I guess the flipside to this tho is among Top 20 Kenpom teams, only Alabama has a worse defense. But their offense is currently 1 and by some margin to help make up for that.

Zone defense is garbage in modern basketball. Even Syracuse, under their Boeheim-deciple coach, doesn't play zone anymore.

It's so easy to pick apart and offers too much space for shooters.

They play zone defense a small percentage of the time in the NBA, and the reason they don't play it more is because of the defensive 3 second call, which they do not have in the college rules.
