There was a time in the Tubby era where the majority of fans knew we needed to move on. We appreciated his winning the title with Pitino’s players and all the success he had after that, but we collectively knew his days were numbered.

Am I alone in wondering if we’re not seeing the same thing with Cal? This team has absolutely no shot at being special. Next year there’s going to be a logjam, meaning more transfers and disgruntled players. It really is, and has been for the past three seasons, a hot mess.

We can all remember how, at Memphis, he assembled athletes, but not many basketball players. He’s gotten back to that, and it just doesn’t work in 2019.

We are witnessing the beginning of the end.

Blast away.

We see a post like this every season that turns out to be completely asinine at the end of the year. Expect this to resurface in a few months.

Overreaction. Shocking to see that on this forum.

They were one play from final 4 last year. And could've won it all if they got there.

Yes Evansville sucked and this game sucked. There is no great team this year. Just a bunch of good teams. Right now everyone outside of Gonzaga is trending down.

Sad to say it's true. I love Cal though - maybe he'd be willing to become a coach emeritus? Things changed in 2015 and 4 years should have been enough time to right the ship.

Gotta be honest and I never believed I would say this. I have lost interest in UK basketball. Hell, I forgot the game was coming on until I got an alert on my phone. We can't get to know these guys before they are out the door. We are told we have to watch mediocre ball until February. I for one am tired of it. I love Cal, but he has under performed here

So it was asinine last year? Or do you consider losing to a team we previously slaughtered a success? And how about the year before that? Kansas State? We’re you impressed with that coaching job?

Yes.

Remember the article that spoke of how Kentucky would just rule the world when he came? Well, we’ve won a lot. A good percentage against weak SEC competition and cupcakes. But we’ve underperformed a lot too, choked when he did have more talent than everyone else, lost quite a few home games, and lost to plenty of teams we had no business losing to.

These guys are not in the top 50 in the country. They've now lost a home game to an awful team and a neutral site game to a mediocre team

This team is a borderline tournament team. Meaning, they might make it in or they might get shut out.

I've just about come to the conclusion that Calipari is little better than a slick used car salesman. It took a once-in-a-lifetime player to get us a Title on his watch.
Well, Anthony Davis ain't walkin thru that door.

And I don't want to hear about all the Elite 8's and a few Final Fours. With the level of talent he has had, there's no excuse. It's his terrible offensive philosophy that has kept UK from hanging more banners. How many years has it been since we ran a damned play? I'm tired of this one-on-one bullshyt.
'Players first' my ass. The program is bigger and better than this!

I am really confused about the state of KY basketball right now!
How do we really know Cal’s best years aren’t behind him?
I remember hearing how Tubby won over 20 games every year!
With Cal we hear how he’s won more games than anyone over the past 10 years!

We have definitely been in a downward trend since 2015 and it doesn’t look to change this year!
I don’t know what to think anymore!

Every loss like this gets him a little closer to leaving I would imagine. It's one thing to lose to a marquee program, it's quite another to take embarrassing losses against nobodies. If these kind of losses continue to pile up he's going to get an itch to move on because he's just not going to want to deal with it.

I"m not saying it's a good or bad thing, I'm just saying. Tonight, Evansville, Auburn and Kansas ****ing State with a FF on the line. These do more damage than the FF losses in 14 and 15. Hope I'm wrong and eventually lights the fire we need to hang 9 but I'm not seeing it right now.

“Plenty of teams” red hot auburn team and a Kansas state win Solely lost because PJ couldn’t hit half of his free throws and a Evansville loss in November Jesus Christ chill out

Im not ready to bail, far from it.

But everyone is open to criticism in a well run organization.. and Cal has some things to work on, and they continue to become more apparent every year.

Recruit basketball players, get an offensive minded coach if you can't do it, stop holding players out too long with fouls, use Timeouts more.

Whats slightly alarming, he's not making the changes. Hes starting to show signs of not being the fluid type of coach that he was just 5 years ago. Were talking about the same problems over and over.

I believe Cal has 2 chances to get UK back to being a dominant team next season .
1. Get Kuminga
2. Get Banchero
Anything else plays out same as these last 3 years.

I tend to agree. Been that way since 2015. Once Calipari stopped getting uber talent, it started falling apart.
And it was on display for the rest of the recruiting world to see and use against us. If you're an elite player, where you KNOW you're going to get drafted no matter where you go, then do you:

(a) go to team log-jamned with elite talent and fight for playing time, and know that you're still not likely to even make the Final Four or

(b) go to a lesser program and get more playing time and be the face of that program, and have just as good a chance at making a Final Four?

leave it to RR to come up with this drivel. I mean do people not realize literally the worst case if we lose in the elite 8 and best case we win the title this season. But people are so short sided . Cal will be here another 10-15 years win 1-2 more titles and make 5-6 final 4's. Also don't dare lump this loss in with the loss earlier . We lost tonight to a team who will be a 7-10 seed in the dance . A bad loss but one that happens to every program every year. Now the loss a month ago those happen once every 10 years . Hell Duke had 2 of them in 3 years when it mattered in the dance to Mercer and Lehigh. It happens. Just not often. Tonight's loss is like losing to UGA or LSU this season ( a team who will be a 7-10 seed or so ) . I get it it sucks but when we beat UL and OSU ( which we will ) it will seem less important. But say dumb stuff tonight its fine we all vent in our own way .

Not happy with the way we're playing but right now no one else is good enough to coach UK.
Kentucky will always get good recruits.

We just need someone who actually coaches.

I think so too.

And even if we do get one, there’s still quite a logjam.

The latter. For sure.

I would say...lets wait and see how this team comes together in early February. I know that sucks but lets wait and see what happens. The thing that always drives me nuts is all the hype about next years recruits or the one after that. Until they hit the floor they haven't done squat. Anyway, this team needs to get to work.
