading up dynamite at the expense of collision - the main event tonight was lio rush vs PAC which was an afterthought wwe cruiseweight match 8 years ago.

Luckily no one got hurt on these botches.

I've only seen a clip but Hologram seems much quicker than Ricochet. I dunno, if you're TK, you've got three shows plus ROH, and these guys can also work for New Japan or CMLL occasionally. I won't crush either AEW or WWE for having bloated rosters at this point. NXT is about to bring in three badass women who will then be on Raw and SD in a couple years. It's just an ongoing thing.

What would help AEW is split rosters so we know who is where and maybe a cruiserweight division. The utter randomness of AEW matches on different shows has made some viewers walk away imo. It ain't Sting retiring, it's things still within AEW that can be fixed.

Enjoying Hologram as well. Still liking the set up of Collision in the smaller venue.
We actually someone win titles at Battle of the Belts on Saturday.
Dustin Rhodes and the Von Erich's won the ROH six-man titles.

Raw for tonight- friendly reminder it's on SyFy tonight due to the Olympics.

WWE World Tag Team Champion Finn Balor vs. GUNTHER.
Seth Rollins gives his referee's instructions for Summerslam.
Lyra Valkyria & Katana Chance & Kayden Carter vs. Sonya Deville & Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler.
Xavier Woods vs. Karrion Kross.
Sheamus vs. Bronson Reed.
The Creed Brothers vs. Akira Tozawa & Otis

I mean I know we harp on bloated roasters and duplicates (in basketball terms) on the aew roster but isn’t he just another ricochet?

Similar. He’s less muscular than Ricochet and looks to be a little faster. It reminds me of the WWE Sin Cara gimmick without the yellow light and numerous botches.

The negative is this is this another little guy in a mask doing flips, and that style of wrestler is a dime a dozen on that roster.

I'm not a fan of all the flipping and choreography. If it is tight then it's okay but when the timing is off nothing is worse.

Yeah, and the jumping out of the ring on someone. They always line up (2-3 next to each other if possible) to catch the person. We know it's "fake" but you don't have to make it look fake.

I saw someone the other day that went to do a Cody Cutter and was about to miss him. He jumped over into the cutter so he would miss him. It was so bad. 🤣

And AEW PPV's are too long...LOL
Eight hours and you've got Cody and Solo as the main event, not really interested. Cody and Jacob Fatu I'm all in on.
I'm guessing Tony ok'd that picture to be posted, otherwise I would have kept it a secret. Not sure what Shane-0-Mac would do in AEW?

Dynamite for this evening.

Hangman Page vs. Darby Allin.
Will Ospreay vs Lance Archer.
CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale vs. Kris Statlander (non-title)
AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone & Kamille to appear.
ROH Champion Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Rush & Roderick Strong & Mortos.
Renee Paquette interviews Mariah May.
Bryan Danielson to appear.

Fatu is kind of like Ospreay to me. I could watch them wrestle a mop and I’d be thoroughly entertained.

Looking forward to AEW Dynamite Underground.

I guess in an effort to save the takeover story, it wouldn't be the worst idea to have the Bucks go scorched earth and bring in Shane. They "brought in" Okada as well. They can be the guys who bring in outsiders. And in theory, who do AEW fans hate the most (besides Punk)? The McMahons. Set aside that in reality everyone seems to love Shane and Stephanie.

After the initial shock wears off, I don't know what you do then. We don't need him wrestling or going to war with TK or Chris Daniels on air. And over the last few years, his backstage ideas have been awful. He'd be the thing that gets Dynamite back over 900K though, even if it's for one episode. You say Mercedes or Copeland in AEW and no one cares. You say McMahon in AEW, and yeah, that'll make heads turn for a few weeks. If he showed up tonight, Triple H would likely be asked about it at the SS presser too.

God, I hope Tony doesn’t bring Shane in. IMHO, nothing he could bring would help AEW in the slightest.

The problem is AEW fans don’t actually “hate” Shane. Even in a working sense, Shane was always seen as the one who wanted to update the product against his dad’s wishes. At one point he was to WWF what Triple H was to NXT; the savior in waiting.

And the casual fans don’t hate him and actually are only going to see it as WWE being a bigger deal than AEW.

He also brings nothing to the table. His promos the past decade are nothing and he’s 50 years old and never a wrestler in the first place.

Darby and Hangman were great as expected.

Kind of disappointed in the Stat and Willow match tonight. But, every time Stat gives Stokely “uppies” either into or out of the ring, it never fails to crack me up.

Enjoyed the first part of Dynamite along with Swerve and Danielson and Mariah-Toni. Everything else was ok.

Fightful is reporting AEW and Warner Brothers are out of the exclusive negotiating window. Now they can talk to other networks if they choose.

Bully Ray says he talked to Shane-O-Mac and said this on Busted Open after dark.

"Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five year anniversary of AEW and look forward to how he evolves the business moving forward."
