Any thoughts on slowing down Vol offense

Zone to take away deep balls. Come up and tackle. Make them snap it over and over. Can't have someone pull a dort and be scared to hit, giving up easy tds on rac.

I don't think we'll win but I do think we'll show teams how to counter the UT offense.
After destroying LSU and torching Bama, why do you think Kentucky will expose our offense when nobody else has been able to?

Brad White and Matt House are two of the best defensive coordinators ever at UK. Coach White's defense couldn't stop them last year and Coach House (LSU) couldn't stop them this year. Can Cats effectively gameplan or does it boil down to matchups? I'm hoping those of you who have football knowledge can give me reasons to think it can be done.
Just wish/hope they had/have to worry about slowing down ours!!!

A 3 point win set up by a bogus PI call is "torching Bama?" All righty then.
I hate the balls as much as any but if you look at the replay of that call the defender had his left arm wrapped all the way around the receiver. When I first saw it I thought it was BS but it was not

I thought it was a bs call also… if you look at the replay, the Alabama defender has his left arm draped all the way around the UT player. Just being real it was a good call.

Stoops needs to go full blown "Hal Mummy" on Saturday.

Surprise the crap out of UT. They come in expecting Mr. Conservative to try and slow the game down to limit their possessions......and whammo!!!

Hit em with fake punts on 4th down.
Throw 70 yard bombs out of your own end zone on every down you have.
Get the ball with 15 seconds in the half, throw 4 straight hail Marys in the endzone.
Have a db or lb "cramp up" on every UT first down and 3rd down to sub in players.
Get the crowd all riled up like Lane Kiffen.
Have them cussing and throwing crap by halftime.
Late hit their QB on every pass play. (You know they are going to blast WL with no penalties.)

Bring your ugliest old mangy cur dog to hump Old Smokie at mid field.
Ask their sister to marry you instead.
Streak through the Power T ahead of the Vols.

We can win this thing IF we play by THEIR rules.

Feel free to add any other creative ideas you might have that will pi$$ them all off.

Go Big Blue!!!
Make it a day to remember
Geez. I wasn't that scared until I read some of the things we will have to do to beat them.

Miss State is the only true passing offense UK has faced this year. Tennessee gets more yards with less attempts and runs with tempo at various paces.

Tennessee hasn't been perfect, but they've hit their stride the last 3 games. Stopping them completely is such an improbable thing. Out scoring them might be the best bet. Similar to last year, 40 minimum. Might take 50.

The key is to get a strong solid hit on hooker early. If we do that it will all fall into place.

Look, no BS - this is one of the better offenses in CFB in the last decade. It is what it is.

we actually do have the right scheme for this but you HAVE to make open field tackles. Give up the short stuff and tackle. Wait for the mistake, even if it’s just a bad throw on 3rd down and force a punt. You cannot let them beat you deep. QB spy on 50% of the plays - that will actually be more important than sacks.

and you will need luck, 2 or more turnovers. And we will need to grind it out on the ground, 6, 7 yard carries (their rush defense is inflated by teams being forced to throw). And we have to capitalize every time in the red zone.

be physical. Take the fight to them. Maximize potential. That’s the path to winning.

You have win one on one battles. And making plays it key moments. It’s really that simple. More importantly then the D we have to put up points. Tennessee is going to score. Levis and the Oline have to take advantage of a terrible pass defense

We blitz about 7% of the time. I wouldn't expect that to change too much. Rushing with 3 down lineman and bringing a 4th rusher from the LB pos is not a blitz, but simulates one because the offense doesn't know where the 4th rusher is coming from. Expect to see that a lot, just as you did against MSU.
This .

With all due respect, I think this is a complete mismatch. Have you looked at their receivers and they haven’t even had the best receiver in CF play…. Tillman is coming back for us..
Their pass defense sucks out the behind, but they are very good against the run, and have more than their share of sacks. Pray

i mean what other strategy would you employ? You can’t go man. Only other option is blitz like crazy and hope for the best, would you rather do that?

That. .. BLITZ Is what ex Vol all American Tim Irwin said in Knoxville radio this am , according to my UT brother in law.

Kentucky would have to do a lot of things like stop a double digit streak of 30+ points scored a game, neutralize a good pass rush with a bad OL, stop multiple WRs who have all had great games at one point or another and stop an offense that is 100% in the RZ and leads the country in RZ TDs. LSU thru 7 games in 2019. 351 points. Tennessee thru 7 games in 2019. 351 points.

The only way to slow down the Vols is to not go on 3 n outs on offense. Long drives that eat the clock.

Blitzing them is exactly what they're hoping for. They eat that alive just like MSU. We need to get pressure but it can't be something that brings us out of zone. Our simulated pressure is great but tougher to disguise at their pace

MSU did virtually zippo v UK.

MSU did virtually zippo v UK.

Exactly. Because we played zone and used simulated pressure. We need the same approach although the simulated pressure will be tougher to disguise due to pace.

UT does make it a bit tougher with their exaggerated wr splits and their lateral attack. This year, we have the DBS to counter with setting edges and making tackles.

Mississippi State torched us last year and we adjusted and played well last week. I can see scenarios in which we play 6 or 7 defensive backs and keep everything in front and make them have to nickel and dime us and nothing over the top. The next step is a big dose of CRod and keep the offense off the field. I think we will have a scheme that will be different from last year and we have to be careful not to get caught with bad personnel and not being able to sub in their hurry up offense. I have a feeling we say see some of our players come down with cramps on Saturday night. ;)

At least we had a warm up with the same no huddle on the road v a top 15 team at Ole Miss.
That could prove very beneficial Sat nite as during the bye I guarantee you Stoops and Co. along w/players studied the Ole Miss film ad naseum.

We played them the same all 3 years. They torched us last year because of personnel. We had a db that had zero interest in tackling and we were without Jordan wright which caused confusion amongst linebackers letting their RBs get about 7 yards per dump off.

Dort cost us the UT game and helped cost us the MSU game. At the same time part of that blame is on the staff who kept trotting him out there even after watching him run from contact over and over.

Do what we have been doing all season.
UK #16 in passing yards allowed.
UK #15 in total defense.

UT loves to throw the football; UK limits passing yds. Just ask Will “Buck” Rogers of Miss. St.

FYI, Hendon Hooker's highest Passer Rating of the season in any game last year was against Kentucky. And he's better this year.

You have to limit their possessions.
1. If Stoops wins the toss he has to take the ball. Letting g them have the ball first is just pain stupid.
2. CRod, Crod, Crod! Give the man the rock. He needs 25 carries. UT does not have a good defense. Run the ball and eat the clock. Hopefully, UT will get impatient on offense.
3. Gotta handle the crowd. We can't have presnap penalties.
4. Win the first qtr. UT likes to start fast and quick. Limiting them in the 1st qtr is huge
